  5. nice fish mate well worth the hard work. congats pete
  6. well done Adrian, some cracker fish there mate! the wharf at wiso's is very underrated for jew there have been some stonkers caught from there at times, very nice lizard also! I have a feeling this season will extend till about the end of june due to the unusual warm weather and water temp when they usually start to disappear around now. Im heading back down this Saturday morning with the new girlfriend it will be her first time out fishing with me so I am hoping to get her on to a good fish! hopefully I will have a good report to put up on sunday! pete.
  7. gday dave, I get 90% of my jew up at wisemans on peeled prawn, it seems to work better than most other things probably because it is a big part of their diet in that part of the river. I have caught a few on squid and strip baits also but its amazing how many times you can have a big bait out and the rod with a peeled prawn bends over and takes off with a good fish on it, including several over the 20lb mark! all good with the relationship stuff too mate - I have recently met someone very special and as a bonus she likes fishing! pete
  8. gday mate, i would be fishing either the public wharf or the bend in the river near the ferry. spotieanddotie has been getting them there from the wharf for a couple of weeks on squid according to his report, what ever you decide to use for bait make sure its in prime condition. I would be throwing one rod out baited with a double hook rig and california squid and another with peeled prawn, dont be afraid to put two prawns on if they are a little bit small make sure the hook is loaded up well. good luck. pete.
  9. gday mate I just use a trace roughly about 1mtr with a 1/0 hook or a size 1 hook depending on the size of the prawns with a ball sinker just big enough to get bottom. for some reason they seem to work better peeled, and they seem to outfish squid or strip baits too don't ask me why I really cant answer that one? pete
  10. hows it going mate? im standing at the public wharf just near the public ramp not far from the ferry. pete
  11. gday steve, not sure at this stage about the social but my mate joe just got himself a 5.8 metre half cab surtee so I might have to get him signed up as a raider and con him into going to the social! look forward to catching up soon.pete
  12. gday james are you fishing from the shore or boat?
  13. gday raiders. I haven't been online much lately because I went through a relationship breakup in December and was without a computer for quite a while and had to do everything on my phone but I am all setup again now and thought it was about time to put up a report. I took a week off work in april with the idea of fishing wisemans ferry but on my first trip realised that the large amount of rain we had prior to april had completely ruined things, the water was chocolate brown and there was so much fresh that all I caught in the first hour of fishing was fresh water eels so I packed up and went home thinking that I should wait until September / October before fishing there again, however with the recent warm weather we have been having I had a sneaky suspicion that the season may extend slightly this year and the water temp is still quite warm for this time of year so I decided to give it another crack on Saturday. I arrived at the very gentlemanly hour of 10am and only fished until 1pm and managed a nice 76cm jew as well as around a dozen smaller soapys and an undersized flathead .....not bad for 3 hours fishing. I actually left at the best time as the tide was just turning to run out as I left and I have found the run out tide slightly better than the run in tide but I had enough at that stage and I decided to give it a better crack this coming weekend before the weather gets too cold. All fish were caught on my favourite bait down there - peeled Hawkesbury prawns. I haven't figured out how to get the photo from my phone into the computer yet so I have texted it to swordy and he will put up a pic soon ( thanks stewy.) pete. There ya go Pete]
  14. wow guys what a trip!!! love it when a plan comes together. pete.
  15. gday raiders, I fished middle harbour on fri night with my son in law for some moderate success. we met at tunks park at around 8.30pm with the plan of drifting some of the shorelines for bream casting unweighted prawns up against the rock, but after about 3 hours we hadn't faired very well with only 2 legal bream in the esky , however I did manage a very nice trevally as a surprise catch which went like the clappers on light line and was great fun for a couple of minutes. Around 11.30 we decided to anchor up and fish for a jew. We were there for about 10 mins and a small jew around 55cm smacked one of my baits and although things looked promising we had to wait until just on daylight before the next jew came in and I managed 2 more just as the sun was coming up, the largest going 65cm. all three were returned to fight another day. I did get a good hit during the middle of the night on a mullet fillet but the point of the hook unfortunately was buried in the skin and did not penetrate. pete

    Bloody wind

I was at my parents home years ago during a windy day when there was a knock on the door and it was the woman who lived directly behind. I never heard a thing but the gum tree in our back yard had completely blown over and fell through a small gap between our fernhouse and avery without doing any damage to either, flattened the back fence and landed lengthways along a car the woman had in her backyard for parts and flattened it like a pancake, took out her clothesline and fell just short of her back verandah! pete
  17. gday mike I would be going while the weather is bad . As long as it isn't too windy they should be biting their heads off. We will have to try and catch up soon for a fish.Peter
  18. Very nice fish . Congrats to the young guy. Pete
  19. not sure what it measured but it would have been over a metre.
  20. Gday raiders, my partner went off on a cruise with some of her girlfriends for the weekend so I arranged for an overnighter on the haweksbury with my fishing mate Joe. We headed off on friday arvo at around 2pm the plan was to put in at parsley bay ramp head over to the bait grounds at the mouth of pittwater stock up on some livies then get serious about catching a decent jew. I bought prawns, squid, slimey mackeral and mullet so we had a good variety of both dead and live bait. As we rounded the corner at juno the wind was hitting us straight in the face and the tide was running out creating a very bumpy ride out to get the live bait ,quite a good swell was coming up the river and there were quite a few white caps I am sure if I had a surfboard I could have just about riden some of them! after a very uncomfortable half hour or so we managed around a dozen livies and headed back up the river to try and find somewhere fishable out of the wind. we finally decided that the western side of dangar island gave us the best protection from the wind so we dropped anchor in about 30 feet of water and hoped for the best. I threw 3 rods out 1 baited with a live yakka the second with a nice big squid and the third with a slab of mullet, joe dropped out a couple of rods baited with similar baits and for some reason decided to put a peeled prawn on a cheap rod and reel that he bought from the supermarket for about 30 bucks loaded with 6lb mono. We didnt have to wait long before we got some serious action and guess which rod it was on? you guessed it - the cheap 30 dollar 6lb mono rod!!! The rod bucked and screamed off and within about 30seconds stripped about a third of the line from the reel. It was pretty obvious that joe would very quickly run out of line if we didnt do something drastic so I quickly wound up the other rods pulled the anchor and motored backwards towards the fish while joe wound line back onto the reel and from that point on it was just a matter of following the fish around until it got tired, and after about 15mins the fish came up to the side of the boat and behaved beautifully while I netted her! 23lb of silverware!! We fished for the rest of the night for zilch but managed to get a few fish on saturday morning including five bream a flathead a nice red morwong around 35cm, and five smaller jew near the rail bridge ( the biggest going 65cm) all returned to fight another day. pete.

  24. I once caught a rod at wisemans ferry many years ago , it was a small baitcaster outfit and it hant been in the water long either I took it home washed it with fresh water and hit it with a heap of WD40 and it worked perfectly! - sometimes you can be lucky! very funny story mate I hope the scratches on the gut were worth it. pete
