  1. Raiders, Just wondering if anyone has any reports down the Eden neck of the woods? Cheers
  2. mate they are everywhere......just find structure piers buoys anything in the water will hold the bait.
  3. another month and it will be firing with the big ones!!!
  4. Yep the water temp has dropped a touch to 22oc and yes the fish are hard to hook up unless you have the right lure. They seem to be chasing whitebait as tiny as a 10g gillies. This is what ee were hooking them on. Nothing on bigger lures. Fussy fish.
  5. Just a quick report went out yesterday afternoon for a quick flick in search of some bait for my big trip south next month. Hoping for plenty of bonito as the reports have been saying they were in numbers in the bay. Didnt take long to see the birds diving and schools of salmon and tailor chewing on micro size white bait. Flicking out 20gr shinners were not working so down size to 15gr and we strarted to get a few hits. We managed about 10 tailor about 30 - 35cm and kev git himself a whopping bonito about 50cm. They were real fussy and if you didnt have the right lure you were wasting your time. We did manage to hook a salmon until it decided to spit the lure right near the boat and straight into my hand....oouch. Spoiled the fun because it was pack up time and straight to the hospital to unhook myself. Tight lines!
  6. Yeah mate I've experience many trips out to the bay like that..........Mainly big fat zeros as well until you head outside. As for the bonnies they tend to be very fusy so you just have to experiment with different lures until you find the size and then you will be bagging out. Good to see them move in and the chopper Tailor buggered off. Tight lines Dude
  7. Mate they are some awesome Kings there......Good stuff and great to see JB firing up. I heard the same thing about how hard it is to find squid in the bay but there are Slimeys everywhere. You catch them off Point P?
  8. Hi Fishraiders, I have a problen which I hope someone could help me out with who may have experienced this as well. My Lowrance unit has a Navionics Australia wide plotter installed and when I have turned the unit on the screen shows the waypoints trails etc but the map layout has vanished. The screen is white with no coastal layout . Now if i zoom out to the last setting I see a Map of Australia but when I start to zoom in again the screen becomes white with no map. I've gone to Map Data set choice in settings and Lowrance is there but Navionics is not. Can anyone help me out on how to restore the mapping. Im hopping it aint the card as they are an expensive bit to have to buy again. Cheers
  9. Thanks for the heads up guys.hopefully get out there again in a few weeks
  10. Hi raiders Anyone been to JB in the last few days? Was planning a trip down there in a few weeks. Thanks
  11. Well it was time to head down to Jervis Bay to try and tackle some of these Big Kings that lurk around the bay from time to time. Got big Kev on board and headed out early. By 6am we were on the water straight for the bait grounds in search of Squid and yellow tail. Long nose point seemed quiest and we were finding it hard to bring the bait up with the burley trail so we headed for Murrays beach and we finally found a school of bait fish jumping on our hooks. We filled the bait tank with yakkas and managed 1 squid as well. Time to head for Point P around the cliffs and we downrigged for a hour but with not even a touch incredible. The sounder did not even bring up and solid returns I think the Kings are still playing in the warm currents outside. The water seemed to have drop down to 18oC and we were not confident in taking home a prize fish. We gave the down rigger the flick and decided to anchor up and just burley heavy to hopefully bring in something. We had 2 live baits out on balloons which after 5 mins being out got nailed by 2 whopping sized Bonitos which we used for frseh Snapper bait. Kev had a squid head out on the bottom and wack we were on.... the baitrunner on full drag with 60lb braid and 100lb leader we had no hope stopping this thing the bend on the rod and line screaming off the reel we got reefed. That was a big King and me think over 15kg's for sure. Anyway back at it we moved around to a few other spots we had marked out but all we got all day was 1 Bonito, 10 Yellow finned Pike, several Cods and Wrasses and 1 nice pan sized snapper at 40cm. All in all it was a quiet Jervis Bay but the water temp says it all, it just not fires up until that temp climbs above 20oC and the surface feeders start to roll in. We will be back Tight Lines
  12. Wako............What can I say they are some seriously powerful Kings you have there mate. They are awesome fish and to see you having caught them around Sydney has got me stumped. I have been fishing around your location several times and only managed Rats but who knows this year they may have been fattning up. Lets hope. Great report mate and cant wait to see the video. Tight lines!!!
  13. Trolled for an hour near and around the FAD but quiet. Some good returns on the sounder 100mrts W off the Peak but dropped several lines down and chewed off every time. Plagues of leather jackets.
