Its in the blood mate that what.... BUT- Inspiration takes many forms- for me its paying homage to my family roots I was taught to fish by my Dad and Grandfather they had the biggest influence in my life frm very young and I eternally greatful for them teaching me. From the simple things like locating a spot and fishing it regularly and you learn when it fires and when it doesnt- thats most of the fun IMHO some of the best spots are self discovered and fished solo Also get a buzz from catching my own bait and then using it to catch a feed (one of those things my grandfather taught me that I dont do often anough anymore lol).

I use Fins original PRT for 20/30/50lb braid for surf casting as I reckon Fireline is garbage in heavier breaking strains and too stuff with too much memory- but for lighter work on the beach I choose Fireline over anything else. Leaders I use Berkley Vanish for 20/14/12/10/8/6/4lb and use Jinkai and Black Magic for 30/40/50/80lb flouro and I STILL get busted off every outing! go figure!... A word of advice though ATM there are HUGE greenback Taylor around the beaches and they will pop you on anything under 30lb I got busted off on weekend several times on big thumper Taylor and Jew on 50lb braid and doubled 30lb flouro leader- IM upping my next outing to 40 and 50lb flouro as they make such short work of your leaders you should also make up spares prior to going out so you arent spending time retying all your terminal gear when the hoardes of thumpers come through. Taylor will remain in the area for the next 4-6weeks and this year they are bigger than any year Ive reported @ my spot which Ive fished for the last 7 or 8 years without fail every weekend. Thats a cracker of a Breambo Chris They sure give you a good run on 6/8lb @ that size- harbour and estuaries are loaded with them atm but they can be very hard to tempt without berley and ultra fresh bait. Now to nail a 50cm jobbie- thats a mission! (maybe FR could have a comp to see who can nail a 50cm Bream from Sydney Metro this season)... food for thought for the Mods/Admins Tight lines Anthony

Thanks Byron and Nathan for the replies- it was awesome to finally get the baitrunner screaming on a big fish for a change... was squealing like a pig @ one point I was thinking maybe my leader isnt quite up to the task- Im using Jinkai in 20/30lb and black magic in 40lb... I think I'll get some Ande pink in 50lb and give that a try, lol... surely I caanot keep getting busted on good fish every outing- seems to be the case... Whether im on LCR or georges or off the sand Im alwys getting busted big time- I guess it means Im doing something right- but maybe some part of my terminal gear is severely lacking... back to the drawing board I think and rethink leaders... Will try again next week same spot maybe get lucky- dropping tide is best so Ive worked out but really anytime after sunset/dark is when the big boyz cvome out to play- and they play hard and I occasionally win a few myself. Hit up Broken Bay this arvo with soem fresh mullet and squid in hope of a jew. First cast got a nice 30cm Breambo. 2nd cast Im watching as the rod goes DOWN and baitrunner is screaming ZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzZZZZZZZ...headshakes... ZZZzzzzzzZZZZ..... this is what I came for... He went right and I walked with him, after about 50m or so he stopped for more head shakes... I finally got some line back after 15mins he was washed over the first sand bar and into the adjoining gutter- another run ZZZzzzzZZZzzzz and then the leader parted! AAAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHH!!!!! there goes my jew gone! Quickly retie hook onto ehats left of leader and chuck back out. Yet another creaming run and I hook another goodun, this time leader parted as I was bout to beach the fish- def a jew could see the golden hues in the light from my lantern! NOT MY FREAKIN DAY!!!!! Put on a fresh leader paternosted 30lb with 3/0 suicide hooks and a big strip of mullet goes out into the yonder Wait for a few mins then rod goes berko again- 10minute fight a 65cm MONSTER Taylor beached- this is the biggest taylor ive ever caught from this location after fishing it for over 7yrs and Im stoked! ... I even got my bait and hook back after some surgery and into the sand to bleed out. Cast again and hook another Taylor- 1 nice 45cm landed safely. Bled him and all was peachy till the rain set in and wind howling well over 20knots as predicted! so I called it a night. A few piccies from the cleaning table on way home. Anth

Good work Bangus and son Nice haul there Sambo is a beast good catch they go hard love sambo's on light line mad hectic esp when the jump 4 or 5 times, magic stuff and to share with your son.... priceless...

