  1. Well its that time of the year again were Kev and I head down to Portland Victoria for our annual Family Fishing comp over 5 days. Day 1 and only half the fleet had arrived but the weather was abit on the windy side so we decided to stay in close and gather bait for the next day. We managed to rake in some small salmon yellow tail barracoota and squid all perfect baits for bigger fish the next day out. Weather reports were looking promising for the next 2 days and we were excited. Met up with cousin Terry and Kev and I teamed up again 4 years running as Team Whitewash. The plans were we head out early Day 2 as the winds were going to be light and smooth seas and Mako Shark was on our minds and revenge on the beast which we had lost near the boat in 2011 which was around the 100kg mark So we headed back late afternoon to set up the gear ready and freeze the bait for day 2 and hope for tight lines
  2. Sorry guys but to me the Bay has never changed for the last 3 or 4 years. When they destroyed the Bay dredging to extend the container terminal it has never recovered. I hope Im wrong but Im not counting chickens. Rather Fish outside the Bay for a while. Tight Lines I hope
  3. Yes you can do that and if its chrome it makes good attracting or the kings. Big ball sinker 12 oz also does the trick.
  4. Went out this morning thinking surely the water is warm enough for Kingfish to show there faces but as always no sign of any life bigger than a paddle pop stick. Plenty of yellow tail and slimmeys around the bay at the moment as for the Kingfish well they havent given the bay a look in as yet. I've always known the Bay to be such a great place to fish because you always came home with a feed but the last few years its just becoming rediculious. 3 hours today anchored up in a well known kingie location with live baits out and not even a nudge Water 19oC Tight Lines one day soon i hope

Hey Andy, My mate went there on Wednesday. Water still cold at 17oC and there where no kings. He fished most of the day and moved around abit as well. He only managed a 2 salmon and 3 tailor late afternoon on the surface. Next month should start to kick in
  6. Yeah it was an awesome day once we got in close. The bait fish look like baby Gars but I most likely think they are sowries which I've heard by other fishos are Kingies favourite.
  7. Well it was going to be an awesome day wind wise so Kev and I headed out early in search of some early spring action. Headed outside and with 8 nice sized Yellowtail we caught early morning we headed for the Peak in search of some Kings. We dropped a few livies down on the reef with some scattered activity on the sounder I said to Kev I've got that feeling we are going to spend some time rigging instead of fishing as the Pirahnas (Leatherjackets) look like they are below . Sure enough Kev dropped twice and twice comes up Without his bait hook sinker and leader. Bloody Leatherjackets were in plagues. We didnt bother dropping anymor and headed back. Got a km out from the bay and the birds seemed to be interested in some surface action and we stopped the boat practicaly right over the school of huge Salmon all well over 3kgs and the amount of baitfish in the water was amazing even the colour of the water had changed. Out came the spinning outfits and first cast we were on hooked up several times and lost several as well but we managed 4 whopping salmon 3 to 4kgs 55 to 62cm The amount of baitfish these guys have been gulping was amazing Schools kept moving around and several times they went deep. We then headed in and drifted abit for 2 Flathead as well. Lunch time we then called it a day. Look the water tempreture is still cold at 18oC and 19oC at the peak but it wont be long for a big turn around and those currents coming in will only mean better fishing. Cant wait Tight Lines!!!
  8. Twinfishers reply is spot on matey. I have been going out a bit outside Botany Bay for exactly the same result big fat 0. Water temp is way to cold and the fish are not as active as they will be when those warm currents start moving in. Plenty of Whales out there and thats about it! Tight lines!
  9. Thats the bay for ya mate........nothing has changed.
  10. Good Fish there Barcrusher. What was the water temp out at the 12 mile? Must be pushing 19 yeah?
  11. Well another top day on the cards light winds and smooth seas so decided to head out again trolling outside. Water temp still struggling to get up so once again was not expecting to do cart wheels yet again Headed out 3kms and worked back and down towards Cronulla and Jibbon but it was all dead on the surface. Never turned a reel Amazing the water at 19.5oC was bubbling with fish a fort night ago but these cold currents which are close in now have spooked the fish off the bite Anyway thats fishing!! Did manage to have a pod of dolphins surf the front of the boat which was the highlight of the morning Still a few weeks before we see some lift in the currents. Tight Lines Raiders
  12. Well the conditions were forecast smooth seas but the winds were expecting to pick up mid morning so decided to head out early with the boss little Darral in search of the schools of baitfish on the surface that has been present the last week or so. Amazing in a week the water temp outside the bay was struggling to get the 16oC mark and I knew straight away we were going to find it tough today. Headed North towards South head hoping to find some warmer water plenty of mutton birds and seagulls swooping the water about 2kms out in search as well never seen so many mutton birds prehaps its breeding season on the east coast for these guys. The surface was quiet so we anchored up over some structure off sound head and within the first 30 mins we were getting some action with Trevaly just short of legal at 28cm and the boss got a good hit on his rod with alittle weight on the end as well. With a 5 min struggle for the little man we finaly got it to the boat and it was a good sized Port Jackson Shark of around 12kgs . Got him to sit still for a minute so we can get some pics with him and then send him back to the drink to fight another day. 10 mins later my rod buckles over and it was another port jackson shark around the 5kgs which was released near the boat. At this stage the winds had picked up and we decided to move on and head south back to the bay again. We trolled most of the way back for 1 bonito around 50cm and that was it temp realy done the dirty on us today. Wind kicked up to 25 notts so we headed back in. All in all it was a good days fishing with a few buckles on the rods hopefully those Northerly winds come around and push some warmer water down our way. Tight Lines
  13. I dont know why alot of people dont rate the salmon as eatable.....secret dont freeze them . under the hot bbq or webber for 10 mins in foil with basil lemon peper lemon juice and chopped garlic and you have a top feed of beautiful Salmon. You wont be throwing them back after preparing them that way....trust me!

