  1. Yep Ive done all the above only I never got around to getting a boat name.
  2. I have mine connected but the other boats I fish with have there DSC numbers but not connected to there GPS. This is a shame as once we ad each others DSC numbers to the friends list in the radio they will show up on my GPS map showing there location & direction & speed they are traveling as long as they have the radio & GPS connected and turned on. Depending on what brand GPS you have it can be a bit costly my Garmin wired strait in with no additional cables but Lowrance charge something like $60 for a cable. As for the safety side of it if both units are connected to each other & you press the Emergency button your co-ordinates will be transmitted to all VHF radios within range including aircraft, not only that it will display on the GPS units that have the VHF connected = if I see a distress call on my GPS only a couple of kms away I will be there long before any emergency vessel. Keeping in mind a passenger jet cant stop & pick you up but I believe by law they are supposed to look in that direction for you (without changing course), then lets say they see smoke they will radio though to the nearest traffic control raising the alarm of what they have seen. For $60 sounds like good value to me.
  3. I use as little backing as possible but MUST have some there as the braid will spin on the spool under load and Yes I have seen it happen, in saying that my last reel I spooled had overcome this problem by making a loop to tie the braid to.
  4. As I said above mine will become my headstone (if not sold as deceased estate with out me knowing) What your saying makes good sense as much as I used to enjoy looking through the adds before the total ban on boats. I understand the site is not a free advertising for bobs back yard boats & alike. In saying that I think there should be some loyalty point system like amount of post or time as member to place any ad to keep all the dealers out (more work for admin though)
  5. Why do we have that 6m rule? Not that it concerns me although mine is 6.1 it will be used as my headstone when I die of old age!
  6. I would be more concerned about change of weather, what are you going to be in it would want to be 30ft+ before I considered that.

    Free bait?

them guys are really pushing hard to sell fishing gear lately, I bought a Tanacom 1000 there after comparing a number of different shops.
  8. the bilge pumps dont have enough pressure for a deck wash, to get the best idea of if yours is strong enough disconnect it from the bait tank & try it before buying any fittings. However I do believe you can run a deck wash pump from the hose between your bait pump & bait tank.
  9. Also the reason I was late arriving to the Humps last week, 2.5 km N/E of the humps I was marking large schools of fish hugging the bottom I couldn't resist ended up with toothy reef fish but there must have been something good in the area 2 charter boats also hung around there.
  10. I have the "baby chirp" transducer they are supposed to be good for target recognition but it doesn't read deep enough for me Ive gone back to using 200khz HD. Hunting the fish down is the best way to fish if you ask me dogbox, The first time I saw this technique was with a fellow Raider who wouldn't drop the line untill he found the fish - we had kingies for dinner that night 3 good sized ones caught in a very short time.
  11. I thought seabreeze was the accurate one of the day, You must have been well ahead of us, I was traveling just east of dogbox most of the way down sitting on about 15knots keeping in mind if my tinny bangs I back off - Im getting to old to be shaken. once it come 6:30 it was pretty good.
  12. Is thiat posted in the right section Teflon? only 74 replies on this thread! mmm make that 75 once I hit that "post" button
  13. Well we had a great day There was only 2 of us on my boat myself & Kevin (fishraider - Brudus) as we left Botany Bay the seas were letting us know they were there and the spray was freezing! by 6:30 we were at Jibbon the wind had calmed down seas had backed off & the weather continued to improve from there. With nothing to brag about we did get a smorgasbord of fish but anything legal was only just legal though we did get a snapper & that was the game plan 31cm but it was still a snapper all in all we had a great day out in excellent conditions and some good fun! All Thanks to DogBox for puting the plan in action.
  14. going by what I have been told, Alloy props flex & stainless doesn't giving the stainless slightly better performance Stainless prop blades have a slight lip on the tip of the blade giving bit more power again. Stainless dont wear or damage as easy. Stainless looks pretty If you are considering a new prop think about a 4 blade if there's a chance your going to be in rough water at any time - the four blade gives a lot better grip when the 3 blade actually loses grip and cavetates making it feel like the bush is slipping are stainless worth the $ probably not if your only in rivers & enclosed waters I wouldn't want to hit a stump with a stainless.
  15. Noticed the wind forecast has dropped from 14kn down to below 10kn since I looked at it yesterday.
  16. Ok not sure how much difference between make, model & size. I dont have the option to disconnect fuel line, turn key wait for light to go out (indicating fuel pressure has built up) then hit the key. Same as you do a fuel injected car once fuel gets to its required pressure the pump stops & some of the lights on the dash will turn off and then you start. disconnecting the fuel line is something that you would do on old motors that allowed the fuel to run back down the line, by disconnecting the line the valve would stop iar entering the line keeping it primed up that is if the valve was shutting off properly.
  17. was the cause of difficult starting lack of power or was it turning over as usual & not firing? Cant help with the battery question Ive never had the need for a deep cycle to get any experience with them.
  18. 140m youve got to be kidding me, I have a 10m rule on my boat - if the sounder says more then 10m the anchor stays in its well!
  19. Hi Guys Im looking at buying an electric reel for deep dropping, only Im not sure what rod to buy. I like the idea of the interline (line runs through the centre of rod) but need some feed back on them from guys with experience. Then other options are rollers that stop rolling or good old fashioned guides. The interline Im looking at is the Daiwa 66xhf or 561xh Thanks for any input, Brett
  20. good friends should have tow vehicles!
  21. Not sure how it looks on your screen but it doesn't move around on mine anymore .. I'm disapointed
  22. I will most likely still launch from Kyeemagh as usual for any wanting to launch from there, I know theres not a great deal of parking around port Hacking. according to my previous trips distance from Kyeemagh to the humps varies between 80 kms & 115 kms depending how far off course you go when trying different spots along the way. will still call in to Mainbar on the way back passed (where ever Mainbar is) Brett
  23. I have the Garmin GPSMAP751xs & love it! Menu's are easy to navigate. mapping software excellent even better with G2 vision I choose between 2 transducers GT20-tm & TM150 Chirp . I find myself using the GT20 more then the Tm150 although they give the TM150 a lot of credit I found the traditional HD-ID a clearer image in deep water. Free WI-FI software for phone & tablet is good stuff Most of the extras & add ons that you buy for it are usually a bit cheaper then the other brands. I bigger screen would have been great but the option was not available when I bought mine. Brett
  24. antonywardle is correct there should be no earth to that switch. To the best of my knowledge that switch is not the one for the job you are doing. that will only select one battery or the other or both when selected. in saying that the switch is fine its all Ive ever used I have never had a separate battery for starting. Any think that does require constant power (usually sound systems for there station memory) I connect directly to one of the batteries I start with both batteries (unless I know I have a week one) then while travelling have the switch turned to both this gives both batteries a good charge then flick to one battery while stopped keeping the other battery for starting incase we do drain one while sitting Brett
  25. Most units now days will operate on a tablet, some you will need to purchase a separate WIFI unit. Ive got the Garmin 751xs it has WiFi built in, the software for both I-phone / I-pad and all the ANDROID products is free from Garmin & gives full control of the unit. I have turned the unit on in boat while parked in driveway & sat in the house using the PC looking up GPS marks then adding to my unit via the galaxy tablet... so much better then trying to write them down. I also bought a pendo tablet from Coles for $50 just to have in the boat so that I can have the sounder anywhere on the boat while fishing. (the Pendo is not easy to see in sunlight though! Brett
