  1. Hmmm, look's like slimies = kingie lollies, might be able to sleep in and give the early morning squidding a miss after reading your report's. Well done on the solo effort! Cheer's Rod.
  2. Congrat's that is one awesome jew in anyone's book. What a great crissy present, well done to the angler!
  3. It's great to hear that the masses of bait have turned up! The marlin and other predators wont be too far away. Doesn't seem too long ago that the purse seiners out of Ulladulla and surrounds had a proposal on the table to commercially harvest the slimies and cowanyoung for pet food. So glad that common sense prevailed for once.
  4. Sound's like one lucky dude! Gotta wonder about his choice of shirt though considering what he's been through!
  5. Hey mate I regularly keep squid and yakka's quite happily together in the bait tank. Strangely enough I find Arrow squid and southern calamari squid don't get on too well together. Wonder if anyone else has had this experience?
  6. Yeah Robbie, it's Dan Jekyll and Greg Hyde. Or is it Greg Jekyll and Dan Hyde? Juz kiddin guy's.
  7. Hey Warnie, When I used to fish on Mungral in SGFC, on the run out to the shelf we did the gold coin offering as well as the"rub the buddah" which involved rubbing the biggest beer gut on the boat. It was alway's Billy Wootons when he was on board! Later on when I had Tomahawk it was usually my beer gut they picked on. The other ritual when drifting for sharks was putting the INXS kick tape on and turning it up full blast, usually got us a hookup! Cheer's Rod.
  8. All I can say is what a bummer!
  9. Hey Zuluboy, pin your yakka's just below the dorsal fin and above the lateral line and they will swim around happily for hours. If you let the bobby cork slide on the leader and use a wind on leader of around 4metres you can use the joining knot as a stopper for the bobby cork and still be able to cast. Don't worry too much about them towing the float around I have alway's found a fiesty livie outfishes a half dead one any day. You can alway's take advantage of a breeze to keep your bait in the zone if one exists by using a balloon with a light breakoff instead of the bobby cork. Pin your squid through the tip of the hood and they will live for a good while. Tight lines, Rod.
  10. Hang in there Craig and the beakie's will come soon enough. All the little fin and mahi's are great practice and will stand you in good stead, once you break the hoodoo. Congrat's on breaking the 500 post milestone as well. Cheer's Rod.
  11. Nice fish Andrew, very well done. To all you other aspiring kingie anglers out there who wonder what busts you up on 15 & 24 kg braid; take note
  12. Dan, in the spirit of christmas speak TWAS a great day!!! Seeing a few people get well and truly dusted is a great thing to behold. Only sorry we didn't get back to the ramp earlier to meet Greg's new friend's, maybe we all could have given them some chrissy SPIRIT. Catch you soon, Rod.
  13. Hi Zuluboy, Nth harbour/Manly give's you heap's of chance's to get amongst a few good fish, especially with a small tinny. Get some livie's and try either off Quarantine point or around Dobroryd and you wont be disappointed with the kingies that inhabit these environs!
  14. Nice couple of soapies there Nudge. Jew's do have big mouth's but I would match the hook size up to the bait you are using at the time. You seem to have that sorted!! The key is using a strong hook not a huge hook, remember they have a big appetite, from beach worm's to sea mullet and everything in between. Match the hatch and you wont go too far wrong Cheer's Rod.
  15. At least you got a feed miller, well done! I'm heading out tomorrow at 3.00 so hopefully we will nail a few king's as well! I'm taking the cooker with eggs and bacon as well just to seal the deal, that should ensure pandemonium around serve up time.
  16. Sorry to hear about the bingle on the road! At least you got a nice feed of flatties They are my favourite eating fish! P.S your D/R bomb is still alive!!!! And still producing!
  17. Sound's like a great session there. Congrat's on your first kingi Spongy. Just wondering what size jig heads are you guy's using? Cheer's Rod.
  18. Hey Craig, Look's like you guy's had a great time Sunday. We did too. I had Dan from D&G onboard and we got a few rats as well after getting some of the smallest southern calamari's I have ever seen. They were almost going out the outlet on the bait tank! Dan got smoked by one better fish than the 60-70cm models; so there are a few better fish mixed in with them. We also had a JOKER annoy us by trolling a yakka so close that he managed to hookup our anchor rope and if that wasn't enough he then asked us if we would mind pulling our pick so he could retrieve his hook. You can imagine my response!!! Meeting XXXXholes is part and parcel of fishing the harbour on the weekends now unfortunately. Anyway catch you on the water sometime, cheer's Rod.
  19. I just hope for their families sake that they survive. I can't help but think that this is a really selfish and risky thing to do!
  20. Ah Stumpy, an oldie but a goodie!
  21. Hey Craig, I hope you did make it out today. We got all our fish around brown's in water bet 21.5 -22.0, we didn't find anything warmer. Don't know about the water temp theory; I have heard it many times and I know of longliners who search for the so called magic temp of 20* before setting their gear. I believe finding bait is more the key, we have caught fin trolling in water up to 25* and down to 19.5*. The waters in Hawaii and Fiji rarely get below 23* and up to 28* and these places hold heaps of fin and big fish at that. I'm sure other raiders will have their own opinions. Cheer's Rod.
  22. Hey I'm fishing on a boat on Sunday too; might see you there Dan, LOL!!!
  23. I've been watching the series, It's been very informative as well as entertaining.
  24. Congrat's that's one awesome fish I would love to score one that BIG.
  25. Hi Fishlexic, what temp did you get at Brown's ? It got up to 22* when we were out there. We didn't see any beakie action however there were heaps of dolphins and pilot whales working the area, no birds except muttons flying through. We did see some small dollies when we were cubing though. Sound's like it was a nice one you got. Good luck if you get out tomorrow. Cheer's Rod.
