  1. Hi Raiders, Went out Sat Arvo for a quick flick. Spotted about 20 dolphins all going nuts on the Tailor which was under the boat. Never seen the sounder with arches quiet like that in the bay. Looked like a swarm of tuna beneath me. Anyway it was hard to get any fish so we decided to take some pics and move off. This was 200 mtrs outside the entrance to Towra. We spotted another school of Tailor going nuts close to the point and we managed to catch 10 legals at 35cm and several 25cm fish which we released to fight another day.. All in all some good fun.
  2. Which heads did you catch these beautys from? Botany or the harbour?
  3. Awesome stuff there mate. Those Kings are a sure prize over 90cm. Good to see them in early. Tight lines.
  4. Well another top day and couldn't help myself had to take the boat out again for another outing looking for some surface action and I was not dissapointed. Went out to the wall to see if I could find some bait but with the E Swell of around 1 Mtr rolling in found it hard to be still so decided on heading outside once again. Swell was alittle bigger outside but didn't stop the birds, they were everywhere. I knew there was some surface action to be had and sure enough within a minute of dropping the lures out the back Bonitos ranging 40 to 50 cm. Trolled for at least an hour over the same water and picked up 20. All around mid water so the deep divers were working best. Also caught several on the 70gr Halco shinner. Released most of them but kept 8 good ones for bait next trip out. Went quite for a while so headed out to some of the close in reefs off Kurnell to get some protection from that SW wind. Ahchored and berlyied heavy which was bringing in the mutton birds for a feed and incredibly a southern white whale decided to pop his head out 20mrts from the boat and only 20mtrs from the rocks. WOW!! Not only do I go out for a fish also throw in a whale watch as well.... Spotted another 2 breeching the water about 1km out which was very impressive. Anyway it was time to call it a day. With the water temp half a degree up from last week at 19.6oC it's looking like by the turn of November we should be firing.....lets hope!! Tight Lines
  5. Off come the covers and out goes the boat and what a day it was . Beautiful Sunny morning with a slight NE wind and a swell of 1 mtr made it just perfect to venture out. Plenty of mutton birds and gulls hugging the surface. A few patches of breaking water here and there but they don't last too long so you got to be quick in casting amongst the school. Some undersized Kings Bonito and Salmon were in the bunch. always moving around looking for the schools to bust up. Manage to hook a 54cm Kingfish which was released to fat up alittle a Bonito 42cm and a monster squid which took the gillies pilchard 40grm whilst jigging the bottom . All in all a great morning out in gods country. I could do this all day everyday easy!! Lets hope it's a bumper season this year. Tight Lines!!!
  6. Crap to eat but a nice jewie bate!!
  7. Hi Fishraiders. What are your views on this??? I think it's awesome however they definately should be sinking it South of Sydney off North Botany Bay Heads in 50mtrs of water out of the way of the shipping channel. This will turn the Bay of empty into the bay of plenty for sure!!! It will bring life back to the south!!! This could change Fishing down here for ever Tight Lines hopefully
  8. Nothing strange about that!!! It's like that 9 out of 10 times you go fishing in there. Hopefully the next time you go out it will be the time you catch fish.
  9. Headed out again with Kev for a quick 4 hour session. Day started off very foggy but cleared mid morning. Seas flat and it looked promising. Achored up near Mol/point and some good returns on the sounder so we dropped the baits. Within 5 mins we all three rods go off at once 2 Rods with Pilchard baits the other jigging the bottom with a Gillies 25gm shiner. 3 great sized Salmon around the 55cm mark. It then got quiet so we pulled up achor and headed outside. Found some good marks outside Maroubra and water temp being a pleasant 18oC we thought we might be in for some good Kings. Had several rods out with Squid pilchard and mackrel baits. plenty activity and rods were bending over. Hooked a few reef species Sweap Sargent bakers and yrass. Then one of the other rods which had the squid bait goes off and it was looking like a good king. Got it close to the boat when it did a big bolt to the bottom again when it saw the net and ping.... Not happy Jan. Not a big King but it was a keeper. Anyway a bit of fun for a change and some action. Tight Lines!!!
  10. Yep a Barracoota there mate!! You will find heaps of them this time of the year in the South especialy.
  11. Thanks Scott for the tip. I did fish a few floating baits as well but there was nothing going. I thought there might of been a few Salmon or Tailor around but a big fat 0. Also tried outside on few reef beds just outside yellow rock and same there. We realy need to put a strong word out there to fisheries for that some more artifical reefs need to be laid out along our Eastern suburbs coastline and also maybe put that freekin Navy ship that the Central Coast people have protested against and sink the bastard just off the North head of the Bay in 100ft of water. This will realy change the bay after all the damage it has sustained since they dredged the bloody thing We need something down here. The Central Coast is full of wrecks and reefs and down here we have nothing in close. Anyway catchya on the water.
