MikeTan
Hi, got an old 1980 100hp Johnson 2 stroke that needs a couple of spark plug leads. Searching eBay it Seems spark plug leads comes in various specs depending on engines, year of engines and HP. where can I buy them? What would you recommend? How much would it cost? raging
I’d start here http://www.marineengine.com/parts/johnson-evinrude-parts.php?year=1980&hp=100 find your model and then look at ignition. You can probably derive it from that.
MikeTan
Fixed the lead ..tested with ammeter...... cyclinder 2 and 4 not firing up. i was running it on 2 cylinders for a couple hours out in the water on Sunday. Could that have stuffed up the cyclinders? Any ideas? Edited January 22, 2019 by MikeTan
jeffb5.8
probably need to start with the basics 1. Swap Plug leads from 1 & 3 and see if 2 & 4 now fire 2. Compression test each cylinder and compare the difference between them 3. plug condition new old , cleaned
dunc333
as jeff said basics first do a comp test and post results ,otherwise you might be chucking good cash at a motor thats not worth fixing
MikeTan
Perhaps silly question but would the cylinders that are not firing up have any compression? -. Before I spend money buying some to test compression. To prove that the cylinders are not firing up ....I started engine and pulled out the spark plug leads and there were no drop in idling speed. I am learning hence you might have to cut me some slacks on amateur questions
jeffb5.8
Hi Mike We all started somewhere and if you don't ask, your wont learn, The cylinder could have zero or low compression which could mean a head issue (Head Gasket) or a ring / piston issue If the cylinder has good compression Eg: all cylinders have very similar compression and its close to factory specs then the issue might be with the coil pack or electrical. So if you swap 1 & 3 leads with 2 & 4 and those cylinders now work as normal you may find its a coil issue. Can you borrow a compression tester from a neighbour or work friend Where about is Sydney are you a Raider may be able to help

MikeTan
Problem found... It's the power pack...Swapped from right to left and cylinders 1&3 fired up. Thanks to all. Any suggestion where I should get a 582125 CD4 POWER PACK (B) It's for a 1980 Johnson 100HP outboard.

jeffb5.8
That’s good not sure where to buy Johnson parts from and if you are keeping the motor for a few year the extra $$ for a new reliable coil pack would be worth it.
Rebel
Hi, Just read about your problem. There is a Johnson specialist at Harbord. If you need his number let me know. Cheers.
MikeTan
Anyone know what is the outcome of using power pack from a different year and lower HP outboard? off a 60hp into a 100hp Johnson
raging
Check on something like marine engine if they share the same part number, if so, you’re golden

Suspect it will probably cause misfires.
