  1. Like you squidmaks Ive been looking at replacing my floor for some time now, I am moving away from the thought of alloy as I dont want to weld it down if I screw it down I think the alloy sheet will wear allowing the screws to come loose over time as will the plastic options so Im now starting to think maybe they use ply for other reasond other then just cost cutting.
  2. Waiting to see the reply on this one, My floor is starting to go aswell. Mine is 6m alloy with carpet over ply flooring.
  3. the white centre of that hatch looks as though it would come out if not it would be a case of removing the black section & replacing it when install was complete
  4. attached? surely theres some access what about adding a storage compartment if you dont have one already (see attached)
  5. Mate its only 6K even with your tinny Im sure would have learned that money doesn't go far with boats, buying a boat without seeing it, that would concern me its a big gamble but being an older boat lets hope the age is its only downfall. I would suggest taking some tools and replacing the wheel bearings before dragging it all that way home or try to get the shop to do it but best while your there so you know it gets done properly & not just leaned around the outside, if neither of them insure it with club marine they provide road service with there insurance so that your not leaving your new boat parked on the road side. IM with jgrant on the alloy as long as it has been looked after will be fine, electrical in the boat is not a problem (easy repair) electrical and/or anything else under the motor cowling thats where you dont want trouble it can be very costly. I have a lot of faith in the old Johnson's I think it looks pretty good When will we see you up the Hawksbury?
  6. I read on an american forum that the larger Tohatsu models are actually Honda's with a different paint colour - not sure about the electrical or any of the technical side of them though. Looking at the Tohatsu web site 75HP up all look like Honda. http://www.tohatsu.com.au/outboardengines/4stroke
  7. I have had my Garmin GPSmap751xs since 2013. similar to the above Ive looked at 1KW but not purchased as yet - Why I chose Garmin over the other brands, when I purchased mine I compared what add ons & options were available & the price of the add ons & the Garmin was best value. If I had to buy a unit now I wouldn't even look at the other brands Im so happy with the unit I have. Brett
  8. you do have the second option of mounting the transducer inside the hull being a glass boat though you do lose the water temp option. As for the wiring I find itd best if you can do it your self or get some one that knows what they are doing to show you how to do it, when something goes wrong then you know how to fix it. Brett
  9. Bread may not be a part of there regular diet but neither is cheese & that's all I've heard being used for bait lately, I will be down to try my luck in December using information that I've gathered I might try a secret bait mixture & if not successful I will eat the cheese sandwich myself LOL You keep clearing them carp out, your doing us all a favour. Brett
  10. even better for alloy boat owners - after a few years the hull looses its shine, make a stencil then polish over the stencil with autosole making shiny patches resembling a light coloured fish.
  11. what kind of fishing are you planning bottom bashing, trolling or cubing?
  12. Thats the sort of info I'm chasing thanks Tyrone07 I've only heard of snapper at SWR. Now if nothing is on offer down south SWR it is, could be a bit early for kings at Jervis Bay.
  13. Hi Guys Im thinking of taking a week off work first week of October only Ive had strict instructions from the wife if I take leave I have to go away for the week not be at home. The son has exams the following week & has been studying like mad & if I stay home I will make too much noise. So I was thinking some where in NSW , Im pretty sure Murray cod season starts then but I was also thinking some where coastal South West Rocks or Eden but what fish are on the bite at that time? Any help or suggestions??? Brett
  14. I towed 1.8T of 6m boat with a 6cyl falcon wagon for 6 years (yes wagon not as bad as a ute) at first I feared the ramp but it was more the highway that was a problem, Make the ball weight as heavy as you can by moving boat forward on trailer or axle back - ball weight should be 10% of total trailer weight. This will give you aprox 150Kg on the ball to help with traction, when using the ramp look & wait for the cleanest ramp no sand & no weed etc, when pulling up the ramp go as slow as possible (much easier in auto) any sudden movement will cause a spin. Once your on the highway the problem I had & you will have with a table top the wind will go over the cabin of the car then under the front of the boat causing the front of the boat to lift ( I didnt strap my bow tight enough once could see it lifting in the mirror) Keep in mind when the front of the boat lifts you have no weight on the ball & trailer sway will happen specially when trucks are passing you. what you are doing can be done but be careful!!
  15. I suggest going to shops and playing with display models take note of how easy they are to navigate through the menus some are real brain teasers, then conceder what you are going to hook in to it & what you want it to do , down view / side view / deep water? if you are going to buy any "ad ons" then look at the price of the ad ons you may be wanting. as for talking from experience I cant help because my Garmin cost me near 2K but I love it! when I bought it my second option was the lowrance elite 7 they are really cheap now (I do wonder why). Fathers day is near catalogues are in our favour at this time of year, also check shops web sites there are some good ex-demo's on sale at the moment. Brett
  16. if I was to take you up on that what would you pay to get a lift back LOL
  17. the sweetest fish in the ocean, steamed then pour over them a light sauce made from fine chopped spring onions, soy sce & boiling water. I will give double points if you give them to me to eat :-) I think they only grow to about 25-30cm
  18. agreeing with both the above if you check your rod holders in your boat there should be similar to stop the rod from turning, in the case of plastic rod holders there are 2 small pieces of plastic in the bottom (one each side) once again for the gimble (slots in the butt ) to lock in to.
  19. I heard that mentioned on Macarthur radio today, I've never heard of it before
  20. Im with Locodave on this topic Ive got the gpsmap751 for around $1400 then upgraded transducer from chirp to the HD-ID realy impressive unit but I dont believe its got much over the 70DV for the extra $
  21. seems as though Paul Tool has a caravan but not a boat!
  22. you mean 4kt sign at Mortlake Ferry? thats a long way up stream for a whale he must have got lost.
  23. Ive been through there a couple of times Locodave in 475 & 6m boats always smooth as but I have been warned that it does get nasty.

    Etec or Not?

Probably the best reply to this kind of question Ive seen so far! Myself - I have the Honda 150 yes I wanted 4 stroke and was lucky enough to get what I believe to be the best of them all (in my opinion), My second choice was Suzuki. Im pretty sure its the variable valves on the Honda make it take off like a 2 stroke the other brands should have similar. when I purchased my boat new the dealer was trying to get me on to other motors (obviously more $ in it for him) I could have saved $8000 by having an e-teck I am so glad I turned it down. Just the smell of the 2 strokes at the boat ramp is enough for me let alone wondering where all that oil ends up, most likely in our waterways! Still its only your choice be it your decision or budget.