  12. Headed out for a mornings fish, weather conditions just perfect with a slight SW wind and a rising high tide. Went out to the 3rd runway trolling a few lures and put out a few squid baits for Zip Then headed to the wall with nothing as well. It seems like the bay has no life what so ever. Sure there is fish but nothing seems to be caught which is legal Honestly pisses me off in how this bay of plenty has become the bay of empty in last year or 2. Has anyone got an old ship that needs sinking........Sink the bastard just outside the heads so it will give us some hope of bringing the fish in close. Anyway the only thing which gave my reel a work out was a Port Jackson Shark 100cm which took a squid bait just off Kurnell. Can't wait for Summer to arrive!! Tight Lines if there is any.
  13. Hey Dogtooth, Some nice kings there mate. Mid 90's good fish. Looks like you were wide off cronulla. Keep up the good work and great reports. Cheers Aquanaut Say Hi to Iro for us.
  14. Hi Scott glad you think it's a good idea. We realy need something in the area around Botany heads. The Bay has been very poor this year and with the works they have been doing has realy taken it's toll on the fishing. I could say say everytime I have gone out this season the fish have been all undersize snapper, bream and kingfish. We need to start up a petition in maybe luring the HMAS Adelaide to the area around our beloved Botany Bay and the Central Coast people won't have to protest about it anymore. South Sydney Council should request to bring it here. We definately need something in this area. Seeya on the water. Aqua Naut
  15. Headed out 9am to the bait grounds for some yakkas and hopefully find a few kings today while the water is still quiet warm at 22.4C. The day was just perfect with just a slight W breeze. Found yakkas no problem with some bigins as well. Got 12 in less than 20 mins. Then headed straight out to the reefs outside Kurnel and out around in front of Bate Bay. Trolled lures on the way out for zilch. Hardly any drift so we never achored dropped down a few livies. Both livies down foe a good 20 mins for no hits until one was getting hit by a large squid which we brought close to the boat so out came the jig and wammo hooked a solid kilo squid. We stayed out there and moved around quiet abit looking for some returns but nothing seemed to want to touch the baits. We headed back inside and we come across 2 seals just floating on there backs getting a suntan...... and a pod of dolphins so we figured why it was quiet today. As we got close to the drums we saw the water bubbling and it was Frigate mackrel chomping on little baitfish so out came the 10gr gillies white bait lure and bang a frigate gulped it and in the boat for bait on the next trip out. School disappeared so we just decided to call it a day. Not sure about this place any more it seem to be so productive many years ago but now I'm not so sure. Those protesters that don't seem to want that navy ship sunk up the coast off Avoca why don't they sink the bloody thing just off Maroubra so there would be some life in fishing down this neck of the woods. I rekon you won't get fishos protesting that down here. We need something!! Tight Lines!!!
  16. A nice catch boys. I'll be out there hopefully Wednesday. Great report.
  17. Headed out for a quick 2 hours fish before work and headed straight out to the drop offs outside little bay. Found a massive school of bait and some good returns beneath on the sounder so out came the Halco 40grm chromies and started jigging. Dropped down to about 40 feet and straight away hook up on a solid bonito. There were hundereds following it up as I got it close to the boat. There were a few kings (rats) amongst them too. Hooked several times on the bonnies. Landed 8 in 30 mins all around the 50cm mark. The kings were not having a bar of it just coming up for a look and then back down to the bottom. Also lost 2 big Bonnies close to the boat. It was then time to head back and get ready for work but it was great fun being out there. Try again next week. Tight lines!!!
  18. Hey Dogtooth, Yes I saw that nutter on the news last night. Tax payers money to go and save him.........They should be paying the bill! Anyway looks like another good session for you with Bonitos. They seem to be everywhere at the moment. Anyway keep up the good work.
