  1. Great to hear you enjoyed your trip and back into fishing. Look forward to reading more posts , keep up the good work Chris.
  2. Well deserved feed. Thats what i call dedication , hopefullly they are on the bite for a while for all to enjoy. Must of really been a good feeling seeing another raider holding up his catch , then to catch some yourself ( MISSION ACCOMPLISHED ). Enjoy Chris.
  3. Ella BillyD Thanks mate. I have to admit they're very tasty, the meat is nice and firm and easy to make souvlakia with. Tomorrow is going to be a big gathering, about 40 of us, so I'm sure we'll all enjoy eating them. Chris
  4. Hi Trung The slabs I used for these were approximately 4kg in weight. I was lucky enough to score 2 Mako's in the last month or so and I've been able to create different dishes. Chris
  5. The first time I made these I thought I made too much as it was only myself and my wife eating and I ended up make around 20 of them.....but you know what, we ended up eating them all. A vikings feed alright. Chris
  6. Have tried the Mako a few ways now with the two I have caught this year and this is my favourite way to eat it. VERY TASTY. Chris
  7. Great photo's definately nothing wrong with a cheapy camera.Sure is a superb part of the coast that you fish from up there chris
  8. Absolutely huge Just looking at the size makes my back ache. Great to see fish of that size swimming around keeps all our hopes high chris
  9. Hi Raiders Having a get together tomorrow with family and friends and they are looking forward to my Mako Souvlakia which I have told them all about Ingredients are: Mako Shark, green capsicum, onion, grape tomatoes and bacon all cut up into wedges and placed on skewer. I then drizzle the souvlakia with a marinated olive oil and garlic and leave in fridge overnight. All that is left is to cook on BBQ the next day. I found this to be an absolute beautiful way to eat Mako Shark as there is so much meat you get sick of always eating just plain fillets. A must try to all fisho's. Chris
  10. Tony lets plan a trip in the hacking and have some fun chris
  11. Tony don't forget we're all born inocent then we turn into either crazy fisherman , bull shit artists , couch potatoes , lemons , bludgers , etc etc etc. I,m glad to fit the crazy fisherman scene mate i don;t need an alarm because i just keep looking at the clock saying 1 more hour till my friend turns up and i don't think i could be any more happier . Good work on catching a feed mate and putting up with the ice cold wind i did the same and can't wait to get out and about again.Atleast the fish are co operating for our efforts. chris
  12. I would be guessing you were using light gear as there are some stonker jew in the system that will frustrate you if not prepared this time of the year. I,ve been done alot lately , on bream gear and it is over in under a minute. Wish the heavy gear got hit with the same hook up , they always seem to go on the light gear chris
  13. Hi james and welcome to the fishraider site. Keep going to the beach and don,t give up you will be rewarded. At budgewoi beach you can catch dart in close on prawns using paternoster rig , Late evening you can catch very good salmon and tailor using half pillies on paternoster rig just make sure the trace is 30lb or more as the tailor have razer sharp teeth , you can then put out a slab of tailor or salmon to try for a nice mulloway which is definately a good chance through the winter , just up the trace to suit , 50lb-80lb flurocabon + hook size to 10/0 beak hooks. Put on some green glow beads if doing late arvo trip trust me the strike rate triples if fish are on the bite. And like other raiders have said look for gutters , dark water areas this will be the best possible chance of hooking up GOOD LUCK chris.
  14. Hi stan, plenty on the bite in the hacking you should of checked out other options close by. All the boat ramps and surrounding rocks have great bream on offer even through winter, bad day fishing beats work though The boat ramp at the back of buraneer bay has done me proud in the day for good bream casting towards marina using live nippers hope this helps ,enjoy the rest of the week chris
  15. Hi jewgaffer, Fishing has been exceptional this season catching many species Iv'e never caught before . Spoke to a spear fisherman a few weeks back that had speared a 17kg jew off jibbon in the daytime, really good to see. Lets hope some of us raiders can catch and post such fish through the winter coming months. They were in abundance 4 years back in the hacking. My wife and I were out every night chasing them....total addicts....all caught on fresh live squid It was strange Sunday, not able to find a yellowtail for bait in the Hacking or along the ocean ledges??? What's your theory? Chris
  16. Thanks hodgey, I finally got my fishing friend to try flathead (blue spot) he loves them now as he's only eaten dusky flathead and he didn't like them, more for me . Can't wait to catch the blue nose bream this week my wife is converting me into a bream specialist as that's her favourite fish. Can't beat a home cooked meal FRESH FISH (YUMmm.) chris.
  17. Hi peter, Thanks for the reply Get out and get those flathead only one leatherjacket all day We couldn,t believe it. Although those leatherjacket nightmares aren,t far away couple of weeks and a temp drop they will be back thick as ever. chris
  18. Hi groper, Sounds like i must put it on the to try list. Only ever tried stripe tuna that way and YES it was 5 star. Was telling my mate to eat one for lunch raw as he left his lunch in the truck Good to hear they are tasty raw. Never scared to try different things sounds tasty chris
  19. Hi Raiders Was out and about today in search of some lovely flatheads for me and my friend. Headed down towards Garie Beach with a couple of lures out hoping to catch a few Bonito's on our way down so I can stock up on my Bream bait. Managed six by the time we got down to our drifting grounds. Once we reached the flathead grounds we did several drifts over the next few hours catching plenty of flatheads throughout the session. Alot were undersized but we managed a great feed for both our families. The seas were a bit lumpy but the fish were definately on today. On our stroll back up the coast we found a massive school of Salmon around Marley (boy we had some fun on that school). All in all it was a great day out Chris
  20. You sure know how to catch good sized mullet. I haven,t caught a mullet that size for a very long time, great work. That would of given a really good fight chris
  21. Great to tick another one off the list, seems to be a few in the system this year which is good to see. Thermals and rum++++++ HAIRTAIL . chris
  22. Jewfish don,t have any problem moving around in muddy brackish water , if you have a favourite upper river spot it,s worth the effort this week Low Moon and Large Tides Goodluck chris
  23. Good on you for getting out and about best way to enjoy an RDO Great work on the blue swimmer, should make for a really great feed NEw raider record chris.
  24. Nice catch. They are superb to eat if handled correctly from being caught , i made superb souvlakia from the one i caught last sunday , i put shark pieces , smokey bacon , capsicum , onion , tomatoe on the skewer then marinate in a crushed garlic oil for half hour , then put on the char grill the flavours were .
