  1. Excellent report well done guy's, I'm organising a trip out there as soon as this weather passes. Look's like you jagged a perfect day weather wise.
  2. I've never seen a catfish in MH before; this is a bad sign. Let's hope it doesn't become like the dreaded Hawkesbury!
  3. This map is much more concise and up to date than google earth. The pics are taken from a helicopter rather than space and are much clearer of Sydney anyway. Nice find hoge's!
  4. Jeeeze Jason your certainly making a guy envious!!! That new donk must be good luck. Congrat's on a top session, were you using southerns or arrows? Cheer's Rod.
  5. Excellent way to spend the day Jason. There's something very special about putting your kid onto his first of a species. Look's like conditions we're ideal, I can't wait to get better so I can get back out there myself. I'm starting to go a little at home! Cheer's Rod.

    Bullrout?

Also known as happy moments For obvious reasons!
  7. Mate I dont have the co-ords for the fad but it's still there. If you run out of broken bay on a NE heading you will find it. We trolled past it yesterday.
  8. I'd like to add blue groper. With these guy's you get low down unstoppable pulling power combined with the dirtiest fighters around.
  9. Hey mate nice dollie, The broken bay fad is definitely there, we trolled past it on the way back from the Norah canyons yesterday.
  10. Just a quick post, I fished sth norah canyons today with a mate who had access to a new 38 riv. Ran up from broken bay (83k's) and fished the southern canyons till 2.00pm with lures for only 1 little dollie and a half arsed striped marlin hit which took out the outrigger and pulled 20m off the 24kg stick without hooking up properly. We ended up doing 220Klm's on the gps by the time we got back to the RMYC. Lucky I didn't have to pay for fuel Thanx for a good day Bruce!
  11. Hey TXL, I also run a 717 humminbird and I have been very happy with it's performance. I use it in the harbour mainly for d/rigging and it shows up the bomb, bait, fish and structure really well. As zenman said it has a 5" screen and is backlit so even in the dark it's easy to read. I also have the GPS aerial which allows it to work as a plotter, handy for finding your favourite reefs at night. Good value for money if you ask me.
  12. On my humminbird 717 even at 60ft the 9lb bomb we use show's up no worries at 200khz. It does appear as a straight line. Try dropping your bomb on 50% sensitivity to 15 ft and slowly lower it you should be able to track it on the sounder until it disappears out of beam. Cheer's Rod.
  13. Just wondering if any thought has been given to rescheduling the kingie social? The next few months should be ideal while the water is still warm, and day's long.
  14. Well done Steve and Shane, it's good to see the little boats kicking arse! I'm glad that the old OUT THERE is still alive. I remember fishing along side you guy's many times, and the after point score days bar tab bashing. Good luck to you both. Cheer's Rod.
  15. Hard to say from the pic but it look's to me like a banjo ray.
  16. Dan it's good to kick your arse on the squid and kings once in a while, I think we're probably even now. LOL! See ya for round 2 sat. P.S that rod I lent you was my anti squid model.
  17. Don't you mean Bluefish point? Bluenose point's in the harbour. Nice pics though, I have fished there many times myself and am alway's in awe of the surroundings.
  18. We fished Fri for the same results as everyone else. We soaked 2 live squid and a live slimie for over 4 hrs in our usually productive spot X for zippo. We then bridled up the slimie and D/R him for another hour and ended up releasing him! Hardly any bait was seen on the sounder either, certainly a lot different to the last few weeks. Probably a good thing the kingie social was cancelled for this weekend otherwise there would have been a lot of dejected fishraiders around!
  19. I haven't seen her there for years, I believe they sold ages ago. Mind you It was a long time ago when she was a page 3 girl, I think your showing your age PJ.
  20. Hey Greg, in relation to some of your questions. I used to have a little game fisher, a 7.5m Savage ranger #####er with flybridge which we used primarily for gamefishing and overnighting. I took the inboard out and fitted a large pod to the back and ran twin 140hp yammies. The boat on flat water was capable of 45knts. Now without the weight of the inboard (the pod was bouyant enough that if it was to come off the boat it would easily support the weight of both motors). This had the effect of causing the hull to float approx 3" higher in the water meaning it was less stable at sea. I remiedied this problem by increasing the fuel cap to 500 litres and adding water bladders of 150lts each down each side of the hull below the cockpit floor. This made the hull sit back in the water again and with the pod increased the O/A length of the boat to 8.5 metres. Boat weight out of the water was now 4.2 tonnes. The difference the extra weight caused to the ride at sea was incredible, before adding all the extra ballast I was flat out doing 15 knts outside in good conditions i:e 1-1.5 m swell and 10knt breeze and after in the same conditions it would cruise easily at 20knts. Down wind and downswell with lots of trim you could squeeze 28 knts and still have a comfy ride. As soon as the conditions deteriorate, speed at sea has to be addressed i:e 15knts running in 20knts of NEaster and 2m + swell is comfortable. In my mates 46 Riv we can run back from Browns in a building 20 knt NEaster at 22 knts comfortably. I guess what I am trying to say here is that lighter trailer boats bounce over the sea and swell, the more weight the better, the hull displaces water and the water line length keeps the boat connected to the water. How fast you can safely go is totally reliant on these factors. Hope this helps, cheer's Rod. P.S love the 28 Luhrs, the large carolina flare is to die for!
  21. We fished yesterday and it was pretty messy beyond middle head. The swell was definetly building throughout the day. Ended up staying in MH which was quite comfortable.
  22. Ha ha ha, every new trailer boat owner can identify with this post!
  23. excellent fish dude! I can well believe it pulled your tinnie around, pound for pound nothing goes harder, congrat's on a great catch.
  24. Dan you Greg and Southerly deserve a medal for the keenest fishermen awards; hitting it on NYE with all the maniacs out there. Just goes to prove that the fish aren't put off with the boat traffic. Well done on your hookup's and bring on the kingie social. cheer's Rod.
  25. Hi Dave, we we're also out on Sunday. We hit the bait station early but only found 20.8 degrees so decided to continue to run east for another 18 Nm until we got to 23deg, dropped the lures in and changed to a NE heading, the water got warmer up to 24 and then we turned nth and followed a nice current line. Found a few birds working flying fish but generally the water looked quite lifeless. Off Avalon and 42Nm east we found some melon head whales and a few more birds but still didn't turn a reel. Continued trolling Nth. The highlight of the day except for the company and BS stories was a big mako free jumping. We got ended up running back to Sydney from just inside the shelf as the water had dropped back to 20.2 deg after doing 140 nm for the day! Still can't complain it beats working anyday! Cheer's Rod.
