  1. Sounds like a great day out with mates.... I like the enthusiasm of eating your bonnies in the boat... i might try that technique, sounds tasty ( ive never eatin a bonnie yet)
  2. I had a few squid follow my lure back to the boat at CC bridge last weekend. I thought for sure i was going to get a jew when i saw em but to no avail. First time i saw squid in the bay. I know they are there but i dont know where to find em...
  3. There is a consistant theme here... My lures of choice are; 1) 3" Berkley Power Minnow in pumkinseed 2) Atomic fat grub 2" in green gord 3) Squidgy wriggler No.3 in bloodworm 4) Storm 2" rattle grub in white pearl 5) 2" Berkley Power Minnow in Watermelon Not that much different to most of u guys. If the list was longer i would have added gulps, nymphs and eyeballs to the list but u cant choose em all i guess.
  4. FISHRAIDER ROCKS I love this site.. due mainly to the members who freely give up advice for those who ask. Its easy to work out where the fish are biting and generally feel that everone here is on the same level.... Fish for the fun of it. It disappoints me to see that people in the fishing game take themselves too seriously... get over yourselves fishnet and sportsfish members. Its not all about how big and how many! And being skeptical of catches cause it make themselves feel inferior...who cares? I love it here and will continue to give all the info that i can to assist anyone that asks. I know the members here would do the same for me. P.S Go the mods for setting the boundaries of interaction and letting everyone participate from a level playing field.
  5. Nice work... thats the good thing about fishing jew... anything may come your way and its usually big. I tried for jew yesterday but no cigar. Pop got one though...only 6kgs but better than nothing.
  6. Thanks Inhlanzi, and swordy too. Trust me though, im no master. The real kudos has to go to my dad who taught me all i know...Im still the apprentice. I guess a mention must go out to my pop too who has fished the hbury for 40 odd years and still kicks arse most weeks. This is the brains trust i learn from.
  7. Your telling me flattie, they are the best value for money rods on the market. I bought my first one 4 years ago for around 140 bucks. Now they about 55 bucks and i bought another 3. I love em to bits. I bought HORSE and his old man one and they love am as well. Stuff the G-Loomis bring on the Stella spin. Hey HORSE.. even the sun shines on a dogs arse somedays. Dont you just hate it. Take someone fishing a new technique and they end up teachin u a lesson. I hope its not a consistent thing. Honestly though it was good to see him catch a great Berowra Brawler first hand and get a taste for some seriously fun sportfishing action. C U for round two next time poncho.
  8. Hi all, Like a right D!@#head i posted a fishing report of my EP session on 'Fishing Chat' and had good info about the EP study being done By Chris from Fisheries. I hope that raiders on this site will embrace chris' research and help wherever possible. He will post here soon to give you all details on how to report info on the movements of these mysterious fish. Anyhow, this report is for friday so i apologise for the delay but i hope some of u still find it interesting. I went down the h'bury to attack the EP population again and i wasnt disappointed. This time though i was armed with some green fluro Berkely's that a local gun fisho laughed at me for such a loud presentation. It bloody worked though and i didnt take long for him to bite his lip. The sp acconted for 10 fish in the first 10 casts.... does it get any better than that. What better advertisement for Berkely. Admittedly they would of smashed anything... the fish were ravenous monsters. A slow retrive seemed to work best as the tide bottomed out. I must say that the fish bite best when the was some tide present. No run no fun. I love these fish... they may not have the gusto of brawling bream but never the less i enjoy catching them. I guess its because its a new thing and i still have alot to learn. If every session is like todays though the knowledge bank is building swiftly. I caught somewhere in the vicinity of 45 odd perch so i consider it to be one of my most successful sp days on record. P.S thanks to HORSE for dropping me back to my car on Wednesday after i locked my keys in the car like the proverbial Dhead i am.
