  1. If there is no red weed around, I might have a go at the beach, which beach are you looking at hitting?.
  2. Hey mate, I'm heading up there as well this weekend, if you are after breamin you could try Limeburners Creek around the racks, Flatties around the entrance to it and whiting a bt further up. Also depends if the red weed has disapeared, if not there is a nice little lake called Lake Cathie about 12 min south of Port which is currently closed to the ocean therefore no weed they have been getting heaps of flathead, with a couple whiting in the mix. Its pretty small but good if you want to get away from the weed. Dan

    Baitcasters

Heyas, I had someone give me an old Shimano Calais and rod they didnt want anymore the other week and got out today for a practice casting session, When trying to casr I was getting a lot of bird nests and trying to tune the breaks helped a little, but I found I was not able to cast things such as SX40s..maybe to light? as the heavier lures seemed easier. Are baitcasters made more for heavier weights such as lipless crank baits and spinner baits? Also, does anyone have any tips or know of any good articles on using a baitcaster. Thanks Dan
  6. Thats cool, managed to get everything I needed from ABA Thanks

    Snells?

Hi, Just wondering what the benefits of using a sliding snell over a standard snell is? With the sliding snell I am thinking this may slip in surf and cause the bait to bunch up? Thanks Dan
  10. I phoned Alex Belissimo charters a while back and figured I would rather buy more gear than pay the prices..it was 50 bucks per hour minimum 3 hours. Dan
  11. Hi, As the Salmon where on up the coast over the long weekend, I caught a couple and will make fish cakes out of them as they are not that great eating. But, is it worth keeping a few more and using the fillets as bait?, is it good bait?, are there many fish which can be caught with it? Thanks Dan
  12. Also went out the next day, caught a 69cm Salmon and another about the same size,as well as a Shovel Nosed shark.
  13. Decided to hit the Lake Cathie beached for my fist ever beach fish this afternoon after figuring out how to cast my Alvey since having the bloody thing about 2 years now. The wind was blowing a gale, but I was determined to get out for a fish and give this Avley thing another try, so rigged up a drove about 4 minutes to the beach, arriving about 1630 in time for dusk. Rigged up a pillie and cast out, the current was strong and carried my rig over to the rocks, managed to snag me up, snapped the line and re rigged, this time with a sand sinker, hooked up a pillie and punched out into the wind, managed to get a decent cast out just over the first set of breakers, current still dragged me over a little and finally grabbed. Sat there for a bit, and bump...bump...I loaded up the rod and the Alvey drag went screaming off, woohoo I was on and it felt good especially for my first ever beach session, it jumped out fo the water a couple times and, after a few minutes I managed to get this lady onto the beach it was a nice Australian Salmon of 68cm. Cast out another pille a few minutes later I was on again, it jumped out and gave a shake, manaked to throw the hooks, well it didnt thrown the hooked but the line slipped out of where the line connects to the hook...grrr...the loop was still intact as well. Out goes another pillie and on again, the action was hot, this one managed to throw the hook. Great evening and good session for 1.5 hours..considering my first beach session, I was pretty impressed. Dan
  14. Not sure about spawning, but you could try on a black fish float, and maggots or corn. Dan
  15. Oh that would have been good to be at, I still cant cast my alvey and have pretty much given up on it. Let us know if you have another one. Dan
  16. Depending on your budget you could take her somewhere like the Finger wharves at Wolloomooloo, retaraunts such as Ottos(John Laws Restaraunt) and Manta Ray(Seafood) have eaten at both great. Dan

    Beach Fish?

Hi, I am getting the bug to give my beach gear another run, have only ever attempted it a couple times at Port Macquarie and that was a couple years ago. Can anyone recommend a good beach to fish for a beginner. Thanks Dan
  20. I would be interested, I have a beach rod and alvey that I have only used once due to being not able to cast the bloody thing. Good time to learn
  21. Alveys are supposed to be easy, but bugger me if I can cast it even to the breakers.
  22. Good Stuff!, more people to fish with!
