JonD
Went out with my daughter on a social day deep dropping on the charter she works on. The fishing was generally quiet for all boats including us but we did manage to find a few tasty species from the deep. Plenty of whales and dolphins out there and still talk of yellowfin were on the radio. I believe the longlines have also started getting a few bluefin off the coast too. First time catching one of these rough-skin sharks which Im told are very good to eat.

Ive eaten ling, its been tender & then its been as tough as an old boot. I guess its a but like tuna where it has sinew lines running through it, especially towards the end of the tail?? noelm
Those big Ling are not to be confused with those horrible little brown ones you catch in close, the ones pictured are good eating, though the looks kind of sours the taste a bit for me, especially when they get that coat of slime on them.

Other ocean species have a thin coat of slime on them ,including blue spot flatties at times.
