  1. Every fish has cycles and i guess its come full circle again and they are appearing. We have good and bad seasons on Bream, Jews, Flatties etc so why not on hairies. Im just happy that they are here and it seems in quite healthy numbers
  2. I love the mate. Is this a new finesse technique ive been hearing about? sneaking up on the fish? It obvoiusly works
  3. No Mate, thats what this is all about. There were three of us in the boat and we all had different ideas on lures and retrieves but i cant say one was more successful than the other. We all got 4 fish each. This may not sound like many but the fish only hung around for a short time. I was using Atomic 3'' Jerk baits (atomics new fat belly stickbaits), dad was using Storm's 4" stickbaits and george was using Berkley stickbaits. Dad did try a squidgy fish but had to convert to a stick like presentation to keep up. we were using fairly quick retrieves to cover ground and when the fish were breaking a flat out retrieve worked through the middle worked a treat. I was using a quick version of the standard lift drop technique so the lure looked eratic high in the water column with breif pauses to tempt fish following the lure. The whitebait the sambos were eating are deadset huge, some up to 8cms long so big sluggos will be a hit. The trevs were hitting lures meant for flatties. Atomic paddletails in the 4" size were proving the trick. George had good success on the 3'' sluggo i gave him but a tailor spoiled his party and i wouldnt part with another rare 3'' sluggo. I wish more stores stocked this lure. Any help here raiders would be appreciated.
  4. Sorry to hear about the lack of fish mate... good to hear about the bonnies though. I hope they hang till sat. Great bream bait
  5. Hi Raiders, Due to my pressing work commitment i have been a little late for this weeks report. Hope it still has relevance but i think it should.... after the long weekend passed, my dad has been on my case about heading to the bay to spin up some sambos again. If you read my post last week u would know that dad was like a gigglin kid with this new species, especially on lite 2-4kg spin sticks and 1000 size reels loaded with 4lb fireline. Undergunned? sure is but if u got time on your side and no obstacles in your way then its all fun. We arrived at the bay early to wait for the gulls to show us where the pot of gold was. Just on daybreak the gulls started to all head en mass in one location, first sitting on the water just waiting for the inevitable. What was funny about Sunday was that the sambos started to work in small eratic schools and didnt trigger off the birds to dive. Once we noticed the fish break the surface we speed up to them and turned the motor off and glided the rest of the way. We had a few double hookups and had sambos tail dancing like ballarinas. I just love the tenacity of this fish and on light gear would love to catch a fish with more gusto of the same weight. Dad had a few throw the hook on take-off and got cleaned up another time in a last ditch effort by the fish to take refuge under the hull of the boat.... i gave it to him all day about that one Mixed in with these sambos were tailor to 45cms and trevally in a range of sizes also. Dad got one that he swore at one stage or another of the fight was a jewie, sambo or a ray. Geez talk about covering your bases. It turned out to be a trevally around 1.5-2kgs, biggest ive seen come out of the bay anyway. Add to this 3 flatties and we had another pearler of a day on Botany. Cant wait for the sambos in the harbour now. And the new convert cant wait either.... 'Go Dad'
  6. Nice salmon mate... i love getting those fish on light gear. Pound for pound go harder than most fish. Like CFD said 'go the thai fish cakes'.
  7. I'd take 60lb any day of the week. If i got an 80lb model i'd hang up my boots Good to see you cleared this up but most would have suspected anyway... cheers
  8. I'm a bit ignorant about beach fishing but i need to ask. Where is Greenhills?
  9. to the site mate, I was at the bay on sunday and found the fishing really good. Its funny what a few days can do!. In saying that also i was using lures not bait so that may have made a difference and water temp was a little higher. I love the look of the Woronora River but never had any luck. Good to hear whiting coming out of the area. 42cms is a cracker.... a feed indeed!
  10. good to see someone has tried the technique.... persist mate it just keeps gettin better.
  11. guday stevo the devo.... hows the sp thing going? Hooked yet?

In another twist of fate... i caught my first Barra last month too on a trip to the Kimberlys. It measured... you guessed it... 78cms. Alot in common here. At first i thought this was a gee up from someone in knew.

    Is This Cheating

looks trick boys...interested to know how well it sees under water and how much better the fishing gets with the help of this thing
  20. your living up to your name King Man, well done mate. Sounds like u got the berley thing down pat. I try to berley but the only thing i get coming up my berley trail is ducks... common old fashioned wood ducks Scabs always manage to get some bread off me as well...im a sucker for a cute little peking style duck. Mmmmmm peking duck (AKA Homer Simpson)
  21. The sp's that we were using were 3" Atomic jerk baits ( there version of stick baits) in green pumkinseed. He have also had success with Berkley 3" Power Minnows. Never had that prob with Tailor either.... The tailor nailed some curl tails grubs instead?????? The flatties came on a range of paddletails, stickbaits and grubs (greedy bastards)
  22. Hi Raiders, Here is my third and last report for thr long weekend. After a jewless trip in the hbury on sat and a killer bream session at Berowra yesterday the old amn and i were up for some sp therapy today and a day on the bay was just the ticket. I was a bit concerned about the 25knot winds predicted but i new the electric would save the day as it always does. As soon as we peeked outside the cooks we saw a mob of gulls working a school of something. The old man wanted flatties but i couldnt pass up an opportunity like this. With no metals onboard, if the schools were tailor this surely going to be an expensive session. I might just include that my dad is highly experinced in river fishing but is largely inexperinced with this sort of feeding activities and species of fish. I took a punt that the commotion were caused by sambos and some fun was in store with our 1-2 kg spin sticks and 4lb fireline. With sp's deployed and birds working the first strike went to dad who thought by the way the sambo inhaled the plastic on a retrieve better suited for flatties that a small fish was on the other end. Then all hell broke loose. The sambo finally realised he was hooked and started to act more like a barra than a sambo peelin line all over the place. U shoulda seen the expression on dads face... like a kid onto his first ever fish...bloody golden. I still want to feel that way about fishing when i have 50 years experience. Obviously it was dads first mega sambo (and mega for us is 3-4kgs) but on the light gear made it even more impressive a fight. We landed 6 good sambos (three each) b4 they soon parted as the sun came up. Dad was buzzing from that experience and remarked how much better a fight they give pound for pound than a jew ( hes caught his fair share on the same 1-2kg outfit so it was a fair comparision i thought) We topped off the day with 5 nice flatties, biggest going 56cms, and a couple tailor of around 40cms. All in all a great day to be out and testimony to why we fish in the first place. Just a really fun day... u beauty! P.S. My uncle got an awesome blue groper today as well ( but in the cowan system) that weighed 22 old fashioned pounds on 15 pound line. Fight took half an hour b4 the fish was released.... thought it was worth a mention.
