there are a few issues that come with braid
if you have a habbit of running your bombs into things your are going to loose them braid will cut on sharp objects unlike wire
you have to wash out the braid after every outing just like with your reels salt will build up in the braid and if left unchecked will result in the braid snapping and you loosing your bombs
and from time to time you will need to check the knot connections at the bomb to make sure the knot is ok and if not cut the braid and retie
there is nothing wrong with braid tho but i prefer wire as i have a lot more confidence its not going to snap and loose my expensive bombs and if i get it snagged on a tree branch underwater instead of praying it wont cut the braid i can simply power on and rip threw the tree
and if the hum from the wire gets to you theres ways to fix it
simply get a tennis ball make a slit in it and place it on the wire up as close to the downrigger as possible
and bamm hum is gone
if you have room on the boat bring as many rods as possible
dont have to have them all out just have them rigged up for all situations
nothing worse then having only 1 rod and a school hits the surface and you have a 300gm jigg on your only rod i like to always have 3 rods ready to go one with jigg one ready for live bait and another with a big sluggo
nothing worse then rerigging in the middle of a shit storm leads to bad knots and loss fish
happened to me last weekend still having nightmares
nice work mate and welcome
your game throwing a keeper kingie back to stick with the taylor
i much prefer a kingie on my plate to a taylor
im sure there will be alot more kings in your future
haha i dont no about fit haha
that fish has been showing up in my nightmares ill be sure to check my knots and if its not 100% redo it
only takes 1min and saves alot of heartache
im always keen for a fish Steve name a time and a place and im ready to go
haha ask slinky if he has any problems with Gulp
i dont mind using other peoples gulps but i hate having the things in my tackle bag
they always leak the seals on the bags are rubbish and they dry out way too quick
squidgy pros are the way to go no leaks just add a little sfactor onto the lure
and they can be left of the hook and they wont dry out
shame you didnt get into some bigger fish
i havnt fished pittwater for a few weeks now so hopefully its heating up
theres a good drift near lion island thats normally pretty good for flattys
also heard that some of the fish traps outside are holding some dollys a lot are undersize but a few are legal
not sure on distance from land so could possibly be out of range for a non epirb boat
I might try get out for a session some time this weekend depending on how I feel after the big day out on Saturday
Good to hear the boat went well hopefully you wont forget about the bungs again ha
haha if the same thing happened on my boat and we lost a fish to a bad knot i would of thrown them in the water steves too nice haha
congrats on landing 9 you did alot better then most ppl we saw out there
cant wait to get out there again got the big day out this weekend so wont be fishing this weekend so might have to take a RDO during the week
also got the first week of feb off so ill be out there again trying to crack that magic meter mark
if you turn your radio on and it goes to chan 16 you have a VHF radio and need a license
if it doesnt you have a 26meg and no license required
i need to get my license soon i dont want to cop one of those fines
i dont even use the radio i just have it for safety
sounds like a good way to do it
can you tell me the website u did it from and the info on finding a Invigilator
so did the $100 cover the website access and the fees for getting the license ?
found the website HERE
yeh was a great day on the water
the first fish i connected too would of been close to the 1mtr mark
put a really nice bend in my 25kg jigg stick but the knot i tied was a rush job and didnt hold up
and Gorms i was using a blue 200gm Zest jigg
caught up with steve at 130am for a fish in the harbour
after getting some squid and yakkas we head outside
downrigged colours and i connected to a nice fish but loose it do a bad knot i tied bit later steves rod goes off sadly was only a rat
trolled some lures around north head steve pickups a little bonito
tried a spot of jiggin on a marker after we had seen some rats
i connect into one first thinking its a rat till it starts pulling 6kg of drag off my reel after a small fight i boat a 90cm king few min later into a small rat then 1 more bust off
thanks again steve for a top day was my first time fishing the harbour and i go home with a 90cm model and some new knowledge
cant wait to get back out there i need to get my 1+ meter model
I was out there yesturday
caught a few rats lost a great fish but lost it due to a bad knot I tied fish was easy over the 1mtr mark
I did land 1 90cm king while jigging one of the markers
nice kingbo
i see you have a baitmate with the builtin livie tank
what do you think of them im going to invest in a simular one soon
what size is that live tank 20ltrs? can you fit many livies in there
i think im going to get a simular setup to that one but with a few more rods holders and stubby holders
and i want a larger tank prob around the 40ltr mark
like this one
my boat came with a big 75ltr plastic fuel tank when i first bought it
we had problems with the tank which we put down to the connection on the fuel tank its one of the old merc styles that looks like a big T only problem is you cant just unscrew it and put a new one on
just wondering is it possible to change these some how
i rather get the old one fixed then shell out $300 for a new one
cheers
they sure are cheaper
keep in mind the warranty wont be valid in Australia
so if it f@#ks up you will need to send it back to the states
i use a few imported reels and i havnt had a issue yet i take care of my gear tho
