i only use bait casters as my left arm is permanently in a sling. I currently keep 3 rods on my boat and they are all bait casters as i said. I use shiimano and ive got 2 Curado's and a Chronarch. I use them for throwing plastics, hard body's and also for squid.

squid, squid and more squid!

i prefer the natural colour squid jigs over the bright fluro colours. My favourite is the Blue Yamashita 3.5 followed by the browns, gold, silver etc

Frank last years Boat Show was also cancelled -
go with 105AH's mate, I run 2 with my 80lb motor guide and after camping for a week and slightly longer and using it a lot, ive never had them below 40%
-
yeah id stick with running 2 x 105AH AGM's as i do now. No need to go 130AH's and at the end of the day its only an extra 30kgs or so compared to the above.

Sandys beach and the horse is probably 2km up river from the foot bridge and RSL where you launch

Frank you can definitely get a 55lb 12v lecky with a 60" shaft. Both Motor Guide and Minn Kotor offer them and your 185ah battery will more than do the job.
-
nice mate i regularly fish the upper wonny and always launch at Bonnet Bay. How far from the needles were you getting them? Up past Sandys and the horse?

fair point frank but you have to think how much the bow comes up when outside etc. here is a photo of mine with the 60" shaft which is not really long enough
-
yeah i would be leaving it running for sure!

For your 485 Scorpion you would want at least a 60" shaft or even a 72" shaft. Im running a Motor Guide Xi5 80lb - 60" on my Horizon 485 Northerner and when outside the 60" shaft is not quite long enough. A 54"shaft would be no good on your savage thats for sure!!!

a little hard to fit a bow mount on that boat

Would an electric motor even work on this thing? Boat advice

Kingfish/ mulloway/ squid Sydney harbor how to catch

try the search function mate -
yeah i would be going either a Motor Guide or Minn Kota. You could get away with a 55lb but you will need the 60"shaft NOT the 54"

Yeah, live squid is the gun bait for the hacko

Apparently the down rigger bomb got stuck on the reef. Then a large wave came through and turned the boat over. It was a Surtees which offer old for new replacement warranty so a mate of mine (surtees dealer)actually had to go and retrieve it from the beach.

mate the tides dont matter for squid but they are easier to getearly morning or late arvo but you can still definitely catch them all throughout the day. I prefer 3.5 size jigs in the natural colours. I use the Yamashita Live jigs and my favourite colours are blue, purple, silver and gold. You can get them all the way along from the point near the marker at the nth end of jibbon beach all the way along towards the bommie. Salmon haul bay used to produce bit its a bit hit and miss these days. Hope this helps.

yeah just rip it up mate!

either Motor Guide or Minn Kota. You will need a 60" shaft so if you want to stick with a 12v motor (1 battery for the electric) i would go a 55lb with a 60" shaft. I have a 4.8m boat and im running a motor guide 80lb with a 60" shaft but being 80lb its a 24v motor meaning you need 2 batteries to run it.
