  1. There is a few wharfs around Sydney that could do with a few of these glued to the railings ...
  2. I had a paternoster rig setup with 2 dropper hooks, line starts with a tap tap ... pick up the rod and strike, massive weight! Start cranking and winding .. my mate says "Its just a snag!" So i hold the rod dead still and feel tap tap tap, still on ... keep cranking. Long story short, I have a pinkie on one hook and a 1m sunken tree LOG on the other. The log kept rolling back down a drop off taking line
  3. If you are not familiar with the area, Wanda is the beach between Boat Harbour and South Cronulla. South Cronulla is near the grassy family area with lots of people shops and Cafes. Wanda there is the Surf life saving club and the restaurant. There is normally a gutter in from of the surf club to the right. I have fished Wanda, Boat harbour and South cronulla. I got my PB tarwhine off the beach at South Cronulla at night but beware there is a snag in the middle of the beach there. Lost a good fish to it! All produce fish just try and get there the afternoon before a morning session or in the afternoon before a night session to look for a good gutter.
  4. Love the new reel-in-the-sand protector! Are you using berley?
  5. Never try to stab a fish in the head with wet / slippery hands ...
  6. If you zoom in on the photo you can see the lure. Looks like a frenzy shallow 1 - 3m. Did you get it on the rocks?
  7. This is a great topic - Lots of good info here. How far out from the back of the boat should you troll them ? Also - is there any point cubing pilchards and doing big circles to attract fish to the area you are trolling ??
  8. Just drift along the sand infront of the novotel all the way across to the opening where the bay turns into the Georges. Always have a soft plastic out on a spare rod jjust bouncing along the bottom - good luck!
  9. Hahahaha we all have one of "those" mates
  10. Do you catch your own squid? If you do, in the fridge overnight and use it the following day. The fresher the better. If you are fishing in the georges, try and catch some live prawns along the sandy banks and throw one out live. Have you read the jewfish tactics thread?
  11. Get yourself a milkshake maker shaker cup - put a bit of bread it in and shake it like crazy - you end up with a sloppy mess of bready water .. pour it bit by bit into the water to get the yakkas to the surface - then drop in a sabiki rig with a tiny bit of prawn on each little hook. The smaller the hook the better I find - you dont need to strike - when you feel them on the line just lift the rod slightly and they hook themselves most of the time. If the prawn is bigger than a pea it is too big. Any wharf will hold yakkas
  12. What hooks have you got on the knife jigs ? That might be causing issues too ..
  13. That raises an interesting question ... if you are reeling in an undersize fish that would be illegal to use as live bait, e.g: an undersize whiting. And something bigger takes a bite of it and kills it - can you then use it as bait legally ? Or are you legally obligated to throw the remains back into the water ?
  14. Awesome fish from land based! Any tricks to getting your bait out far enough to be in snapper territory ? or do you have an enormous cast ?
  15. Thanks fisholb, My reel is actually an 8000 loaded with 40lb power pro. My mistake. Im keen to have a crack at spinning!
  16. Can anyone recommend some rocks around Sydney worth trying? I'm usually more of a beach / boat angler but would love to try spinning off some rocks! Anyone heading out this weekend for a spin? I know hill 60 is the bonito spot to be but its a bit of a hike
  17. Exactly how far do you need to be casting metals / squid skirts / floats with squid skirts behind them? Would a 4000 reel with a 10 foot 8 - 12 kilo rod do the trick?
  18. Next time throw out a tiny hook under a bobby cork float with a tiny ball of bread, catch a mullet and send it out under a float live
  19. What a monster! What rig do you use for a livie in the surf?? Sinker/no sinker? Big single circle hook in the back?
  20. Wow! That is awesome. You caught jewies on those deep diving lures? I thought they were for trolling behind a boat!? Can you share some of your skills? Do you cast them out and crank them back in as fast as you can? Any tips for casting them? They are pretty light so I imagine you couldnt cast them too far? Sorry for all the questions - just amazed!
  21. If you park in Emerald st and walk straight down to the water there is usually a gutter there. If your bait is washing to the side you are usually in a bit of a rip that is sucking out to one side, try moving in the direction it is sucking and try fishing where it stops moving. You want a little bit of movement so the bait looks natural.
  22. Awesome report and what a monster! What sort of technique were you using with the plastic to get the jews attention ?
  23. Very interesting information there. Plus the big high tide tomorrow morning is just a little after sunrise. I reckon tomorrow on a beach will be a weapon of a day to be fishing
  24. I use this knot for everything I found it by searching for "blood knot" but I dont know if that is the real name of it .. Has never failed me. I've bent hooks on a big sting ray and the knot hasn't failed
