  1. Hi - Ideally you should have 1 x crank battery and 1 x deep cycle house battery... use the crank battery just for your engine starting and the deep cycle for all the lights, live bait tank pumps, chargers etc.. With the above setup you will never have to worry about draining your starting battery and getting stuck out in the water. Crank battery - Century 730 are aussie made and just $180.. with a 730 CCA rating - can start even the biggest outboard. A long and dependable warranty caps off a great battery. House battery - I would look at a 80 to 100ah Deep Cycle AGM battery at about $300 - $400. Stick with a brand name like Remco or AC Delco and these will provide dependable power for many years. Dont forget to get a proper smart charger.. I use Projecta Intelicharge 15a chargers @ $180 each for my 3 x boat batteries and these have been great. If you look around can find these for less than 1/2 the price of better know C-tek chargers at the same output power rating. Hope this helps Cheers Trung

    Sabiki Rods

Don't waste your time and money on these... as stated above.. its stiffer than a 37kg game rod with zero feel! To this the rods are way to heavy and too long! Use it once... sold it for $20!
  3. I use $2 spray can degreaser from any autoshop Spray on.. leave for 5 minutes, give it a light scrub... then finish with a quick rinse of water.. Cheap and works great! Give it a try Trung
  4. mmmmmmmm...how boring would all the reports be if we all used the same / similar format I for one do not really care about the rigs/bait/location/tide etc, you can pickup any Sydney fishing publication and you will get this same info over and over... I read the report for the the exact opposit ! For a laugh and the for stories. Everyone has a different way to express their outings... Here is some fish I caught the other day on some lures dhype
  5. Got it from a guy called Ray .. he operates an outdoor fish and camping chain
  6. So I was packing up some gear from a day out fishing with the wife and noticed how little stuff I actually need to wash now. Between the 2 of use we went through 9 lures and 4 out of the 6 rod/reels combos I took out. In the good old days there would be at least 8 rod/reels, box of sinkers, swivels, hooks and bags of smelly wet bait to look after when I arrived home. Catch more fish with less effort! I so don't miss bait fishing! Trung
  7. Nice! Thats a top fish. You look very happy!
  8. What happened to all those photos Luke/Aero Gard sent you of his boyfriend ? Heard you loved those !! hahahah... I'll sell them to you for $20.. they are proven to hold fish! Hey Tony Just tell your wife you will swing by the handbag shop after the fishing trip and I can assure you she will come along! I was actually fishing pretty much in your backyard!! ... maybe 5 minutes at most from the Oatley boat ramp on the Georges river.. plenty of fish ATM hitting the lures. My wife only fishes with lures and jigs.. she can't stand using bait! She must have had a FANTASIC instructor! Let me know when you are free and i'll show you around your own waterway!!! hahahah... Owner Cultiva Mira Shad.. very under rated lure.. cannot beat it in the Georges River flats... the green and orange colors are the way to go! @ $4.00 it will be cheaper to throw it in the grippers in the bin!
  9. So went to the outdoor fishing chain and found some nasty looking lip grips for a bargain price of $4.00. Had to try them out and asked the wife to come along to see if they are any good. Yup they work good.. Massive flat fish Lure taking weed fish A silver pest fish Ended up with some bream, flatties and the wife got a nice blackfish on a green hardbody lure! Un-lipped the fish and went home... test completed. Perfect afternoon Trung