  9. Tidy work jewman... it's an awesome feeling when the fish are active like that. every cast you anticipate a bite, every twitch of the rod you are focused... its the best
  10. You take a good photo mate.... where they killer whales?
  11. I guess im lucky raiders... my works every long weekend without fail. In fact she works every weekend without fail. Imagine... guilt free fishing days all the time. Sorry to rub it in Here's my schedule for th e long weekend; Friday Arvo- Hit the EP's down the h'bury for a quick few hours Saturday- Hit the bay for some sp action on palagics and flatties Sunday- Hit the h'bury in search of some jews Monday- Do some work around the house (bullshit- hopefully smash the EP's again- see how i go)
  12. The tailor seem a better class size this year... the 40cm-60cm models seem to be every where. Good news for those that eat em... or those of us who use em as jew bait
  13. where did you here this info boys?
  14. Nice bloody fish mate.... they are the most aggressive eel lookalike i've seen. were you in the cowan system? I have heard of em being caught in the main arm but obviously not as regularly.... I'm bloody glad they still are around, people like me have still got opportunities to pop thier cherry on one yet. Maybe a big season this year? Whatdoyareckon?

    Rain

I love rain when im fishing as usually the wind has subsided as well. It usually stirs all the fish up but we havnt had enuf rain to even make any impact on flushing the system out (hbury). We need a ton of rain and few downpours wont cut the mustard. After the last few rains the river didnt even discolour. S!@t

    Is This Cheating

I think i err on the side of the catching not angling debate. Yes they would be good to see if fish are present so weekend warriors dont waste valuable time fishing barren wastelands. But i think it takes away from the anticipation of stalking your pray and the joy you have when your nous and experience combine to produce results. Maybe i'm just a purist
  17. Hi Raiders, I popped down the hbury yesterday arvo for a quick session on the local EP's. I thought that this was the time of year for em but since my expertise is a little lacking on this enigmatic species i wasn't sure what to expect. As i arrived so too did a bloke from the fisheries named Chris Walsh, apparently doing a study on this species, and looking for some specimens to take away and analyse. Chris was a top bloke and i was only too happy help him aquire some if they were about which he told me they were.... you beauty. Contrary to what i have learned i tried a new sp initially to see how effective it was. I tied on a 3" Atomic jerk bait in motor oil colour and had instant success. I landed 4 fish around the 30cm mark, not monsters but tough little blighters, in the first 10 mins and thought a killer day was in the making. Chris kept these fish for research informing me that they were females in the process leading up to spawing. They were fat little girls and hungry at that. Then came a little surprise packet... i hooked up to another fish but this one seemed like it had taken steriods for breakfast. Half way to the shore Chris called it for a Bass but its a little hard to tell for the uninitiated like me. Sure enough it was a bass and at around 35cm was welcome bonus. THe Bass though would have the last laugh. As Chris kept the EP's for research none of the first few fish were put back and the fish kept biting freely. As soon as i threw the Bass back the Ep's went missing in action. I don't know if it is a coincidence or that bass affected the rest of the schooling fish but the place shut down... or so i thought. Chris was there to meet up with a local EP guru called Clint who by Chris' admission said 'if Clint dont catch em no-one will'. This made me curious as i would consider myself a good sp exponent but nowhere near a 'guru'. I wanted so see this so called guru in action. Do you know what ladies and gentlemen? I wasn't disappointed either. This young gun walked over to another patch of weed about 10 meters from us and proceeded to catch EP's one after another. Clint was on his lunch break apparently and fishes for EP's quite regularly and it showed. I reckon he caught well in excess of 30 fish in about an hour. Awesome stuff. It's good to see someone that good in action, you learn alot yourself. As i went back to car to change lures i stupidly locked my keys in the car. If it wasn't for Chris' generous nature to drop me home i'd still be walking now. I got a mate to drop me back to my car and i convinced him to throw a quick lure in. He hadn't caught an EP b4 but it was night time now and i couldnt garuntee that the fish would still be there let alone on the chew. We made our way to the spot only to see the perch bustin the surface and causing mayhem. Within short time i landed another dozen or so fish and saw my mate glow as his first EP came to the shore. The first of any species is a kodak moment, too bad there were no kodaks in sight. You gotta love this fish. Just one quick note. Chris' study on EP's is going to take some collective efforts to compile. He would appreciate any help on tracking these elusive fish as they migrate from one section of the river to another so we may understand more about them and in turn help conserve them. If you catch EP's in the hbury please drop me a PM so we may help Chris collate info on them, or better still freeze one and i will collect it on his behalf so it may be studdied. Chris is intending on posting to this website for assistance so i thought i would get the ball rolling on his behalf. Thanks in advance raiders.
