I used dead yellow tail as bait which probably hook up the fish at the bottom.
I have fighting with the fish for 8-9mins alone, and the fella said he want to help me to wind the fish so l hand in my rod to him.
After that, the drag was setting like 5-6kg, so I want to help him to support the rod too.
You could be right about a big stingy ray mate, Even a big port jackson shark or sumthing.
Looks like fun!

talk about kaos! why so many people on the one rod?
What bait and rig where u using? That will give us a better idea of what u may have hooked.

Hi guys,
Weather permitting, ill be fishing the Georges on saturday by boat with my uncle and his friend on his boat. We will be launching at the national park, so i was just wondering if theres any general areas that produce good fish that are not too far from the ramp.
Cheers Matt
Hi Matt,
If you want to fish the Georges River on the weekend you could have a hard time. Get on the water as early as you can and pack up by 10am. This is the time all the clowns have had their beauty sleep and have their jet ski's, ski boats and wake boards on the river. Unless its rainy, most of them are scared of getting wet so you will have most of the river to yourself.
Having said that the area you want to fish close to that ramp is a washing machine at the best of times during the warmer months.
If I was going saturday morning i would fish towards Connells point, Oatley area, or Towra point on the high.
Otherwise if your set on fishing that that section of the river try Cattle Duffers at the end of the National Park stretch, or Mickey's point. Small black crabs are dynamite for BIG bream there. Blades are good on the bream but it can be snaggy seomtimes.
Good Luck mate let us know how u go.

Well done man what a happy ending, shame it had to be so diffucult in the process.
Ive seen MANY people with 2 arms and 2 legs who shouldnt be allowed anywhere near any kind of machine, car, boat etc..
U my friend have done well! Im happy for you

Hello Raiders,
Just wanted to get an opinion on a decent depth sounder i can wack on the kayak. Being my 2nd mode of fishing platform im not after the best of the best but something reasonably priced which will do the job well for a few years. Any opinions?
I generally run Furuno gear off the boat but i really like the modern Lowrance products too.
I dont want to spend more than $400 since its only going on the yak (which i bought to be active moreso than to seriously fish)
Not too fussed about colour or not...
On another note... how many of u folks actually see fish on the sounder in turbid estuary waters such as the Georges or Hawkesbury? I can get decent arches when i find kings in clear water near or past the heads, but i gave up years ago trying to consistently locate fish on my sounders in the rivers... I either pick up heaps of clutter, or nothing.
Anyhow, all opinions appreciated.

Just wandering if anyone has used the maria pencils. They are the first pencils that i have bought
that have a split ring on them.Wanted to know how they affect the performance walking the dog ?
Other than that they look the goods.55mm in length and weighing in at 5gms.Should be great on the flats.
Be interesting to see how they stack up against the nw pencils, jazzs and baby rovers. They say they cast like
a bullet and with the weight they should be right.
cheers.....Roy
I havnt tried them yet although since u mentioned it i think ur right, i dont remember any of my pencils having split rings on them. But i would say that good lure manufacturers test their lures, be it in tanks or whatever. Im confident that if it comes with a split ring its been designed with one in mind or at the very least isnt negatively affected by it. Incidently i recently bought a stack of hard body lures from a good lure fisherman...
I dont know his styles and have not fished with him but i did notice on alot of the lures he had removed the split rings, and for the jacakll chubbies at least i found it to be a bad thing as their action wasnt perfect and tended to swim off to one side rather than dead straight. The weight of a split ring compared to the overall lure would be very minor so i'd be suprised if it affects it, but would be interesting to see the comparison. Maybe have a flick with and without and report back to us?

Thats an awesome bream mate!
Any bream over about 38cm is excellent in my opinion and on light gear great fun!
Top little session u had, well done.
A LOT of time on the water is comming up for me i reckon!

Shame it was quiet mate, was also very quiet in Tuggerah Lake yesterday and last night, got some whiting but no bream, usually we get a feed of them.
Full moons just past hasnt it? In my experience fishing during or straight after a full moon and im almost always wasting my time.

Hi fellow raiders, Ive just purchased a small boat and i wanted to go to Towra Point to try and get some bream, flatties, or trevally, because Im new to boat fishing i was hoping if anyone could pm me where abouts in Towra Point are the fish, ur spot well be keeped secret i promise. I would like to put a fishing report soon as Ive been browsing and not inputing for to long now. well be heading out this friday arvo if the weather is good, and what are the best sea sick tablets i can buy, just in case.
1st of all mate if ur gonna get sea sick at towra point u maybe should have thought twice about the boat purchase! ha ha ha
Having said that, congratulations and may she bring to u many joyous and safe outdoor moments as mine has done for me over the years.
A word of warning, if a southerly pumps through it can get messy in a small boat from towra back to captain cook bridge and sumtimes beyond, so watch the weather and as a rule fish it early morning and head back by about 10-11am for most days.
As for spots... mate the whole of towra and its surrounds is pretty much the same. 1-4m deep, patchy weed and sand. Fishing towra is alot like a lucky dip. U know what ur most likely gonna get (flathead) but u never really know what could come next! (kings, flounder, long tom, salmon, trevs, bream, anything really)...
Just get out there and give it a go! Thats what fishing is all about mate.

two blackfish took same lure
Its not uncommon mate. Ive had them take blades, small hardbody minnows, and plastics up to 100mm!!!
Maybe they can be territorial who knows

Just aswell it was released, ive kept one many years ago close to that size and it tasted like CRAP! I learnt that lesson the hard way.
Great fish mate! At that size they can crunch trebles and jig heads without even trying!

The best baits ive found to be off those rocks are by far squirt worms which u can pump from the river. Also small black crabs will catch BIG bream if u leave them there long enough and not cop a snag. Live poddy mullet will get u in with a good chance at a jew but may be a mission carrying them in. It can be quite snaggy there unfortunatley.
Always good fun just to be out though.

Hey Raiders,
Was thinking of stopping there for a quick fish / squidding on my way to friends wedding in Shellharbour..
Last time i was there (May 2010 i think), it was closed due to issues with electical cables. Have they re-opened the gates yet?
Cheers!
Are u reffering to Outter Harbour breakwall? This was the one they were excavating a trench to install high voltage cables for.
I was there maybe 6 months ago and it was still locked up coz they are forming more blocks to tip over the side.
Inner harbour breakwall on the coal terminal side is open as far as im aware.

I think alarms, insurance, keeping a keen eye out for each other and most of all keep the boat in the backyard or garage, or behind big gates where possible are the best detterents.
Ive seen people parked at ramps with a padlock the size you would find on an overseas suitcase locking the trailer hitch to the car, and the amount of unsecured boats and trailers in the streets and peoples front lawns is simply an open invitation to these scumbags.
We cant afford to be complacent because we only get one chance, Im yet to hear of boats being recovered and given back to their rightfull owners.
