  1. Cheers Ray, What makes you say that?
  2. Can you believe it, i was about to go beach fishing this afternoon. 30 knot southerly winds falling tide arrival on 1 hour of sun left 15 degree temp But even all that, i still wanted to flick a worm into the huge surf. Had to stop myself and i dont know why. How depressing! Anyone else thought about fishing on the beach or rocks this afternoon?
  3. Im itching to get my line tight! I read a really old article somewhere about someone doing classes for $60 5 years ago. Mate! Would love to learn how to fish these areas.
  4. Does any one run classes for land based fishing in Botany bay or the Eastern suburbs? Looking to learn where, how, and when to fish. Do not mind learning in a class. Is <$100 reasonable?
  5. On the weekend saw some guys using a spoon with a really (like 50cm) long handle to throw their berley out to the water. Where can i get one of these? Never seen them anywhere sold.
  6. I'm using 20lb braid. Lost a fish on the weekend and was devastated - not that it was a huge fish, but because it was just a decent catch and my knot failed. Used a centauri knot. For my mono leader i usually use a palomar knot to the hook and to the swivel. Then what knots should i use to tie my braid to swivel?
  7. Fish + Rod + Reel = Winning combination. Freak buy a few lottery tickets will ya!
  8. This probably won't help, but i just think.. "if i got a parking fine, that'd be about $100... NOW, let's suppose that out of sheer fate, the moon and stars aligned and i didn't get fined, i'll have $100 more than i didn't have!!! (this is where i start thinking, i really do have a free $100).. now that money could be used to buy [iNSERT FISHING ITEM NAME HERE]... then i say, man i am lucky!" Then i walk out with that new gear that i wasn't supposed to buy and park just a tiny little safer for the next few weeks. HEHE
  9. JUSTIN - your a champion. Let me part with a few nuggets of info which might save you some head and heart aches. - As the other fisho's said, you have to use your index finger to guide it onto the reel. - Especially at night time, be careful not to guide it too far to the handle side, otherwise you'll get a nice ball of line off the reel! - To avoid line twist the dvd says use two swivels, i found it 'could' of helped, but the best way is to now and then when you retrieve, guide the line using both your index finger and thumb, hopefully this will push all the twist out. If all this index finger and thumb work starts rubbing ur skin up, use elastoplast u can get at the local chemist and tape up your fingers. My friend uses a golf glove if u want to do that too. After all this is managed, i find casting with the alvey has so much potential, as the spool diameter is so large and line just drifts off it. I never reached it but! Cheers mate
  10. I had a talk to a guy at a tackle store and he said the best way to connect your rod together is to do a twist at the end to make it real tight. He mentioned that just pushing them straight together might get them wedged too tight and it'll be very hard to get them apart and then you'd have to use rubber gloves. And then to take them off you twist it off too. I heard both sides of the story, someone else said 'straight on - no twist' and I guess I will hear both stories here too. My question is for each way you believe you put your rod together, why do you do it that way?
  11. Sorry for no pic post! I did it!! i cut it off to stop the crack from travelling down the rod. The crack was on the smaller bit which was the lower half of the rod. The upper half is the bigger peice. I did sand it down a little and so far it's worked for me. The crack won't be able to travel down the rod anymore if i connect the peices together. I sware it i did not step on it. The only thing my local tackle fisho could think was if i put it on too tight. Don't know how it happened, and I did not step on it! WIERD. I think in my case it was the best thing to do and it worked! Really appreciate your words forliano & Roberta!
  12. Now thats what u call off the hook!!! mind the pun
  13. I know of people who are good at photoshop..........................................................
  14. Hi Guys, Where can i catch bream in coffs harbour? What time should i go and what bait should i try? Real keen to get a line in this weekend!
  15. WANNAFISH, how heavy is the rod compared to your saltiga surf? Thanks for the post. Your friend is a high roller! Thats over $1000 of gear he's probably got LOL
  16. Yeah i'll take a photo of it asap. My normal camera can't do macro, what a bummer. I was thinking maybe i should cut it off to stop the crack from continuing?
  17. http://www.daiwafishing.com.au/daiwa.cfm?p...oduct=moonraker Has anyone had any experience with this beast? Any experiences or knowledge to share? Or even alternatives to this specialist beach fishing rod?
  18. Hi Guys, I have a Snyderglas rod and at the join section on the bottom peice there is a tiny 1cm crack running down the rod. Pretty dissapointed as i only bought it this year and I haven't given it a good workout as yet. Is this something i should worry about? What should i do?
  19. My mate's belief is he rigs them backwards as tailor and salmon off the beach will take the bait easier head first. Any truth in that? Juzza: Salmon / Tailor.
  20. When rigging pillies is it better to rig them to swim head first or tail first when you retrieve? Does it matter if you are ganging or snelling or single hooking?
  21. slinky, re using the same thickness, will i get any casting advantages if i use lower diameter braid? i prefer to try and cast as far as possible, in case the school is out further. no mono, yes spining wheel, cheers. why not an alvey? i assume line twist? new question!! 1) how much should i be paying for 300m? 2) what knots are recommended for swivels and hooks? 3) any tips if i want to snell with braid? or is it just the same as mono?
  22. I'm looking for some good line for my 12ft 8w beach rod. I'm looking at some braid or superline because i want to have something low stretch so i can feel the nibbles on the bait. I'm going after salmon and tailor off the beach. Recomendations?
  23. Great photos. Don't recognise which part of the rock platform that they are from but! O_O
  24. Caught this off sydney, have no idea what it was. Too scared to bring it home. haha