  18. Hi Pitty, first of all to the site mate, When i read your post it made me laugh a bit. Your first post was very similar to mine when i first started. I think i posted the topic 'where are all the big jewies in the bay'. And got next to no response. Jewie fisherman are a funny breed of people and to be honest i cant see why really. I dont find em that hard to catch and i certainly dont rever them as much as others on this site. I have fished the hbury for a number of years and what advice i can offer is this. If jews are your quarry then get into current. The cowan system does hold jews, and certainly big ones at that, but there is too much effort for the return. Too many fishless trips and undersize soaps to be a viable jew mecca. You need to source out spots that are flowing with current. Jew are a lazy creature and prefer food to come to them by day so it stands to reason that current shall provide that for them. They also dont like to swim against strong current as it takes too much vital energy so the deeper holes will give some respite from this flow of water but still sweep food toward them. Jew will venture out under the cloak of darkness and hunt thier pray so cowan will fish better of an evening but rays and sharks love this area as well. I reckon that jew are easier to catch by day when they are holed up in current. They are predictable to find and lower a bait down to and will stil attack a struggling livie if presented in thier face. You need live herring or tailor for best results and i personally prefer an outgoing tide... hope this helps.
  19. Hi all, just putting in my two cents worth.... I can't see why the politics revolving around fishing cant be discussed openly and honestly on this site. There seems to be a general consensus that prohibits the discussion of such important and relevant matters guised as 'the best interests' of this site and its members. Yes, we all love what this site provides and in particular the way in which we treat each other but we cant be ignorant about the fact we are being discriminated against by certain political agendas. This is as much a relevant topic as what fish are biting and where. I also understand that these discussions provoke raw emotions within us so opinions may clash and heated arguements may occur. Ultimately we should feel emotive about this issue it affects and concerns us all. Without a forum to discuss it, though, how do we reach a resolution, how do we develop alternatives, how do we mobilise as one united voice against this predicament, as this thread is trying to do here. Yes, i enjoy reading about members fishing reports and experiences and based on this i would appreciate your views on this whole MPA debacle as well as any other fishing politics. You are people with similar interest to mine and share a common denominator with me in terms of how we view our environment and how best to manage it. I can understand Netic's opinion that the lack of political verbage makes this site great but i don't think that is the best way to inform and educate. The more we discuss these issues the better position we will be in to make informed opinions about them. Will i be there on Sat?... you bet your bottom dollar i will. Hope others don't feel that one person cant make a difference. If a thousand of us say the same thing then we lose serious clout. Every one person make a difference.... Hope to c u there
  20. i'll try and steal some pics from my dad of the old hbury days i'm sure some are bigger than 2kg.. I think 2.6 is the record for us
  21. hOLY S!@#T BATMAN....that looks like a mean son of a bitch
  22. there a few varietys. Ones that u said with the large claw. The brown shelled ones under the rocks, the green shelled orange claw ones that live in the mangroves in holes or the baby blue swimmers but these are rarer to find. Any about the shell size of a 5 or 10 cent piece will suffice.
  23. Are you talking a general comp where you catch any fish or a bream comp?
  24. here here TS, it's a shame that it finished its days being gawked at like that. Friggin huge but
