olitay
Sorry I just couldnt resist! However im telling the truth! Yesterday, I was one very proud dad! you see, my daughter has not really been keen on heading out on the boat with me so I have never really pushed my luck thinking that in time, she would let me know when she wanted to come. Last week before bed Olivia said, "Dad, i want to catch a fish!" you can imagine how excited I was, here was a barbie obsessed 5 YO tellimg me what i wanted to hear. So quite calmly I replied "no worries sweetie, if you still want to go by the weekend let me know and we will go and catch you a fish!" Well that was Monday, throughout the week there was no mention of fishing, I baited her imagination as much as possible, watched Finding Nemo over and over, strategically placing fishing mags in her room and even placed her hot pink rod and reel near her door, but nothing!. Sunday morning rolls in and you guessed it! "Dad, are we going now?" and with that, I was in full swing! I hitched the boat and headed for the ramp. Well the rest is history, Olivia landed her PB Snapper (ok, its a squire. I didnt want to down play it) and she was VERY excited. So, here's to a new fishing buddy for life. Im looking forward to Olivia beating her PB. I dont think it will be difficult. Billyd

Keflapod
Well done BillyD, Nice to see the kiddies getting into it. So was she OK to let it go or did she wanna keep it and eat it? Wait until you get a nice snapper of 2kg and she wants to let it go ! Then the fireworks will begin.... Get her used to the saying "Fish are FOOD, not friends...." Wait until you get a nice snapper of 2kg and she wants to let it go ! Then the fireworks will begin.... Get her used to the saying "Fish are FOOD, not friends...." Thanks for the comments guys, it really is satisfying seeing a kid so happy to catch such a little fish. Keflapod, to my suprise she asked if we could cook it. At the time I had the frypan and sausages going and she asked if we could plonk the fish straight on. I explained to her the rules and she was happy to let it go. Like you said, she will probably make me throw back the keepers now.

ports86
Great story. You will treasure that trip for ever. I remember catching 68 little snapper with my sister. I was 8 and she was 10. Dad rowed a 6 foot hand made timber row boat out from watsons bay and we fished near these white light houses. Now I know them as the wedding cakes. That was 37 years ago but still fond memories. And she has an impressive list of PBs also All her birthday money she spent on soft plastics. She is now studying for her boat license (has to be 12) Do it right and you will have a fishing buddy for a long time to come