  19. Headed out for a quick run in the bay once again in search for a nother King. The swells were rocking in and the bommie was kicking today. So decided to stay inside. Anchored and picked up 10 yakkas for downrigging. Went straight to the point and put a few down. Plenty of activity around the 30 feet mark so did several swoops until wammo The rod is bent over which looks like a good king. Got him close to the boat then pulled the hook. A good 5 kg fish by the look of him. Anyway passed over several other times hopping to pick up another but it wasn't happening. Went out to the oil wharf and ahchored over some good ground holding some fish. Had the live yakka out for a good hour and no takers. In the mean time fishing with yellow tail fillets picking up 1 nice Trevally going 45 cm 1 Bream 40cm and a 40 cm Flathead. Sent down a halco 20gr and decided to jig for the bonito which were lurking beneath. Managed to pick up 4 Bonnies jigging. Great fun! Great for bait on the next trip out. All in all not bad for 4 hours of fun! Tight Lines!!!
  20. Great day mate.... That is one hell of a catch the hammer head would of been fun to catch. The tailor was an awesome size by the look of it and the frig Tuna was a great size too.
  21. Oh good to see you on Fish raider too Iro. I was wondering who this was, then the water filter gave it away. Yeah let me know when you want to pop in and check it out. MrP
  22. Headed out once again in search for a keeper king. Headed out on light straight to the bait grounds after some livies. Within 15 mins I had myself 10 yakkas and then headed to the wall for some downrigging. The wind was a shocker and did not make fishing easy as it was blowing a 15 to 20 nott SE. Got the yakkas out down to 25 feet as the sounder was going nuts. Had 1 good hit but missed the hook. Brought up the yakka to see it biten in half by something with big teeth . Did several more trolls but they were not striking. Was to hard to anchor up at the point so decided to give the heads a go. Come up a school of Mack Tunas off kurnel heads working bait schools. Out came the Halco 20gr and first cast it was gulped by a mack going 45cm. Great fun on light gear! Then 5 mins later a Tailor decided to jump on as well and it going just 43cm. Water was getting way to bumpy so decided to head for calmer waters to the oil wharf. Achored up there and buryled heavy to entice the so called kings which happen to be roaming this area of late. Got the livies out for a good hour and no hits. Got the little shimano bream outfit out with 8lb mono and decided to bait it up for bream with half pillie. You would never believe it but 2 mins later Bang......... the reel is screaming line out like a steam train and this was no bream. I knew I had to fight this fish for a while if I had any chance in landing it and by the way it took off I knew this was a good king. Anyway 15 mins later I see colour and it was a nice Kingfish going 75cm. Incredible 2 live baits out for over a hour and no takers but the good old pillie was the winner in this occasion. Hung around for a little while longer then the wind became a pest so decided to call it a day. So finally a keeper king looking the goods for dinner Friday night. The bay is definatly improving slowly but surely. Tight Lines!!!
  23. Decided to head out for a quick fish before work. The weather was not looking the best as the Southerly already was blowing about 20 notts at 9.30am but decided to head out for an hour anyway. Got past the last marker at Towra when the water started to boil up and birds were going belistic. Out came the lures and with the first cast Tailor at 37cm. Soon after another at 40cm. School kept moving around so always were chasing them. Casting out the gillies 15 grm white bait and also had the halco 20 grm both working the treat. Then something you don't see to often in the bay Mack Tuna busting up the water as well well inside Towra and hooked a few of them also going 55 and 50 cm. There was just fish everywhere but was doing it tough as the bay started the usal trick and become a washing machine with the winds picking up to 25 to 30 notts. Anyway decided to head back in and call it a day. Finished up with 8 good Tailor and 2 Mack Tunas in about an hours of fishing . Left the bay still boiling at 11am hoefully they will hang around for a while more. Good Fun on light gear!! Tight lines!!!
  24. Yep that's one Kingfish that found the way in.........Well done. That is the first I've seen caught at the 80cm mark for quite a while. Lets hope the others find there way in too.
  25. A quick session in the morning was productive finally some action in BB. Heaps of tiny white bait scooting the surface just South off the third runway with Tailor and Kingfish hitting the balls. Out came the gillies 10g and it was getting smashed every cast. Hooked 10 nice Tailor at 45cm. The Kings were behind the tailor chasing them all the way to the boat. That was awesome to see . The Kings didn't want a bar of the lure as they were just interested in chasing it and nothing else. They were only rats and a heap of them too. Went quiet for a while so I decided to give outside a go with the down rigger with some livies down deep. Tried several trolls but nothing. Decided to head to Brighton for lunch and a swim and try alittle more fishing in the arvo. Headed straight out to the same spot as the birds were going nuts. Got the lures out again and on again. Another quick hour of fun with a couple of Salmon going 2kg's and another 3 Tailor at 45cm. Lost my only 10g lure I had and decided to head home. Anything larger than the 10g lure they would not touch it. All in all a fun days for a change! Tight lines.
