  1. Thanks Fabian, it wasnt that bad weatherwise and not that cold I thought one things for certain the water has cooled down for winter the fishing was better then I expected too usually when its cold its very slow but the bites noticably increased around 10. I had the jewwie rod with me but got lazy so I didnt bother setting it up perhaps I should have done so!!!

    Regards,

    Nathan

  2. Hi Raiders,

I thought It would be good to share my latest fishing trip with you all.

It all started as I walked into the office this morning and my phone goes off that I have a message.

damn I thought, what does the Wife want now!!!! to my surprise It was a text from Will AKA Budsta wanting to go for a fish tonight. It honestly took about a microsecond to make the decision lol as It has been a while since I have been out and knowing that the rain due this weekend would mean I would have to wait another 2 weeks to fish was a no brainer for me!!! Anyway we meet up as planned armed with pillies, Worms & chicken and don't forget the squid jigs, we arrived around 8pm tide had started to run out but was still quite calm, we both flicked our jigs around for about half an hour for a donut. The water was still dirty from the recent rains lots of debris etc, but squid had been caught recently as there were ink stains on the pier that looked fresh and the guys there had managed a couple, we decided not to waste our time and get the bait rods out. the baits sat around for an hour getting the odd nibble but it was looking like a bust. Will was fishing Pillies, I fished worms then the chicken, Will was also throwing pillie cubes in every 20 mins or so.

The fishing eventually picked up around 10pm as the tide ran a bit more. the chicken was the stand out bait but I believe the burley played a big part in our success, we ended up getting a few bream between us nothing massive possibly 1 or 2 close to legal but we did not bother measuring, everything went back to grow bigger.

We decided to pull the pin about 12, a great way to spend a few hours after a week at work and I have another fishing buddy. hopefully Will and I can get out a bit more in the future and possibly try target jewwies!!!!

tight lines raiders!!! sorry no pics this time maybe next time will take some photos!!

    Regards,

    Nathan

  3. Thats pretty impressive Fabian goes to show with persistence and a bit of patience you can solve issues like this. lucky for you it wasnt the ecu itself as that would have got very expensive as always love your work!!

    Regards,

    Nathan

  4. Fabian, Id normally say better luck next time but it sounds like you had a good night with your famioy so ill say well done on getting out with the family and enjoying the peace and quiet. Its amazing how the same spot can fish compleatly different after just a week. out of interest was there any significant differences to last week like tides, water temp, water colour etc?

    Regards,

    Nathan

  5. Fabian, I need you to be my neighbor I really love your work!!

you are right 100% about shoddy work I have had a few jobs done that could have been done better so I have starting to DIY where possible.

as already mentioned you are a legend!!!

    Regards,

    Nathan

  6. as allready mentioned there are far better baits then chicken and if youre targeting flatties soft plastics are probably the no 1 method. I am a chicken user also and you will get fish if there around as long as you use quality bait. plain chicken works also so if youre in a hurry just buy a chicken breast or theigh on the way and take a pair of chicken shears with you but on a serious note when i did more soft plastic fishing id catch flatties in just about every outing so if you can make it to the soft plastics day it would be worth youre while.

    Nathan

  7. How old is your daughter (don't answer if you don't want to)? Mine is 7yrs old. Is it a hopeless case or is there some tiny hope of turning her to the fish side?

    Hi,

My daughter is 7 also shes been keen since she was 5 but was easily destracted so I decided to wait till she was a little older.

  8. Thanks Nathan, reason I ask is I watched an episode of fishing Australia over the weekend where the host caught a jewie from a houseboat on the Hawkesbury. He stressed to keep the bait off the bottom by winding it up a bit so you don't catch sharks, Ray's, eels etc. thought it might help you out for your next trip there

Thanks Luke Ill definitely keep that in mind next time I am out that makes perfect sense cause I caught both sharks and eels when going for jew.

I really appreciate your input and advice.

  9. Thanks Allan and your spot on and as for the jewwie I have a feeling its just around the corner I caught a few keepers a few years back but latley I have not been fishing a whole lot but I am trying to get back into it this year!!!

  10. Great report Nathan thanks for sharing.

Out of interest how far off the bottom was your Jew bait?

    Hi Luke,

Not exactly sure how far off the bottom I just tossed it out with a no3 running ball sinker, a swivel and about a 50cm leader from the swivel so perhaps a meter off the bottom give or take as the sinker would go down and the bait would float above it or that's how I think it should work. if anyone knows differently please correct me if I am wrong.

    Regards,

    Nathan

  11. We went out again today and the little one caught a herring and after convincing her it was a good idea we rigged up my rod and sent it out live.

the rod started bouncing after a while and she kept asking me to bring it in so I decided to let her reel it in and sure enough a nice tailor on the hook.. that will be filleted up and used for bait another day!! she was stocked and I think I have a new fishing buddy!!!

    Nathan

  12. Hi Raiders,

I just thought I would share this weekends adventure on the Hawkesbury.

After receiving a invite from my mate to jump on his brother-in-laws houseboat I was there in a heartbeat.

We set off early Saturday Morning, fished the entire day and most of today.

As usual we headed to the rail bridge for the change of tide for a couple of bream not monsters but as long as we were catching we were happy. Once the current got too much we moved over to mullet creek into the shallows to have lunch and wet a line and see what we could find, well after a few hours a couple of small tailor and bream, still feeling confident as we were gonna spend the night. All I could think of was jew jew jew jew!!!! plus I had some recently caught Hacking Squid so it was all I could think of.

I managed to convince my mate and his brother in law to spend the night at the rail bridge.

We headed over there and within 5 mins I landed a nice 38cm Bream. woohoo first decent catch we were all excited!!!

a few more casts and it was starting to get dark so we got the bbq out and started working on getting some dinner sorted.

I threw a squid out while we were cooking and not long after that it took off... was it a Jew..... NO!!! but it would not get off the bottom I kept at it and finally got it up and it was a shovel nose shark only a small one and a first for me, so a couple of photos and off it went. After that, We were inside eating dinner and I had another squid out and half way through dinner I hear the drag go off again!!!! could this be what I was waiting for............................

I grab the rod and was fighting this thing for what felt like a eternity and then up comes the biggest eel I have ever seen at least 1.5 meters I was not happy and cut the line but the fight was pretty good...

after that it went quiet and a couple of hours later I managed another shovel nose and was starting to think it was going down hill but as I do kept at it and around 11pm the reel went off again.... my mate and his brother-in-law quickly ran outside they must have known this was what we were waiting for.. after a few runs and again what felt like a eternity I had my Jewwie. unfortunately 65 cms and undersized but I felt very satisfied as I had put in the effort including catching fresh bait and landed the Jew which was very rewarding for me and nearly a keeper!!! high fives all round and back in the water he went and it was also the first jewwie I have caught for 2016 hopefully many more or perhaps the magic meter... well see!!!!

Anyhow I kept fishing till about 2am and had 3 runs which possibly were jew and caught a few port jacksons so I decided to called it a night... Sunday morning we caught a few more bream but that was pretty much it. we went for a ride on the boat and moored at refuge & then America bay so we could have lunch without the boat being rocked allover the place and around 3pm we called it a day. Thanks for reading raiders, and some pics for your enjoyment.

    Regards,

    Nathan
