  1. i managed to raise a bronze whaler a few weeks back from my burley trail. They're about!
  2. Thanks Dan for the report. Well written and quite amusing to read. Congrats on the catch. It always fascinates me hearing reports of catching mulloway. Typically when fishing, if a bite is felt, tap, tap and starts running, i would give it a good strike even on the 2nd or third tap. However it seems with jews, you have to let it run for a good amount of time. I assume you're using a circle hook going off how you made the connection. My question is therefore, what is the most successful way of catching jews, specifically, when is it best to strike when using bait like squid or yakka.
  3. Was wondering where all the squid went, guess you answered my question. That is a ridiculous hot session! As you can guess everyone was struggling to find them.
  4. Yeah i know but i didnt have a phone with me and had nothing to take details down. I do feel slightly guilty but lets try and assume people are good and hopefully do the right thing.
  5. Eyeing the weather reports during the week, excitment brewed as conditions were said to be very good, 1 meter swell with light winds. Combined with positive reports and the end of summer nearing, my hopes were up! I want to get some kings or some dollies. So picked up my mate at 4am and hit the water at Roseville ramp. The air was cool and pleasant, not surprising to see the ramp already with 3 other boaties. So while parking the trailer, i noticed this other person also doing the same, only difference was he didnt realise he was very close to a park car. While walking away i heard the screech of trailer touching the other car. By this time, the driver still doesnt know what he has done and by the time he realised, he was at least 1 meter into scratching this poor guys car. Anyways he comes out and again causes more damage to the car. anyways i'm not sure what to do, as the guy looked rough and i didnt want to cause issues, plus i didnt have camera with me etc. So i decided to head out and off to the spit for some squid, the place was already busy, and after spending 15 mins there i gave up only picking up a small squid. Tried clontart and other areas for zilch squid. Anyways the sun is now peaking its way through and i thought i'll pick up some livies. Burleyed up and found yakkas, they were bit big and scored 2 slimies, pity couldnt get anymore. So off to Long reef and by this time it was around 8.30 tried squidding one last time before i head out just north head and around blues point for nothing again.. Did anyone find it hard to find squid? Anyways off to long reef with a few yakkas and slimies, soundedd some fish and dropped a livie down. Not soon after my line goes off but missed the bite! So signs were promising, conditions were nice, warm, water was blue and water temp was 24.1. I was probably about 2 kms out from shore and couldnt get anything else after spending a few hours there. Persisted over several spots and saw a few others out there but couldnt find them, and our morale was now down. I also gave up on the dollies too because my mate got sea sick...So frustrating especially when conditions were so good! Never mind, i feaded back and picked up 4 bonitos inside north of the harbour (watson) and also saw a small (1 meter) bronze whaler coming up the my burley trail of pilchard and old yakkas. I decided to hang a bait over it's nose and soon after it tempted the little critter and i was on, he leaped into the air and as soon as he landed his teeth just cut through my 30 pound leader which was expected. Oh well that was fun. While i was connected with the watson bonito, i saw 2 kings chasing my bonito and was great to see the bonito running for its life. Anyways i dropped a smaller bonito down (dead) after bringing in last one and they were gone. Thanks for the read... Sorry no photos
  6. Awesome, i should've had hit the 12 mile myself. Conditions were magic. Any body else with dollie action?
  7. Whats the story with the ban on crab nets/pods? Pretty hardcore using handline. But Brisbane water isnt so big so i guess plenty of places to crab.
  8. Good to see reports of legal inside the harbour.
  9. Was out with the misses, the plann was to go for a swim and enjoy the weather by having a fish and a dip at Pittwater. Arriving at the Rowland reserve I was taken back by the number of trailers and boaties, it was packed to the rim. This was around 10.30 am. So I managed to launch and decided to park on the shoulder of Pittwater road like many boaties were doing. My past experience indicates that this was a legitimate free option, I've seen cars and trailers parked there all day. Looking at the signs I made sure I stayed away from the no standing or stopping signs and so i thought i'm doing the right thing but I had my suspicion. So the day was marvellous, water is crystal clear and the breeze is welcoming and cool. First stop was off to the basin for a quick dip and lunch. I must add, the water was cold! it took my breathe away even though it was reading between 20 and 21 degrees. So I thought i'll troll an xrap and a deep diver. This way the misses was happy with the constant breeze and not too bothered by the heat. I trolled from Mackeral beach to Little Head - sounded some bait fish holding mid water along the way and something holding deep and with the beep of the sounder i was hopeful something would take one of the lures. The troll was pleasant, the conditions were awesome. Saw some guy casting at the front of Barrenjoey headland, but i didn't see him hookup. Anyways my effort yielded nothing. Oh well, i was hoping i get a stripey or something, the water did get slightly warmer too 22 degrees. Anyways not too disappointed - I zipped back to the ramp and called it a day. My suspicions were right, I went to get my car and only to find a fine for parking a long vehicle for longer than 1 hr on a busy road of something that's a $106 lost. This is the first time i decided to park on the road - maybe to avoid the busy parking and thought the saving of $20 for parking fee. How annoying! Anyways i guess a warning for all. Don't park on the shoulder of Pittwater road. So not a very productive day with fishing or luck with parking. Learn from my lesson and don't park out there. Cheers
  10. Mate I had the same thing occurring to me. It was annoying but luckily nothing happened to my lines. Don't get it, you're hugging the shore, there is like 200 meters of open water and yet they still want to come cruising up your noise. Oh well - no point in getting angry
  11. how you think you go with the predicted rain
  12. i saw these schools and they didnt take a soft plastic about 3 inch my mate was throwing at them. What was the size of King you got at the Zoo?