Mate LB you are gonna be fairly limited to species you can chase- sure you have Hoodlum Kingies, Snapper, Pigs, blackfish and Jew, Sambo's and Greenback Taylor all around till mid-winter before things slow down too much in the rivers and foce many anglers to arm-chair tactics over a few tinnies, lol Hairtail are an good option but if you canot be arsed trying for jew due to long ovewrnighters and hours spent- well you got buckleys getting a haritail coz they are more elusive than the humble jewie. As others have mentioned Mullet might be a worthy option, or maybe you can go to the dark side and try natives like Cod, Barra, Grunter, Yellowbelly, Silverbelly and you could even go for some mud-suckers (carp- as we can all do with fewer of these pests in our systems) and they are great sport on any gear... only if you are catching Brembo's under 35cm... over 40cm you are in for one helluva tough battle on light gear and Ive been smoked by big bream over the years- im still yet to crack 50cm but its on my agenda... lol

Best berley is bread, chook pellets, pillie off cuts, prawn shells and salt water mush up and throw handfuls out every 20-30mins- if you want a strong attractant mix in a lid full of tuna oil you will be spot on the money fish wil come from far and wide for a mix like that- I sometimes add chicken and weet bix or bran into my berley depending on how much I need mixed per session- if I want to extend it further add more bread or to reduce or make it sink more add in more pellets and fish off-cuts For livies I use a sibiki jig and place tiny chunks of salted pillie in each hook Hope this helps Anthony

All year round I get lots of big Breambo's All on unweighted mullet strips on rising tide or just after turn of tide or on chicken breast and occasionally on yakka strips when I have them Berley is essential (bread and chook pellets works best IMHO) tip- fish close to cover and structure- bnest spots and old abandoned wharves the like to hide among the oysters covering those types of structure- the closer you can get to the structure the better your chances! Ive been catching bream to 45cm often for last 18months- with late autumn and early spring the best times- but winter bream are fatter, go harder and are more spirited fight on light gear! ... and the great things is winter means less crowds @ ya favourite spot- thast is unless you have found one of them nice secluded spots then it dont matter they are there all year round! Its not that the fish arent there or they change their diet- you just need to think outside ther box a little @ crowded places like that... You will find that the fish wont take standard offerings like pillies and squid coz every other bugger uses them- maybe a change in bait and tactics (that is fish closer to the structure and cover) to obtain the best results. Maybe try some unweighted fish baits or bread and berley with chook pellets and bread aswell, else you can try some other area there is lots of coastlline to explore- Ive not gone home fishless from that area in more than 4 years bro they are there and even in dead cold winter- I fish straight through all year 3-4 nights a week and I use unweighted fish strips for bait and berley with bread ALWAYS- when nI run out of fish for bait I switch to bread or if the fish are a bit finnicky- you should be able to see them sucking up the bread pieces- esp nights when its dead still you can see schools of big fat bream making a beeline for the berley trail- Hope this helps Anthony

+`1 for live yakkas and taylor (sorry I just dont think squid are that great a bait- I rather catch some live fish baits ans Ive fished for a long time both from the beaches and in estuaries with nothing ever caught on fresh squid except pesky undersized bream) I use the WIlson branded sibiki jigs and cut off the plastics stuff on them (I hate it dont catch anything never has over last 4 years I beenj using them) then I throw on strips of pillie and squid tentacles. I cut every 2nd one off so the gap between the hooks is doubled and you get less tangles as yakkas and bream will maike short work of them in real hurry unless they go straight into a live well or tank. bycatch could be flatties to 60cm, big taylor, bream and whiting. Even caught a big blue swimmer crab after NY this year on one Good luck mate Anthony

Thanks Byron for your kind words- I sent you a PM with my mobile number as I lost yours when I upgraded a couple of weeks ago, I was going to get it from Johnny but I forgot after a long day on the water and cleaning all those fish. ... def needed a afterwards and well deserved! IM definitely keen for a Hawkesbury River session and would be more than happy to come along and learn from the master- I'll be taking to Johnny in the next week or so maybe we can get one hapening sooner than later. IM off to Crowdy Head next weekend if weather is good going to get out for a bottom bash round the inshore reefs and bombies, esle will stick inside the Manning River and head up past the farmlets chas esome tasty flatties and hopefully some Whiting on nippers. Took my mate Johnny (aka Johnny_Doi) out on Georges River today in my tinnie After waking up to pissing down rain @ 4am and alarm set for 5:30 we finally launched around 6:30 @ picnic point We headed to the cliffs and watched some LB fishos get a couple legal bream but we werent lucky today. MSB decided to check in with us and after some advice on where I was ahchored we high tailed to another spot round the road bridge, rain set in and we found shelter under the bridge. berleyed for nada so we hit up a spot not far from the ramp where a shallow tributary enters- we sat on the drop off and berleyed again after the turn fo the tide fish started coming aboard Johnny got a keeper flattie and then I got some bream. This was to be the order of the day with the end result 9 bream from 28-33cm, 2 keeper flatties around 50cm and one lone 40cm taylor. both of us lost good fish after smoking runs on 15lb and one biteoff by another decent taylor. slow to start but the georges and I put on a good show for the runup off water round 4:30pm clean fish @ ramp then back to coast was def worth the 2hour trip from gosford down south into gods country- nice place great fishing & big thanks to Johnny for great company and a plce to crash last night- you are welcome on my tinnie anytime bro! Sorry didnt take any piccies today
