  1. There will be mate. Submit it to admin. I did with my Atlantic Cod record.I caught it in the same area, wreck fishing off Plymouth. Thats a good Conger, did the skipper put you forward to join the British Conger club? it looks like it would qualify. Welsh Dave
  2. Hi All. Probably my own fault for leaving it onboard, but i went out for a fish yesterday and rowed out to the swing mooring only to find our cabin door forced and 5 or 6 various rods and a large tackle box gone. Only cheap gear but still, it sucks. So be aware... thieves are always about. Hope karma works in my favour and they get whats coming. Dave
  3. Mate, i bought one for my daughter for xmas when she was 9 months old. The brand is Hutchwilko. For 10-15kg. PDF 1. That was the smallest i could find. $90 from the usual marine warehouses. Its pretty bulky on her but she gets used to it. Dave
  4. Thanks Tuffy. Had a bit of a breakthrough today. I managed to split the so called unservicable, sealed unit. It was a bit tricky but now all i have to do is replace 2 o rings and an oil seal I think i might use a bit of sicaflex too. Hopefully that will sort out an otherwise expensive job. Dave
  5. Hi Raiders. This question may have been asked before as I believe its a common problem. The helm pump steering system on my Bertram has a small oil leak at the shaft. The pump is a Syten, made by Teleflex. Have any raiders had any experience with splitting the unit and replacing the seal? I ask because all the info I have found is that they are a discontinued pump and have to be replaced by a Seastar model, which means the whole system and that means $$$$$. Here's hoping, Dave
  6. I have a HDS5x. Just a sounder not a combo. Will this update improve mine? I have had it 2 yrs and not changed a thing.
  7. Thats the way I do it too. Got it from a Geoff Wilson book.It takes some practice but now i use it all the time. off boat and when beach fishing. Dave
  8. He should stick to acting.I really liked him in Soldier Soldier and Wire in the Blood. These were 2 shows (Dramas) that were made in the UK. Not sure if they aired over here as i was still over there then. As a fishing show, i like all the different locations BUT, i'm sorry...he is a big girls blouse. LOOK AT THAT!!!!! as he pulls in a 3lb trout. I was catching them that size when i was 8 yrs old. That said, better than the crap my watches. Dance this, cook that,Xwhatever, the list of cheap tv goes on. IFISH and ET get my vote any day. Welsh Dave
  9. HAHAHAHA!!!. I am so glad i am Welsh. This type of s##t is why i left that place. Only problem is ............ that sort of bullsh#t is getting worse here. WELSH Dave!!
  10. I have that one too. Found it very good when i was a newcomer to Sydney. Just general, solid info to give you a starting point. Then its all about hard work and tips from friends...Fishraider! Dave

    GPS maps

Hi Andrew, I have a Navman GPS unit and i don't have a map card.I got my marks from friends and off the web and the unit has a very basic map in it, so it meets my needs. However, if you are doing a lot of prospecting which i am doing now i think a good chart will help as it gives you a good idea of the grounds you are on or around(depths etc.). If you are just going to known marks then i dont think you need one. Saying that, the more you get out there and fish, the more you will want one. I will be buying one for mine as soon as i can afford it. Hope this helps. Dave
  12. Going out from Pittwater in the morning but probably wont go as far as Terrigal. How far is texas?. 7am start and probably hit West Reef and Flatty grounds. Didn't think the Kings were still around. Lets hope so. callsign Alchemy on VHF17. Good luck Dave
  13. Hi raiders. Weather forecast is great tomorrow and me a some mates are heading out at about 6am from Pittwater for a bit of fun. Has anyone any suggestions on where to go or, more to the point, what to target. I haven't taken the boat out for a while(i had a good beach session last saturday morning on the salmon)and was wondering which species are firing and on which tactics? We are thinking of West reef or the flathead grounds? Any ideas? Anyone else around? what is the Raider vhf channel? Dave I'll be in a 25 Bertram... aLCHEMY.
  14. Hi Raiders, I haven't managed to get out much lately but when I saw the weather this i couldn't resist a quick beach session. I got to Narrabeen at about 6.30am armed with a few pillies and yakkas that had been thawed and refrozen at least once or twice . Not much of a swell, a southwesterly and no surfers, so it looked pretty good. After 10 minutes..BANG! i get smashed by a nice Salmon. He goes off on a good run and i see him jump just on the other side of the breakers.A nice fight and i land a nice fish, about 65cm. This is the first time i have fished the beach in ages so i was glad i made the effort to get out of bed. I wasn't finished yet. Another 10mins later and i feel the tap tap..Bang. I'm on again God, I love catching salmon off the beach. They may not be good eating but they are great fun. This one puled and pulled. And jumped too.... Then he spat the hook Ah well, thats fishing. I didn't have to wait too long before i got hit again though. Another Salmon taking line off the reel. This time he was not getting off and was dragged up the beach after a good fight. A solid fish, in great condition. 2 more fish were landed making a total of 4 landed and 1 lost. All fish were released bar one which was given to a passer by for his lunch. I'm not a fan of eating salmon, but if anyone has a good recipe for them, feel free to reply. A beautiful morning on the beach and home by 9 o"clock for breakfast. There were a few other guys fishing along the beach too. Get out there and give it a go. I talked to someone and they said people had been catching salmon all along the beach all morning Think i will be back this evening. Dave
  15. Absolutely. Its been mentioned for days. Its not like there isn't safer places. I managed a couple of flathead at Narrabeen lake today.
  16. Yeah, West head always has yakkas. Early is best, but you could always try the south side of Barrenjoey head. Or i have had slimmies off Currawong with lots of burley. Dave
  17. I was infront of south Narrabeen surf club for 3 hrs on monday and got zero. Beautiful evening tho. dave
  18. I wade in near the cricket nets near the caravan park mostly. There are a few good drop offs there. I usually fish SPs for flathead, tho , if you can get nippers or poddies they will work well. There are plenty of other spots on the other side of the entrance too. Or on Wakehurst parkway. Dave
  19. Give Narrabeen Lake a go mate. Its been treating me pretty well lately. And it has lots of sheltered LB spots. Dave
  20. I've seen your reports Mike , so i'm sticking with your advice...A weekend in the pub. Fish next weekend.
  21. Got a couple of good flatties in a 10 min session at Patonga while the wife and freinds had lunch in the Pub Took the girls for a dayout on the boat and couldn't resist a quick throw.
  22. It makes a difference....As someone coming from the UK, its hard enough to find friends to even have a beer with.. then they tell you they hate fishing. At least with this site, the people you meet turn up on time on a saturday and sunday morning and speak the same language.............even if they are foriegn.. the language of fishing
  23. Yeah, at that time of night they should have have had PFDs on in a boat that size?????. But i heard the currents were strong, and if i had found a bouy i would have stayed there till sunrise, when you would easily be found. Just imagine how bad you would feel if you told your mate to swim for it and never saw him again. just my thoughts. Dave