  10. Next thing I know I'll see yourself and Ben pumping yabbies and fishing with servo pilchards!
  11. Luke - when are you taking up knitting ?
  12. Hey Raiders It seems like forever since my last post (marlin post?) and even longer since I had a fish with stewy(6 months?). Get a call late Thursday to have a fish in the upper Georges on Friday. Time to dust off the plastics gear ! Turns out we both still know how to catch fish! Just.... Jew , EP, Bream, flatties and whiting all found our lures. By the way... hard bodies suck b@llz... they don't work! Plastics and blades anytime! Good to catch up and have a fish. Thanks for a great morning stew! Trung
  13. Tony - fantastic catch and footage! All the better that you go it on spin gear... Bet you are still smiling.... Congrats buddy.. see you out wide from now! Trung
  14. Hey Quintrex480... told you we would get a marlin this summer !! How does marlin taste like? Very dry and course flesh... even when lightly grill... heaps better fish out there to chew on! How is your barcrusher purchase going? There is a great looking, fully decked out apache barcrusher going around for ATM - might be good for you? See you out there soon Trung
  15. Thanks for all the positive comments fellows.. still buzzing about the whole event even though it was a week ago!... the 30 minutes it took to boat the fish went past in a flash!. Was hoping to head out this weekend but the thunderstorms put a stop to that... aiming for next week now. If Pete get the Simrad sounder + 1KW tranny installed we should be able to jig some kings at the peak & 12 mile on our way out.... looking forward to that + another "stick face" ? hahahah one can only dream! BTW, marlin taste like sh1t! Trung
  16. Hey raiders It been a while since my last post and in that time my mate Pete purchased a brand new Pioneer Sportsfish 197 boat. The boat is still breaking in and had not been out on a real fishing trip yet. After going out many times in other people's boat and on numerous paid charters, pete and I were yet to hook and land a marlin in past 5 years... closest I have come was with brickman a few months earlier were I dropped a marlin Anyway, with Pete's boat only 1/2 setup ( no sounder, no outriggers, makeshift GPS!) we headed out Sunday morning with 1 x tiagra 50, 1 x tiagra 30 lrs, 2 x makaria 30 setups. Loaded up with yakkas in Botany Bay then headed north east towards the Peak and FADs and put out a spread of small to medium Pakula skirts. A little past the Peak we get a double hook up of fat strip tuna. Plenty of blood! Trolled for a few hours before heading south to the botany wide fad that as full of boats . Heaps of dollies but most were under. Dropped a few livies and got some better dollies. Few keepers Trolled toward Botany Bay heads as we were following a massive pod of dolphins and birds when pete shouted marlin marlin! A stripy had hit the long corner running the smallest of skirts on the small makaria 30 setup... zzzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzz oh yeah! I picked up the rod and passed it to pete has he has never fought a marlin before. Without any game fishing experience between us it was a very quick learning curve for the both of us.. the next 30min was fill with massive marlin runs, marlin chases with the boat, smiles, pumping hearts and plenty of "what do I do now!" question! But we managed The fish was about 2.5m long to the bottom lip and was about 85kg... great looking fish. We agreed a long time ago we would keep our first marlin. This was the first and will be last marlin we keep...tag and release from here. The fish did not go to waste as it feed 8 families + will mount the bill. The marlin took a tiny white 4inch skirt which matched all the tiny leatherjackets in its gut..the dolly was full of tiny jackets also!! The large skirts did not get touched all day! We were extremely happy and it was more the special as we did it together, with our own gear, a few kms out from our regular fishing spot and on the first outing. After over 5 years trying we finally did it - could have not asked for a better day! Thanks goes out to Gary from seriously stainless for giving us plenty of advice on game fishing over the past few months! Can see myself hanging up the flatty and kingfish rods for the next few months while the marlin and dollies are biting! See out there! Trung
  17. Put me down.. would love to learn how to catch a fish on a lure ....... its been that long!
  18. There is end supplies of flatties around towra flats all year round.. find the weed and sandy patches. Throw some plastics or large blades around and your are bound to get them... went out not too long ago and pull in 10 in less and 2 hours..
  19. For blue swimmers you can't beat the witches hat style traps.... heaps better than hoop or pots by far.. With witches hats the crabs do get a bit tangled but with some practice you can extract a crab rather quickly cheers Trung
  20. Amazing fish there - well done! Its great to see so many large flatties being pulled (as released!) from Botany Bay... Bet you are still smiling thinking back Cheers Trung
  21. I fish the bay a lot and find the A.R are not mature enough ATM to hold fish consistently.. You will have more luck with the established structures at Molli, the drums, the sticks , oil wharf and at watts reef etc. If you are after a feed it is hard to miss out at the Towra sand flats with small blades / plastics Hope this helps Cheers Trung
  22. hahahah - you see...even crabs will not even touch smelly salmon! Good luck next week and let us know how you went.
  23. Thanks Rob , im sure we will bump into each other again soon,, you been out much and had much success? Cheers Trung
  24. in my opinion, best crab bait in order: 1) whole fresh trumpeter whiting 2) fresh flatty frames and heads 3) fresh king fish frames and heads What I find NEVER works is bream frames... I have no success with these for some reason so have stopped using them! Also, for me the idea that old and smell bait is best just does not go... fresh is best even when it comes to catching crabs It will be interesting to see what other use or have success with Cheers Trung
