  1. Gotta love beginners luck! Thats a stonker bream.... nice and thick shouldered... Woulda given some curry to a first timer. Sounds like a great day, there are some great spots up Brissy Waters as long as you have a boat... Seen plenty of good flatties and school jew brought up from Paddy's... its a top spot... the oyster racks can be another good spot for big Bream around this time of year. Tight lines Anthony
  2. Thats a cracker Breambo mate Mmmm.... Tasty Bream... Well done a nice feed there. Tight lines Anthony

  6. Beautiful Jewies Pete and Roberta- well done! Tight lines Anthony
  7. Good work Cameron... outfishing the old man- Priceless! Maybe in a few more outings Dad will finally listen to ya and he might even get a few, lol... Some people take a bit more time to convince than others... Im sure Dad is proud as punch- I know I would be if my Josh was outfishin me, and Im expecting it to happen sooner rather than later. 8. Mate you'll need a minimum 10 foot light surf rod and a 4000 series reel to get you started- I reckon 8-12lb braid would be sufficient and use a good flourocarbon leader of around 6-10lb with a single long shank hook in size 6, 8 or 10. (you can buy pre-packed Whiting packs made by Gillies and they are pretty good value for what you get... hooks, sinkers, beads and swivels all in a handy little tackle box- I use the flathead ones for bait fishing around Lane Cove River and they are very good quality... just dont leave them open on the sand unless you want the hooks to rust quickly, lol) The BEST baits (as mentioned) are live beach and blood worms or pipies... Squid is also a good bait for Whiting in small 1cm wide strips around 5cm long. Use a rig so you have the sinker above the swivel attached to the mainline, and the leader length should be 1m MINIMUM but I like 1.5m, other good baits are live yabbies (pink nippers) and mussels... There are a few places that sell live Blood and Beach Worms but they are not cheap- you will get about 3 worms for around $10- and if the Whiting are "on the chew" they wont last long... bycatch will be Bream, Salmon, Trevally, Flatties and the odd taylor... If the swell is up or the current is running hard then you might need to up the sinker to a heavier one. I hope this helps in some small way. Tight lines Anthony
  9. ... Hence my reason to have the legal limit raised to the same as Kingfish (65cm) with reduced bag limits for ALL anglers.... with a MAX of 2 fish above 80cm... Mate there are plenty of Jewies around, I know blokes who get 3 or 4 an outing so its not like they are a rare catch, they're just around 65cm and under most of them... raising the size to 65cm means those who currently take 45-55cm models home will have to throw them back... and besides lets face reality here... mojority of the culprits who take undersized fish take them no matter what species they are... this ultimately means more bigger fish will be on offer longer term for anglers... makes perfect sense to me... I wasnt provokign thoughts, just going on my experience... its easy to get the jew in the 45-55cm bracket, and many of them if you fish the right areas- its the bigger ones that are more elusive and the most prized... think about it...
  10. Thats a BIG jump from the current legal limit for Jew... going from 45cm to 75cm I reckon is unrealistic... Current bag limits are 5 in total, with 2 over 70cm allowed per angler... Although I reckon increasing the legal limit is a great idea I reckon the legal limit SHOULD be 65cm same as Kingfish, with a bag limit of 4 with 2 ONLY over 75cm or even 80cm... Its hard eneough as it is to catch a jew over 80cm in most places in Sydney (most of the ones I know about are between 50cm and 75/80cm @ a stretch)... so increasing limit to 65cm and decreasing bag limit by one per angler to 4 in total makes far better sense... Ive been catching Jewies since I was a kid and there was no legal limit or bag limits back in the late 70's and early 80's- and they were around in bigger numbers then aswell... these days Im lucky yo hook a Jew let alone actally land one. just my 2bob worth Tight lines Anthony
  11. Thats def NOT a Bonnie... Its a Striped Tuna...

  14. Great lookin flatties and Bream buddy And ya first on a placcie- thats GOLD! Congrats you're hooked now there's no going back to dirty, smelly old servo bait... Tight lines Anthony
  15. Priceless mate- they're really fat bet they went the clappers on 4lb
  16. Yep... Thats a chopper Taylor- and they LOVE plastics... you are lucky you didnt lose all ya tails to them.. I wasted a full packet of Powerbait last week @ my local by the little %&^*ers... but they are great fun on light line. Tight lines Anthony
  17. A quiet word is all that is usually required, there's no need for any fisho (or any human) to be rude and abrupt, and to simply remove ones rod from a fixed position is a big NO NO! I would have gone ballistic on more ways than one if someone slammed my gear onto the rocks in such a fashion ... just down right disrespectful some people are... I completely understand how something like that turns a great morning enjoying some quiet time and a quiet flick into a bad mood... One day that person will do it to the wrong person and they wil get more than they ever bargained far... I like to call it karma... what goes around comes around... Sadly though I cannot offer advice but I cam completely empathize with the situation. I sincerely hope it doesnt happen again, but I suspect this person is "just like that" and will continue to behave is such a manner till they are put in their place... hopefully sooner rather than later. Anthony
  18. Thats a good session ladies... Well done on getting a nice feed... ... Thats a ripper Sweep , we get them that size down South past Kiama and even though they're a bit bony they go OK on the plate if cooked nice and fresh Better luck next time on the Jewies Tight lines Anthony

  23. Itching to get out for a flick

  24. I wouldnt be taking a 3.95m tinnie offshore, but around the heads would be OK on a nice calm day- plenty of Bonnies, Trevs, taylor, sambo's and if ya lucky you might get a Kingie amongst the general bread'n'butter species. Me and one of my mates tried to get out past the heads in a similar sized boat in a 1m swell and it was really uncomfortable + you have to navigate not only the swells, but also the other boat traffic... dead flat maybe... but I wouldnt recommend it... I reckon to get offshore even just past the heads a 5m is the MINIMUM I'd be taking out even on a good day, its just not worth risking the boaty and your own life, it dont take much for the swell to rise dramatically and then its too late once you are out there, you either race the front in... or risk being caught in the middle of it... either way your stuffed if it happens...
  25. G/W wacko! Your on fire mate! I saw a lizard like that one follow my bait up yesterday on LCR but wouldnt take bait nor a plastic... Saw a big Black bream do the same aswell, lol My mate bagged a nice 35cm Trev and I was plagues by choppers, I lost a whole bag of Powerbait on them Great piccies too would have loved to seen a footy sized Flounder, I havent seen one since I was about 12yo that size, plenty of mini's tho' lol Tight Lines Anthony
