jenno64
Yesterday I collected half a dozen prime live poddies in the Hacking and I planned to fish a spot or two in the Georges this morning for a jew or trophy flathead. I tried for some squid around Kurnell just on high tide but no joy as the water was still pretty discoloured. Next stop was up river and the tide was starting to turn outwards but no joy so I tried a couple of nearby shallower spots with very little action. As the tide started to run a bit harder just after 10am I returned to my deep spot and had a livey down and was holding two rods with a large plastic and the other a soft vibe. I had a good drift right on track but my sounder isn't working so I relied on landmarks to h=get on the right line. All of a sudden the livey rod goes off with a screaming run and I quickly retrieved the two lures to get them out of the way. I set the hook on the fish and started getting some line back, I could feel headshakes and it took off on another run under the boat. After a minute or two I saw a silver slab and netted a nice jew. It was a fat brut and measured just over 85 on the lie detector. After a couple of happy snaps I released it and it took off with plenty of life. After that its was pretty quiet with a half dozen small flatties coming on board and released. I managed one more 50cm flatty under the bridge and packed up around midday. Gotta love it when a plan comes together🙂

big Neil
A well-orchestrated plan produced the goods Rob. Gotta be up there as one of the best-looking fish in the sea (Jewfish)...beautiful shiny bodies and always clarity in their eyes. Well done. bn

Little_Flatty
I just paid good money the other night for a big slab of mulloway for two at a fancy restaurant. No regrets - it was divine - but would be nice to catch one for the table instead of buying it! Need to start fishing with bait again! Nice couple of fish for the family. Well done. I took one home at 96cm last year and got my local fishmonger to clean it and do up cutlets. It was too much fish for the freezer so I release all jewies now and keep whiting and flathead that we eat at home. Get out there and get one!
Larkin
Nice Jewie! 👍 what rig do you use with the poddies
jenno64
I use a slider rig with a 30cm sinker trace (teardrop sinker) sliding to a 60-80cm 20lb trace and a wide gap or circle hook. It keeps the bait just off the bottom if I’m trolling through weed.
