Penguin Posted October 31, 2006 Posted October 31, 2006 (edited) Hi raiders, Went out on the harbour Mon morn, started off at Rose Bay at 6am, couldnt get any live bait there so dropped the boat in the water and went out towards the heads.Salmon were there but Bill and I couldnt get them to take any lures or bait so we gave up on them.Trolled some lures out of the heads south towards Bondi and back for zip. Went to the Wedding Cakes and got a dozen or so Yakkas, then off to Middle Harbour and experiment with my new downrigger, had an absolute ball there for the next 2hrs trolling lures and Yakkas, got 7 Kings(56-75cm 3 released)and a Jew(62cm),and had a couple of bust offs. When things went a bit slow we moved back towards the heads for a bottom bash,we settled on a spot just outside South Head,in 3/4 of an hr there we landed 6 Snapper(30-52cm 2 released),then had to leave and head for calmer water as we were both a bit quizy thanks to the wind and waves, Tried Clifton for only one Flatty(38cm released),then back to the Cakes and managed to land 6 Trevs(36-40cm). We called it a day after that and went home pleased with ourselves. penguin Bill and some fish Edited October 31, 2006 by penguin

Penguin Posted November 1, 2006 Author Posted November 1, 2006 nice day. mate what kind of lures did the kings hit? Hi mate all Kings were caught on live Yakkas except 2 which hit on wat are called Kingy Candies,I attached a long thin strip of squid to the hook and downrigged em. Kingy Candies I got from Fishfinder bait and tackle, and Tony there suggested I add the thin strips of squid to the lure.
crystalliser Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 That's a very nice mixed bag u've had there penguin. Great work on the kings! Cheers Ronald

What do you think about the downriggers? rzep mate, its the 1st time i've used em and obviously they work or maybe we just got lucky,I gotta admit though that I dont really like trolling as I find it can be noisy and boring at times,I do like anchoring up set a few rods up and sit back relax enjoy the piece and quite and wait for a bite penguin Edited November 1, 2006 by penguin
Mondo Rock Posted November 1, 2006 Posted November 1, 2006 Great Stuf Penguin - you tried several different locations and techniques and they pretty much all worked!! And now that you've got the downrigger sorted you can start chasing the real big hoodlums on the closer reefs outside of Sydney. Congratulations on a great day on the water.

Trolling is hard work, and monotonous, but the results speak for themselves. I think it would be good to mix it up.

I once share your sentiments on trolling. sitting on an alluminium seat going round and round a bay was not what i called fishing. I suppose I am a bit older now and I find trolling really relaxing once you are set up. These days I am just happy to take in the scenery as i drive around. Davo
