  3. we were getting them a few months a go, casting 20g and 80g raider lures at the schools.. crank them in flat out until there right near the sufrace then pause for a split second and hang on!! the surface strikes were awesome.. good luck..
  4. nice boat mate, that gunnel is different to mine though, mine is the older style C section. i used marine ply and a shite load of stainles screws and bolts.. by the look of those pictures i think you should bring the deck right to the top of the gunnel which will give you more storage and a better field of view.. good luck.. stevo..
  5. hi guys, ive done it to my boat with great success so if you can post some pics of your boat and gunnel areas ill see if you can do the same thing.. cheers.. austral..

    Garfish

next you carefully cut away the ribcage bones on each side starting next to the back bone and work your way out. now with the backbone, have the fish laying belly up and cut along the backbone angling the knife so that it doesnt miss the meat/ backstrap area., it should be like a V shaped cut when you do both sides.. if all has gone to plan you should have 2 boneless fillets.. hope this helps, im planing to take some photos when i fillet the next catch..cheers..stevo..

    Garfish

hello, firstly youll need a really sharp knife and a rolling pin. after youve gutted the fish remove its head. place the gar on a cutting board with its stomach flaps open. then roll the rolling pin across its back but not to much force as you dont wont it squashed(the rolling pin is to help break the rip cage away from the backbone). next you
  10. hello all, i dusted off the electric motor on sunday arfternoon and planed to target a few flathead around st huberts is. and as usual when i mention going fishing the wind picks up to about 20kts. i threw some plastics around the narrow channel for zip, then tried up on the nearby flats for a couple of breamhits and a school of about 5-6 bream following my lure of the flat(the poppers will get dusted off next) so with the wind now picking up my other flathead spot was way to exposed so i changed lures to a shallow chubby and headed to another weed bed and after a few cast i managed to get a 27cm bream but that was about all for that area.. luckily before i left home i threw in some bread rolls in case the lures failed, so i headed over to the empire bay area and tied up to a lease pole. with the burley working i had some baits up on the flats and one rod for the mullet and garies. the bream and garfish were dinner on monday night, i have finally worked out how to totally debone a garfish and if i get some more soon ill try and take a few photos as i do it.. cheers..stevo..
  11. nice flatty mate, the boat looks the goods too. we'll have to take it for a run soon..
  12. thanks guys, i was useing 4lb line with an unweighted no6 hook, you can use a float with the bait near the surface but i prefer to fish with floating bread and watch them suck it of the surface.. austral..
  13. hello all, went for a fish this arternoon and after a failed flathead hunt i decided to fish my usual mullet spot. i set the bereley up and had thefish around in about half an hour. the mullet were quiet but the garfish were around in big numbers, all up 11 garfish and two mullet, plus plenty of dropped fish and missed hookups.. also got bitten of by some large tailor that were well and truly legal..
  14. hello, if you can see the bream on the weed beds you should be trying a hardbody. your setup sounds fine just keep casting and slways try with the wind behind you. and how old is your braid? it takes a while to loosen up and when it does it casts heaps better.. also got trions love em..good luck:1fishing1:
  15. a bit of swell isnt too bad its just the wind i hate, unless its over your shoulder..
