Handlining - preparation

I’m targeting flatties (& Jewies if there around) on handline tomorrow. On one of my last trips I lost the lot overboard (I’ll be in my LGA on Hawkesbury River).Pics below show my new approach. good idea Bob-many years ago was fishing on a mates dads tinnie off Terrigal drifting for flatties and snapper on the rubble grounds. We only used handlines and my mates dad used to fish with 2 at a time (and outfish us young blokes about 10-1). He would usually drop one of his spools over the outboard tiller arm and on this occasion the handline got hit by a good a fish and launched the spool off the tiller arm and down into the deep blue. Anyway about an hour latter we caught sight of it floating (after doing about 3 new drifts over this piece of rubble) and still attached was a very nice snapper up around the 4-5 kg mark. It was a very nice piece of luck on that day!

Issac, this time of year, I only use prawns as bait. Dave / Noel, The noodle is to ensure it floats if it goes over, I’ve had some sink / been dragged down in the past and If I’m blessed with snagging a Jewie - it’ll go like a rocket.