  15. Awesome Kel. Yeah I was out there yesterday and found the same thing the North side of the heads is about 2 degrees warmer and just 2 kms out your at 19.5oC. Salmon schools are everywhere busting up little anchovies. very hard going to find a lure tiny enough to cast out. Tight lines!
  16. Well after a busy morning running around had 2 hours to kill before picking up my son from school so the day was just begging me to get out for a quick 2 hours and I was not dissapointed. Spectacular conditions with a slight NW wind and flat seas water temp at 18.5oC the action was very active outside the heads. Saw just about everything from dolphins a whale in the distance and boiling water full of Salmon and the Bonito in amongst the feeding frenzy Well I pulled up right alongside the school and spinning was real easy. Managed to hook 10 Sambos all up lost 6 near the boat and boated 4 nice sized 2 to 3 kg fish in 90 mins Was real hard in finding the right lure for these guys as they were feeding on tiny pilchards so anything bigger than a 10g slice well they werent interested in. It was time to head back which was real hard leaving the fish on the bite but was happy with just getting out there Signs are good and hopefully a bumber season coming......lets just hope it aint a washout like last summer Tight Lines
  17. Little Quiet now mate..... wait till the water warms and the weather improves and hopefully those artifical reefs fisheries have dropped in the bay turn the fish on this summer.
  18. Hey mate....Long nose point is very productive in about 30ft of water you cant miss the bait balls
  19. Well we took a chance with awesome weather on the cards so Kev and I headed down earlyso we can be on the water at sunrise. Perfect conditions with a slight 10 nott W wind and calm waters. Headed straight for some bait and our first mark didnt take long for some livies. Filled the tank within 20 mins so we headed for Point P. Sounder was alittle quiet with the odd patch here and there so we drifed a few live baits out for s few hours but no takers. Had them out mid water and down deep. So we decided to head for another marked spot and anchor up. Had a nice burley trail happening and it took a while before we had some action. We managed 8 bonito 55cm 6 trevally to 35cm 2 bream 32cm 5 rainbow wrasse then it became alive with massive slimmey mackrel and they were in plagues under the boat. We manged to land 57 all were 35cm to 40cm long. Fantastic bait for our next fishing trip. The Kings never showed up but we had a great days fishing regardless. Tight lines! :-)
  20. Hi raiders anyone fished Jervis Bay the last few days? Has there been any fish around after all the rainlast month? Cheers and tight lines!
  21. Yep like eastwoods reply they are great tucker. Only kept 2 macs to eat and 2 bonitos. Filleted them and soaked overnight in a dish with lemon juice then fry them up next day.....beautiful
  22. Well Saturday arvo and what a day it was so Kev and I decided to take the kids out for a troll and with light winds and just a touch of swell we managed a great 2 hours of fun. Trolled over the same area several times and the sounder was alive with life beneath the boat with the water temp climbing to 23.1oC we got stuck into it. Mack Tunas decided to pop in close as well as the bonitos and we managed 12 within 1 hour. all around the 45 to 55 cm mark . Great to see the warm water pushing in close so I rekon its time to head out for some big stuff. Tight Lines!!!
  23. I'd say it be from all the rains we have been having. I've seen this before in Jervis Bay after alot of rain.
  24. Its been the worst summer I can remember.....even finding good size kings is a struggle....i hope the warm currents hang around for a while.
  25. Hi there Raiders well the forecast for the remainder of the week was rain rain and more rain and even floods so it was the chance to go out before the big wet. Headed out mid morning and after landing a few dollies around the 50cm mark last week around the close in FAD's I thought to give it another bash out there. Remarkable the water temp had dropped 4 degrees down to 21.1oC in a few days and headed out to the cronulla FAD then to the peak and the inner FAD off South Head and absoulutely Zilch out there. Cooler water racing in has spooked them off. Headed in close and trolled a few lures off Maroubra and managed 3 Bonitos 50cm and 3 undersized Kings at 45cm bloody babies caught them attacking my burley bucket so threw out some unweighted yellowtail baits hoping a few big ones were around but it was the small ones taking the baits. So it was not much happening after a good week before. Lets hope the warm currents return in a few weeks again. Hoping to land some good fish down Eden in a few weeks time hopefully its firing down there. Tight lines!!!
