I went with abu, but thats only becoause i dont seem to have experimented with anyother brands. i find abu never lets me down so i have no need to search elsewhere.

I've been using Abu for long time, but they seems very hard to get repaired in Australia. However, my favourite always being shimano.

i like my penn reel, but i think my next reel will be a shimano for my combo rod

and im getting an alvey for a beach rod!

For mine, daiwa is the hands down winner for the top end stuff but shimano has it easily at the more budget end of the scale.

Some brands excel in certain areas of fishing more than others so its pretty hard to pick a favourite brand that will excel in every area.

My favourites are:

Spinning- Daiwa

Baitcasters- Daiwa

Baitrunners-Shimano

Small Baitrunners- Okuma

Rock & Beach- Alvey

Game- Shimano

And although I wouldn't rate them as a favourite with any form of fishing that I do, I still have a soft spot for Abu.

My core collection consists of Daiwa, Pfluger and Abu reels.

Love Shimano but for some reason never bought much gear other than an old calcutta 100 that is still going strong despite me purchasing it while I was still at school (have forgotten how many months pocket money that was )
