  1. I had enough of those Bell type lights, so I have decided to buy the NARVA subermissble lights. This is what it looks like.

Excuse the photo, I was still testing at the time :)

Did exactly the same close to this time last year and havnt had a single issue with them since. My sparky mate helped me and used this waterproof heat shrink with inbuilt sealant over all connections which solidifies after its shrunk and it still amazes me how well they actually stay water proof. Its a good feeling know that your electrics is wired up well and wont "not" come on the next time u use them.

  2. Im sorry about the loss of your boat mate. That would have to be one of the worst feelings. Here is another positive from the situation. Your frustration caused you to write some very descriptive and amusing comments and brightened up my morning!

I really do hope u get ur boat back and i hope the scum who took it suffer in major ways.

I will keep an eye out, Goodluck.

  3. thanks all for the heads up as you guys save many of us burning up fuel for not a lot of action . Hopefully a raider got that marlin . Hope to see it pick up for the holidays though !!!!!. See you out there .

Mate that post was from 3 weeks ago, keep in mind ALOT can change on the offshore scene within a few days or even a few km's let alone 3 weeks.

I wouldnt hesitate to have a crack right now. I have mates who have got into some dollies.

    Goodluck mate!

  5. Also, just read they grow up to 60cm (but usually not more than 40cm) and the one I caught would be easy over 60cm!

So i may have caught the IGFA world record numbfish and not even known it!

Its high voltage but low amps so will give u a good belt but not life threatening. Also, interstingly the voltage level drops with each time it sends out a shock and im not sure when its fully charged again! lol i know it all sounds stupid but i read information about it years ago after seeing a "throw anything u catch into your bucket" bloke fishing balmoral warf years ago.

As ugly as they are they are very interesting and ive caught a couple fouled hooked while fishing in botnay bay with plastics.

Never known anyone to actually cop the zap though. Good to hear u wernt a victim!

Fish arnt immortal and at that size/age surley nearing the end of its lifespan. Its more of a shame to see fish in there prime breeding size be lost. Entire commercial industry can kill thousands of tonnes of fish but this bloke gets crucified for a once in a lifetime catch

Great catch i say well done to the bloke!!! I hope he enjoyed the experience and has his memories or mould etc for life, alternatively i hope he enjoys his next 76 dinners! LOL

  7. Hi, I was just wondering do you guys soak your carpet with a hose when you get home, or just give it a light mist over.

Hose it down with the garden hose and nozzle for a bit of pressure, fully saturate it if you want to, its mate for that. Under that it will be marine ply if built right and thats also made for that! My boats never been kept undercover, sitting in the backyard for the past 6 years and the flooring looks and feels the way it did when i bought it.

I recently thought about checker plating the floor the make it lighter and look better but basically cant be bothered! LOL

Ive got checker plate tool boxes on my ute they are 6 years old now and still almost as shiney as they were brand new so possibly could depend of the grade or supplier of the aluminium? Just a thought.

  9. Hey guys I've been fishing out in the morning from about 5am in the harbour landbased and whenever I use my metal lures they just seem to chase it but just dont bite it. I would really like to catch one of these using lures and I've also been using soft plastics and various metal lures 30~50g. It was exciting see them chase my lure but now its just really teasing. Any help/tips will be appreciated thanks

Ahh yes, one of the major frustrations caused by kingies. Mate kingies are a funny lot, they have the ability to be ravenous predators that will attack anything that moves at times, and can be timid as mouse at other times. They are very inquisitive fish so quite often they will follow your lures but never actually touch them. I've had live squid out under their noses and they follow it around and dont touch it, same with yakkas, other times they will eat a piece of chicken on the bottom intended for bream!

Sometimes its a case of changing lures, colours, retrieve etc to get a strike, other times u can spin all day off the rocks and watch meter plus kings chase ur lures in only to swerve away at the last moment and its VERY frustrating.

Mix it up, thats all i can suggest. Eventually they will have a go...

  10. That was the responce I got from a friend, when I sent him this photo this morning.

    50cm COBIA........

Of the beach in Brighton, Botany Bay in 2 mtrs of water, on a 3" Gulp minnow.

Mate, thats awesome! I saw a guy get a spangled emperor looking thing off Balmoral warf recently i had the same reaction as your mate!

Just about anything is possible these days isnt it. Stopping the commercial fishing aswell as cleaner water ways is the best thing ever to happen.

    well done!

  11. just a quick question,

i have a 2003 tohatsu tldi 50hp outboard on my boat.

a few months back i realised that when my boat was in neutral or on very low idle, the water stream was not continious and was dribbeling, causing the motor to run hotter than normal, causing the heating alarm to go off, but once i manually raise the idle leaver in neutural or when i put the motor into gear and drive at revs higher than idle, the water stream coming out of the motor is continious and strong.

after a few outings, this stopped happening and in idle the water would come out continiously, untill this weekend, same thing started happening, in neutural dribble dribble, but when driving and revs up, the water would come out with no issues.

is this an sign that the impellor needs changing?

    thanks in advance!

I have the same thing happen with my Mercury. I dont know about yours but on my Merc thats what is MEANT to happen. The motor is water cooled WITH thermostat so on idle it only ever dribbles. When flushing it spits out tiny amounts then at regular intervals it shoots out a solid constant stream for about 10-25 seconds until the motor reaches its optimum operating temp again.

When running at full revs it will always have a constant stream because its constantly needing to be cooled. I have been told some Mercury and Tohatsu models are the exact same motors so it could be doing what its meant to do.

Huey will know for sure and he can help you.

  12. hi i have been given some xd 100 oil .can i use it in premixed oil fuel to run in a 25 hp merc. cheers pappy

Mate, nevermind the fact that u've got some free oil and want to use it. If its a 2 stroke merc do urself and ur engine a favour, Turf that XD100 and get a bottle of Quicksilver 2 cycle marine oil.

I wouldnt go using anything designed for a different type of motor in mind.

  13. hey guys

do you guys use a sinker with you lures, i tried trolling once and was going around about 5 knots with a diving lure ( the one with the lip on a angle at the front.) I had 20 pound line on aswell but discovered that the lure was bouncing along the surface. Can someone please give any tips on rigging up a rod for trolling.

    Cheers

Bounching along the surface u say?

    It it an El-Cheapo?

Or maybe your rod was too long. I find when i use shallow divers off longer rods they dive only to come back up and do what ur saying. You can bring ur line back down and hitch it to ur bail arm with an elastic band that helps to keep the angle down low.

  14. I am really getting into high speed spinning off the rocks and am normally a shimano man but have seen okuma epix and epix pro for a lot cheaper than shimano reels...has anyone got any reviews? Kind of on a bit of a budget and the okuma is about $100 cheaper than a stradic

    Cheers Leo

By far my favourite spinning reel for high speed off the rocks is my Shimano Speedmaster TSS-4. Old skool high speed spinning reel, graphite body, built to be belted around on the rocks and cop some hard treatment although its old technology, it holds sentimental value. I have also done alot of spinning with an Okuma Epix 60, which has a ratio of around 6.1:1 from memory although that did its quota of 70 million revolutions and caught hundreds on bonito, kings, salmon and other assortments so thats since retired also.

For current models its hard to go past the Daiwa Saltist 4500 for build quality, durability and value for money.

Have you thought about going overhead? If so the new Shimano Trinidad models are AWESOME reels and if i did as much spinning off the rocks as i used to do when i was land based i would definetly look into that investment. Ive watched other guys use them and they cast 80 gram metals for miles, way further than i was getting with my spin gear.
