  5. Nice fish there Greg....those reel handles look soooo good! Are you using pogys? I was also out with my dad on Wednesday for a last trip before he goes to China for a month(dont know how im going to survive without going fishing for that long!), we ended up with four the biggest was jus shy of 3kg, they were all taken on 6inch grubs
  6. Wow ive never heard of branzino braid sounds awesome tho!...might have to get my hands on some... Miller blanks have heaps of balls, sounds like it pulled out a really nice fish for you on Monday The washes between the harbour and cape banks are mainly adjacent to deep water, and some of the headlands hold big fish. Last summer for instance i hooked a 70-80kg marlin on my certate and a white 7inch shad while fishing for snapper. Of course didn land the fish but had it on for 20+mins before the 20pd trace wore through. Snapper wise the northern beaches hold more fish, off the eastern suburbs drawing blanks on some sp trips happens somewhat often (well for me at least). Im sure there are some sp anglers who pull consistent results along the eastern suburbs. The eastern beaches does hold some shallower ground which has produced some fish but nothing spectacular. And areas where i thought they would be without doubt has not really produced. PM sent Greg cheers alex
  7. cheers mate.... have you found that the bites have decreased since you increased your braid strength? Sounds like a nice sp combo your running there....im using as my main outfit a certate 3000 with a diawa tournament saltwater rod, have been smoked a hand full of times. The way i see it the 20pd fluorocarbon trace is more likely to snap than the 15pd fireline. I believe part of my success with not being dusted too often is that i dont put much pressure on the fish running light drag and try and ease them back to the boat before they wake up. When i was in NZ sp fishing for snapper the skipper told me to run light drag so as not to get dusted (didn really make sense at the time) but after a few really good fish it did. When running lighter drag, braid is alot more abrasive resistant and when in shallow water say less than 15m good fish will usually get the bottom regardless of what drag your using on a light to medium type outfit. The skipper in NZ even went to the extent of pulling out an 8pd outfit and boated a few reds over 6kg and got dusted only twice. Though fishing like this does take the fun out of it sometimes especially if you like to high stick your fish and lean into them cheers alex
  8. cheers chicka let us know the next time you go out would love to join you cheers alex
  9. Thanks for the replies guys. Yeah the fish was a real buzz to land. There was a hell of alot of casts for that fish as we worked all day for it. Targeting in and around the washes can be productive especially this time of the year as the cuttle fish spawn and the snapper come in close. hey chicka, Apart from todays session had not been out for three weeks. Yu told me about your new purchase, sounds like a good boat too and by the sounds of it youve had some good sessions on it! cheers alex
  10. Went out today targeting snapper on plastics around the washes off the eastern suburbs. Amongst the hordes of barker and pike pulled out this beautiful fish which went 5.35kg on a 7inch gulp on 15lb main line and 20pd fluorocarbon trace. The fish was hooked right in amongst the washes and called it for a king at first. cheers alex

  15. Interested in tackling some reds on sps, was thinking of going out with the hunter boys, jus looking for numbers at the moment and will float around a date later on. Is anyone inteerested? cheers Alex
  16. Depth range off the eastern beaches is very similar to the northern- mainly between 15-25m...ive found that the reef off the island has no major pinnacles lke those off the northern beaches.....i use conventional snapper sp outfits....atm the main rod i use is a certate 3000 loaded with 12lb and a samuri 10-12lb rod....most of the time im using a 3/8th oz jighead with 5 inch jerk shads.....most of the snapper ive been getting out of the eastern beaches have been in close off the headlands cheers alex
  17. Hi Alex. To all you guys that look at tides and moon phases when you go fishing, YOU GUYS ARE TO SPOILT! Mate I go when ever I can get out. I wish I had that much fishing time that I could go in "so called peak times" but I have only been able to get out 3 days in something like 10 weeks and all three have been half days. That's one of the main reasons I bought the boat I got, just to get me out and back fast to maxumise my fishing time. I have about 5 Sydney marks I hit so far. Each time I go out I just fish them in rotation till I find the fish. Hopefully I try hit one more spot per trip to try broarden my run. I always have the sounder and plotter on while running out and back and try never to run the same lines and ALWAYS watch the sounder. Any little hump or drop that has bait on it I drop a mark on the plotter for further exploritory runs. Doing this I get to grid the bottom with my plotter, hunting anything intersting that might hold fish. Over time I should get some interesting information from it and every bit of info helps. G Hey greg, Three times in 10 weeks i feel sorry for u been trying to get out too but this weather is shit...dying to get out there and hit the reefs off the northern beaches...funny how the reefs off south sydney are not as productive as the northen beaches....even coogee's wedding cake...have had a few snapper sessions there for little returns and the ones we do get are little tackers...You ever had any luck south of the harbour? cheers alex