  13. If you dont mind me asking, what bait did the damage?
  14. I'm heading to Jervis bay this weekend at the caravan park. Wonder if it's flooded or affected by recent rains. Does anyone know?
  15. What did you do with that massive calamari?
  16. Hey raiders, any news on the legislation being put forward to not allow people to park their trailer boats on a street for longer than 3 months. I find it extremely silly when you move the boat while heading out fishing and come back and parking at similar spot. This affects me and probably a few raiders, just wondering if anyone had any more news on this front. Not a new topic but thought i get some insight on the topic. Cheers
  17. Hi all New to boat fishing, I like to hunt down big fish (who doesn't right) Anyways I have a 475, 50 hp 4 stroke, with a live well, and a small downrigger. I've yet to catch hoodlums, big jews, snappers of decent size, drummer etc. I have some luck in the past but would like to hone in the skills, hence this post. I don't like to have a massive crew, usually me and one other. I'm willing to take someone to show me the ropes. If you're keen please PM me your details, I live in Sydney metro about 20km from city. I like to go Sat mornings, my usual hunting ground are Sydney harbour and Pittwater. Cheers Sid
  18. How far is this reef? Would people care to share the name of the reef?
  19. HAHAHA thats a serious rod ... must be serious guns too to pull a boat with 4 LOL !
  20. Hi All With a wet weekend forecast, is anyone still going out? What's your strategies? From my last experience, it was a full moon, it was wet and i caught some breambos. So for me it was a good adventure, but must admit the rain is very annoying. I'll be interested to know whether anyone has any thoughts/strategies? Thanks
  21. Thanks guys, i have tried the free version of navionics but wasnt convinced. Have you actually used it? Meg i have a finder, just without gps function. Thanks for the input Sid
  22. Yeah looks like it's a matter of spending more time.. i dont have a GPS on my boat though, and havent figured a way to enter(not sure if you can) into iphone google maps gps co-ordinates. Last time i checked you couldnt so perhaps an investment in a GPS too.
  23. Hi all, So i've recently bought my boat, probably 2 months ago and have been going out every weekend as you expect. I love my boat, it's awesome but cant say about my fishing skills but was still great to get out and get away from the crowds of lbf. Launched at Bayview boat ramp around 9am, was lucky to get a clear run on the boat ramp. After launching i noticed a steady queue of boaters doing the same. The misses was with me and the father in-law had his cruiser in the water too. Plan was to drop the misses on the cruiser and i fished solo. The cruiser isnt setup for cruising, more like a luxury cruiser however i know they wanted to drop a line so i passed them my bream gear with some fresh prawns from local bait shop. So soon after dropping off the misses, my plans were to get into some kings. First stop tried getting some fresh squid, Tried around scotland island, around about 4 headlands and bays on the western side and yielded nothing. Where are the dam squid?!?!?!?! Getting desperate i thought the previous rain have drove the squid away so I thought i'll try around barenjoey and slowly worked towards the heads, the water was looking better and promising.. however after about 20 casts still nothing. So 2 hours has passed i decided to poke my head outside to have a peak. Saw a few boats out there and was just about to zip there to check it out until i got a phone call from the misses. (btw does anyone know whether there is a reef out there fairly close by?) Anyways misses was saying she was busted off by a king on prawns.... Hmmm so i quickly went over and tied behind the cruiser and threw a prawn in, stayed around for about 2 hrs for nothing but squires and a shovel nose shark. So the kings must of moved on. Anyways i've given up on the kings but i know there were fresh prawns so was going to soak them somewhere..By about 1pm, i notice some storm clouds brewing up. I quickly deployed the bimini and zipped up the covers..Anyways i figured i head east of pittwater to stay away from the storm. Anchored, i deployed some prawns. By this time the rain started to hit, hit really hard, was feeling lucky i had put the covers up and provided some protection. Anyways in the middle of the storm the bream rod starts to buckle, no idea what it was yet but had suspicion it may be another squire as it's all i seem to catch. Anyways bring it up and it was a bream. I was suprised, and finally a keeper. Whilst still bucketing down, the another rod buckles and up comes another bream. Wow now i'm really happy. I've been trying to find bream and almost given up. Thinking the big ones are too smart, they're not liking baits anymore etc. But luckily i was proven wrong and ended up catching 5 breambos and 2 whiting. I noticed the bites all occurred just before the tide change. Anyways by this time, the storm has passed and the bites stopped. Also noticed the bay was empty and water was calm. In amongs the breambos i managed to catch a yakka. Hmm it was a horse of a yakka about 24cm and thought his too big for a livie so i stripped him up to only catch more yakkas. Anyways now with a few yaks i thought i troll these on the way back to the ramp. Had a few touches but the yakka was gone.. hmm strange. Anyways tried again and trolled around clariville and again had a bounce no zzzz no connect.. hmm baffled. Called it a night and was happy to come home with some fish hope you enjoy the long winded report..
