  1. Have you checked the web to see if you can actualy hire boats in Pt Stephens ??

I get up there several times a year & cannot recall seeing boats for hire or hire boats on the water.

Could be wrong , but check it out.

If you end up land based , try the retaining wall at the marina , always seems to do well or just inside Tomaree headland.

A walk along the Nelson Day beach can produce whiting .

There is also another retaining wall at the Soldiers Point ramp , again , worth a try

  2. What do poeple think is the best way to keep your catch. I have been using a keeper bag over the side but someone has suggested that a tub of water on the boat or an esky with ice slurry are better. What do you guys do?

Lasty Like the other guys , on ice or in a slurry. Keeper bags can be more trouble than they are worth.

Tying the bag off the side , getting the fish in the bag , then remembering to bring it in when motoring along.

If coming home & a long trip the bag can end up lying on the floor in the sun.

Bags have also been known to come untied & drift off into the depths :mad3:

  3. Motyman & I are keen to get out for a fish on Saturday. It has been several months since our last outing so a session is well overdue.

Due to the weather we have narrowed it down to CC Bridge or the Moons.

Final decission this afternoon , not keen on getting a wet arse

  4. if you run it for 1-2 minutes thats fine. it doesn't take very long for the fresh water to flush the salt water out of your engine. do a test your self, taste the water which is exiting out of your tell tale after 30 seconds of flushing. see if you can still taste the salt water.

I guess it depends on the engin but on some , if not most , the tell tail is exactly that , a visual indicator that water is going to the motor not that the salt is washed out. To test this , if the TT is always cold then it is coming off the inlet side not after going through the motor.

Also, full flushing does not occur until the thermosate opens , approx 3 - 4 min again depending on the motor.

For mine a 70hp Yammie 2s the way to know if fully flushed is when water appears from the upper exaust ports & that water is warm & contains no salt

  5. What sections of the Hawhesbury River gets results at this time of the year.

There are a few videos / DVD available on fishing the Hawksbury. Check out your local tackle store.

The one I found interesting was made several years ago by Bruce Schumacher.

Also there is a guy , John from Barr Point who reports on Hi Tide each Saturday. He is normally on between 4.30 am & 5.30am

The reports appear genuine , if good he identifies the spots , if the fishing is crap , he will say so (stay in bed)

    Hope this helps

  6. Thats exactly right kingpig.....

    Sorry guys , wrong !!!!!!!

I'm with Grantm on this one. Never start the motor with out water being supplied to the pump. Even cranking it over is questionable

And yes , the impellar is rotating be it in gear or not

  7. Helping my son in law with some concreting on Saturday.

    Sunday , to be decided

Billycarts. The drive way at my parents house is rather steep & sweeps around to a flat section. We would run rubber wheels on the front & ball racers on the rear which was a chalenge to control the rear. :1yikes:

We had our fair share of spinouts. The trick was not to fall over the edge of the drive into the garden which was 1.5 mt below.

Arrr , the memories of years gone by :yahoo::thumbup:

  9. Hi guys

Just want to see if anyone can help me out. I have never gone fishing for yellowfin, but have read a bit about it.

I have always thought that the best way to catch them was to troll for them with lures, although i have noticed in the last few reports that people have been cubing for them. I have no idea what cubing is and what it involves. Could someone please explain the process

    regards

    franco

Franco Cubing is basically cutting up pillies or other small fish , slimies , yakka etc & laying a burly trail

There ae several baits / rigs , the most common is to have 1 or 2 live yakka swimming around or near the burley trail

  10. Unfortunate experience. I purchased my 4.6 Webster from IO in Nov 2003. The service before , during & after the sale was excellent so rather suprised to read your post.

There was a post here a few weeks back on obtaining outboard service in the Blacktown area. All spoke very highly of IO

In respect to the 5.2 , these are not a common boat & unlike the "off the shelf " or "just add water " Quinnie etc are only made to customer order so unless a dealer , be that IO or any other dealer has a boat arrive just befor the show then there is nothing to display.

Any way , they are still a great boat & very pleasd with my purchase

    Regards

  11. Four days off for me but the weather is looking crap over the weekend.

Had planned on a Parra session tomorrow but I don't think I'll bother.

My birthday on Sunday so  , and going to a joint BBQ/B'day party on Saturday night so...

    Cheers

    David.

    :1happybday: Another year closer to 40 :1yikes::1yikes:

  12. looking for some feedback on the cats, has anyone owned or used one.

looking to use mainly in botany bay and some short trips outside

    fanks

Mottyman (David) has prety well covered the key points.

They say "a picture is worth a thousand words". Check out this web site , in particular demo video No. 6 & 7.

    http://www.inverlochmarine.com.au/webster/...ebster_demo.htm

The only down side which is inherant with most cat's is the flat , vertical sides , in particular at the front .

When traveling side on or at an angle to a choppy sea there is a fair amount of spray.

With the canopy / side curtins in place it does not realy matter.

When all is considered , this is very minor to the overall performance.

The bigest trap most fall into is under powering the boat. This is a seperate subject & best discussed if / when you decide to proceed with a purchase.

  13. During a visit to P.S I checked out the status on the planned M.P.

The story is , submissions were due to clase at the end of August. Aparently this has been extended to the end of Sept.

Goverment will consider & perhaps make changes to the various zones.

Considering the election is early next year , the local member is Labor & the high opposition to the park by residents & visitors , my gut feel suggest it will be shelved until after the election

Until then , fishing as usual

  14. Headed off to P.S last week with a few mates. Arrived on Wednesday after a wet trip for most of the 200km. First site of the bay did not improve the situation with white caps a plenty.

Thursday , 25 / 30 knot westerley blowing into a 2 - 3 mt N/E swell. The wind settled in the afternoon & we fished around the heads for 8 throw back reds

Friday , Wind had moved around to the S/E but the swell was still pounding in. Fished the island 5 km due East of the heads. There were heaps of fish but with the exception of 1 Mowong , all throw backs

The westerly returned overnight & wiped out Saturday & Sunday.

Not to worry , we suplemented the R & R time with other things inc :beersmile::beersmile:

Trip home was "interesting" , normally aroung 2.5 hours. This one , 4.25 hours. Traffic accident near Berowra so I & many hundreds other vehicals were at a stand still just South of the Hawksbury bridge for an hour or so while they cleared it up

Two other items of interest , The main boat ramp at Little Beach has lots of sand covering the lower part making retreival in a 2WD car a challange. Hopefully the council will give it a clean down.

For the latest on the Marine Park , see my post in Fisheries News & Politics

  15. Marco Welcome to the site. :1welcomeani:

As others have said , Narooma is a very dangerous spot & best avoided  unless you want to fish the back lakes whick can be productive at times

Agree with Swordfifherman on Bermi. Great spot. If you want to head a further 40min south try Tarthra

Check out the "Pinned" Boat ramp post in the Boating forum . There is information on both Bermi & Tarthra

  16. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to avoid losing tackle? I even tried a flurocarbon dropper, hoping that it would be harder to see in the water. I thought this was working as all the other lines were being bitten off, but then I lost 2 so that obviously doesn't work..... damm pests......

I tend to find they will hit any thing that is shiney (swivels) or has a remote resemblence to food , ie sinkers.

Have had good sucess with double black traces.

They come in a packet , approx 8" / 10" long with a black swivel at one end & a snap swivel at the other.

Tie your line to the swivel , at the snap end ,connect a sinker , I use the bomb type with a swivel fitted to the top , easy to add or change.

Also fit the swivel of the second trace.

On the bottom of the second trace fit a hook to the snap swivel

    Hope this helps
