Rebel
Arrived around 6am. Overcast. Nobody here. Had the place to myself. Fishing for Blackfish. Caught eight, kept four for the pensiioner neighbours. I usually do catch & release. Tried some new gear. New Ugly Stik Carbon 7'3'' rod with a 3000 Kastking spin reel. No float. used a 00 sinker, size 10 hook with green peas. 10lb mono line with a 10lb leader. Some thing different. Great morning. Cheers.

Were they taking it before the bottom?
Yowie
Something different that worked. Sounds like it was worth it with the peas. Good effort. Blackfish tend to take different foods during spring, and we are heading that way shortly.

Larkin
Nice catch Rebel! Good on you for giving some fresh fish to the neighbours. 👍 I’m sure they appreciate it.
Pickles
Way to go @Rebel, you legend. Its great to hear of experimental approaches to enticing fish. When float fishing for Luderick, the “float down” indicates the fish has taken the bait, when you were fishing with peas without a float, can you feel the bite / take? and then you lift, or do you feel the take and let them run before “striking”. I’d like to give this a go, sounds like a new take on a traditional form of fishing (Blackfish fishing is where it all started for me over 45 years ago). Thanks for the report.
Green Hornet
8 on peas, that’s crazy Rebel!!! I’ve heard of guys getting the odd one on peas, but never that many. Great job and good on you for considering the neighbors.
Rebel
Thanks everyone. I couldn't believe the first bite on the way down. Read somwhere ages ago a guy was having success with green peas. Swansea chanel is red hot this time of the year with blackfish. Cheers.

campr
Just curious about the peas? Fresh, frozen, tinned, dried? Ron
Rebel
@camprJust cooked peas. I did freeze them & let them thaw out. Bit soft & fiddley putting them on the hook. Worth the try. I will try it again, just in case it was a fluke. I did use some scent, not much. As I said you have to experiment. Cheers.
fragmeister
62 years old. Spent many an hour fishing the rivers from the Tweed to the Shoalhaven, fished the ocean from SW rocks to Eden. Been fishing for Luderick since they were called something that you can't call them now! Not once did I hear of or think about using peas as bait! You never stop learning!