  14. Anyone thinking of going to the peak make sure you have plenty of wire trace. Went for a quick run with the boat and dropped a few baits down but trying to get pasted the jackets was impossible. Every return there was no bait and hook. 50lb mono just does not with stand a chance. Tight Lines
  15. Well it's Saturday Morning and the weather finaly turned on the goods so Big Kev and myself can get out for a fish. Started Early and on the water by 5.30am and headed straight out for some bait. We found finding the bait hard as we only managed 6 Yakkas so we decided to head straight outside the bay with half a dozen and try our luck for some big Kings. The swells were pumping some decent 2 mtr sets from the SE outside so it made it alittle hard to downrig the baits in close so we decided to head north to wedding cake island off coogee. Found some good returns on the sounder so we anchored. Sent the livies out and a few squid baits but it was the squid baits doing the damage. We hung here for an hour but there were no Kings around but did manage a mixed bag of Snapper to 30cm Sweep to 35cm which were all released . Headed again just North off Bondi and found yet aagain some good returns so out go the baits and instant hook ups with Kings. Managed to boat 5 Kings all taken on squid baits but were all under the size limit around the 55 to 60cm mark. Alot of sweep around as well and manage to bag a few of those as well. At this stage it was around 11am and the wind picked up to around 20 notts from the NW and the SE Swell made it a rough ride home so we called it a day. All in all another day of fun and plenty of under size fish But it wont be long for the fun to start!!! Water temp was 20.4oC Tight lines
  16. Cracker snapper there boyz well done!! It's been a while where I see Snapper caught like that close in. Almost looks like you might be in Victoria.
  17. Here Here......You have hit the nail on the head mate. I happened to be at Rockdale Plaza the other day shopping and the amount of undersized Kingfish they were selling was unbeleivable. These fish were no bigger than 50cm and we get slugged for taking home a fish under 65. This is where our fees are going to the mungrus breaking the law. Great post!
  18. Good to hear some kingie sightings. Yep that is salty the seal he has made Mol/point his bedroom. Always seems to be there around lunch time. Tight lines!
  19. Well it's the time to get rid of the covers and wet the boat for hopefully a good summer season of fishing. Headed out in the Bay to see if there was any surface action yet and it didn't take long to sight some action just outside the heads. Schools of Salmon everywhere . There were at least half a dozen schools working the surface between Cape Banks as far as Maroubra. Hooked 3 good ones around 2kg each spinning metal slices poppers and plastics. However they were very pickey with what lure to take. 15gram Slice with a red ribbon worked the best. It's good to see the action starting to come alive in September. Did try abit of bottom bashing on the close in reefs but quiet. Salmon was the go today. Tight Lines
  20. Just went out today for a quick flick outside Botany heads heading towards maroubra and there were schools of Salmon everywhere. Managed to hook 3 good size ones but they were pickey in which lure to take. 15gram slice with red ribbon worked the best. Tight lines
  21. Anywhere there is structure. Oil wharf breakwall all good spots
  22. Headed out with big Kev once again on an early start this time and try to get some good fishing in before the big change. Water was slight inside with the winds from the SW around 10 notts. Anchored up and started burley trail for some live bait and within no time we had a tank full of Yellow Tail. Headed out to the normal spots in search of those bruising Kings but was realy quiet early so we headed outside. The swells weren't pleasant as they were around 1 to 2 mrt mark but we braved it out. Drifed a few baits out from Yellow Rock and we struggled in getting a decent fish but we did manage 2 keeper Snapper going 35cm. It was around midday wh when we decided to head back in and give the bay another shot as the winds became stronger and gusts up around the 20 to 25 notts at times and we found some shelter at Mol/point. We anchored East side of the breakwall and decided to stay put for the next 4 hours and it paid off at the end We had a run of Big Salmon 55 to 70cm, 3 Kingfish 62 63 released and keeper 65cm, and 1 Trevally . All fish were caught in a few hours on Squid but the Botany Bay South Wester blowing upto 25 to 30 notts now and the swells of 1 mtr + was just becoming unbarable so we headed home minus the anchor So anyone anchoring up near the point you might just find you maybe pulling up a reef anchor with a heap of chain All in all a great afternoon untill the wind showed up. Tight Lines
  23. Couldn't ask for a better day weather was just perfect with no wind but a big rolling swell outside the heads of around 3 mtrs. Livies were hard to come by and couldn't find a patch of bait that would eat so stuck to using bait. Mol/point was dead few small snapper being caught but that's about it. Then headed near the oil wharf and same there as well. Water has dropped even more down to 17.5oC in some parts so headed outside where the water was warmer but even there was quiet . Called it a day so headed home. All in all a dead day!!
  24. Hi raiders just wanted to know if anyone has fished jervis in the last week or so??? If so any luck with fish? Cheers
  25. It's been a while but finaly got to get out on the bay after a month of miserable weather. Straight out to the bait grounds to gather some livies but was surprized to see a huge drop in water temp inside the bay from last month. Down to 18oC still managed to get a dozen livies for the downrigger. Straight out to Mol/Point and downrigged a few livies did several passes but no luck with any hits. Looks like the Kings have taken off. So it was time to head outside where the water temp climbed to 22oC and with minutes a great return on the sounder meant it was time to anchor up. Down goes the livies and a few baits and within 5 mins the livie had turned into a nice legal Kingfish going 67cm . Another livie down and huge squid seems to latch onto him so out comes the squid jig and in no time it hits the water the squid is on and a beautie too . Body alone went 35cm a good 1kg squid. Action was great for about 30 mins till a 200kg seal came along and spoilt the party and the fish. Did not want to leave and every livie which went down the mungru would knock it off. So it was time to pack up and head home. Not a bad 3 hour session. Definately outside the bay is the way to go as the sea temp is still a warm 22oC buy it won't be for long. Tight Lines
