  1. HutchWilco do the smallest I could find... 10kg to 15kg PFD type 1 for about $100 . various places sell them My youngest daughter is 8 months now and 8.5kgs but it fits her. Hope this helps Dave
  2. Mate.... read the site rules.
  3. Well done mate. Seems to be plenty of Jewies about at the moment.
  4. Just wish I could catch squid on a regular basis Ray. Seems to be one a session with me.(And that tends to be a fluke).
  5. Great bit of info. Thanks Squidding is one of those types of fishing we all WANT to do but Like a lot of people, time is the constraint. We all want to get on the fish at the optimum time so I invariably have one squid and 10 yakkas in the livewell. Squid always gets the fish. If I spent a few sessions fishing only for squid, I think that wouldgive you the right info to get good bait on a regular basis.
  6. There was heaps around the moorings at Powder Hulk Bay at sunset on saturday.
  7. Yeah, 3 is definitely the go at the moment. Well done on the catch
  8. I had the same deal on saturday night. Really quiet at first, then started to fire up after midnight.Got 3 jews in the end. Dave.
  9. one more pic with scissors for COTM tho i may not enter as I won it last month .
  10. Hi All. After breaking my Jewie duck a few weeks ago, I thought I would give it another go last night. Onboard by 7pm with a mate to get a few yakkas at the mooring and managed a squid too. Off we went to the same area as last time. It was pretty quiet for the first hour or 2. I had the squid out and Kai had an unweighted pillie. 2 hours in and i got a take on the squid , but missed it and was left with a chewed up hood. We both then missed a few hook ups but eventually I got one on the fresh squid strip. 66cms at around midnight so we were both pretty happy. Dropped Kai off at the jetty at 1am as he had Sunday morning commitments but he had the fish so he was happy. I fished through the night and picked up 2 more Jews around the same size but I must have lost about 4 other good fish due to poor hook ups. I tried to get a bit of sleep but just as I was dozing off, the rod would go off again. I'm not complaining tho. Picked up another mate at 6am to try for a few Kings but to no avail. Back home by 9am. 3 Jews again. Might be my lucky number. Managed to get a few pics. Cheers All, Dave
  11. Good to see your reports again Ray. Seems to have been a while. Great catch , and great pics. What sort of phone? cos the pictures are really good. Dave
  12. I would say they have got to be good bait. Probably better than yakkas, especially if they were live.
  13. What a great start to your Jewfish career. I got my first one in Middle Harbour 2 weeks ago along with 2 more that night. And I'm very happy to say I just won Catch of the month for Oct with it, so get that entry in. Its a great fish.
  14. Persistence pays off. Welldone on a nice jew for anywhere, but brilliant for Pittwater.
  15. I agree. Pro fishing does not help the Hawksbury. My fishing has greatly improved since moving mooring from Pittwater to middle Harbour. It can't just be luck that at my first full on attempt to catch a Jew in Middle Harbour I got 3 good ones. While I had many overnighters around Flint and Steel and got nothing. Though it has to be said that we all at some point buy bait from tackle shops...where do we think that comes from? I just think it needs to be managed a bit better. Dave
  16. All the above , but i like to use small strips of squid as you generally don't have to re-bait. Also my favourite is a small longshank hook and a swivel just to get it down into the burley trail.
  17. Nice Fish mate. Good to hear the Kings have moved in to Longreef. Welsh Dave
  18. West Head, infront of the Pill Boxes(old gun emplacements) will always produce yakkas with a burley of bread and mashed up pillies.
  19. It wasn't the camera phone. They really were that colour. Quite stunning as the came up through the water column. Dave
  20. Cheers Mike. I was fishing in 23 metres at first out from the Port marker, then later, closer to shore. I have learned quite a few tips from reading your posts...thanks.
  21. Great report, and well done on the Jew. I used your report as inspiration for my session on Saturday ngt. It worked 3 good Jews It seems Middle harbour at ngt is the place to be. With tide and the right bait. Dave
  22. Hi all. Its a Middle Harbour Jew report again . Seems they are just going off there at the moment. I am no literary genius so I will just tell it as I saw it. I have caught most kinds of fish here since I moved here from Wales. Kings, Snapper, Bream, Flathead etc. But until last night, no Jewfish. I have been busted off on the beach, I even took a mate out in Middle harbour 2 weeks ago and he got his first one.But I was still a Jewie virgin. So, the plan was to go out on Middle Harbour on Saturday arvo with 2 mates and fish though the night for the elusive Mulloway .First hiccup .. mates pulled out at lunchtime. I decided to go on my own anyway. Onboard by 5.30pm and headed to Yeoland Point. Nothing much happening but I did pull up a squid on a pilchard intended for a flathead or Jew.First Livie I suppose. As it went dark i couldn't even get yakkas so I went back to the mooring in Powder Hulk and filled up the livebait tank. 8.30pnm and back to the spot. Dropped the now dead squid and within 2mins I was hearing the reel sing and I was on to my very first Jew. A couple of good runs and the big slab of silver was onboard. Not a monster but at 65cms, I was happy . It then went quiet for a while, then around about 10pm after a call from my Jew Guru boss, he said chuck an unweighted pillie in close to shore. Sure enough, 10mins later the reel goes off again. A little bigger this time and a much better fight. I'm running 30lb braid with 40lb florocarbon trace to a 2 hook snelled pilchard. He comes on board and my biggest problem is I have nobody with me to high5. I broke my PB!!! it's now at 68cms. I was getting tired now. Nothing was touching the live yakka, so I thought I would get some shuteye for an hour or so. But, just as I was dropping off, I heard my reel go off again And it was the unweighted Pillie again. Another solid fish again. Put in 2 runs but I never felt I may loose it. Got him over the side and he came in at 67cms. All things went quiet after 1am, ( and I slept). Awake at 4am to continue, but nothing happening. Maybe I wasn't focused as I had more than completed my mission. Pulled the pin at 7am, but VERY HAPPY. Main lesson learned for me was not to be too worried about chasing yakkas. But if you get a squid, that's a bonus bait. Pillies do OK. A few pics here . A bit tricky as I was on my own , then the wife took some with a milk container in them so I can enter COTM. Hope that qualifies as a container. Good hunting Fishraiders, my dinner was beautiful tonight. Dave By the way, it wasn't all smiles... I lost 2 good fish aswell
  23. I was on Middle Harbour this arvo fixing stuff on my boat with a line out , catching 23cm snapper while I worked. A beautiful afternoon .I wanted to stay....... I have an overnighter planned 2mrw but it sure looked "Jewlike" 2nght. I had to be home by 6pm to read stories to my daughter but i reckon the jews were out 2ngt. The story was cool tho. Hope they bite 2mrw ngt. Dave
  24. Hi Raiders, Do any of you know an easy test of a Quicksilver fuel gauge? I'm not sure if it's the gauge that's faulty or the sender in the fuel tank. It's off a Bertram so hopefully not the sender. It has 4 terminals at the back, one marked S and another marked G. Though only 3 were connected. The fault started a few weeks ago with the needle jumping around and now... nothing. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks, Dave
