  2. Thanks piratin, good to get the monkey off my back lets hope conditions are favourable to go trolling over coming weeks, congratulations on the stripe marlin, would love to hook that next as i would like to see one lit up out there. chris Hi peter it's so good to finally tackle with the marlin, last year i tried shellharbour area for nil and to finally tackle one on home turf is . Put the red fish on the aquarium fish ID on this site and boattart came up with what it is,a alfonsino i thought it was a nannygai oversized from the deep good to see another new species to put on fishraider. chris Thanks fishlexic,i was so amazed by the dancing it did all over the ocean would of been great to of had out of water shots to post,a third person with a camera would of been beaut. chris
  3. Was caught yesterday fishing deep sea North-East of Browns. Definately looks like a Nannagai. Just curious what other fishraiders have to say. Measured 48cm. Chris
  4. Hi Fishraiders, Went out yesterday with high hopes of catching a Marlin after reading Wacko's report. Hit the boat ramp at 5.30am. First stop was to gather some yellowtail and head off shore. We put some lures in Bates Bay and trolled up some stripe tuna which we were also going to use as bait. They were easy found and easy caught. We then went out to the Shelf and trolled for several hours with no results so we headed to Browns Mountain to break up the day and have a deep drop. There we caught Deep Sea Perch and a nice Nannagai (I think as it is huge....48cm). By now it was around 4pm and I really wanted to get my lures back on the move as I know afternoon fishing can be quite productive. We put a spread of 4 lures out and started to troll back, it wouldn't have been 5 minutes, the short left corner had a huge Marlin easily over the 100kg mark come up and take the lure. Being my first Marlin and having tried for 3 years it was a sight to see how they come up and ambush the lure First run was huge taking several hundred metres of line off the 50w while my friend was pulling in the other rods. He then chased the fish for me so I could get some line back on my reel. This fish really put on a show for us jumping in the air many, many times. In real life it's so much better and more fun than watching it on TV. After 1 hour we managed to get the fish 10m from the boat and then the hook snapped as seen in the photo attached (Black Magic pre-rigged lures and hooks). What are good hooks to replace these hooks????? I was shocked to see a hook of that quality fail but I was very happy to see my knots and equipment were up to the test. It wasn't a stripy as there was no stipes, I was leaning more towards a Blue Marlin as it was very blue in colour. VERY VERY happy at this stage as I finally got to fight a beast of the deep After getting over the high we set off again with our lures out and we wouldn't have gone for more that half an hour and the left hand long corner went off on the Lumo Lure as seen in the picture but we failed to hook this one up but we saw his head out of the water going for the lure. We then trolled for a short while more with no more strikes so decided to head back. We were back in the Hacking just after 8pm. My mate wanted to have a quick fish before going home where he hooked himself a soapie whereas I couldn't fish as I was still in shock at how good a day I had out there. Wish I could have more of these days but I know they are far and few between but memories are for life. Chris
  5. Great report, you guys would of had a ball, top blue eyes plenty of fillets to go round, mate when you go fishing you need a camera man to video the day thats for shore.I think fish magnet should be your new name.
  6. Good catch of stripies, they don,t rate highly as a bait for me but work great in the crab pots. I have eaten them raw cut thin in soy sauce & tobasco went down a treat YUMMMmmm. I have cut the upper section out and cut in small cubes and steamed or fried tastes ok,just take all dark meat off as it's not palatable. Last year i found the frames etc to be good in the berley pot to bring on the snapper GOOD LUCK on your next troll, you never know what is next on the lures. chris.
  7. Sounds like a great trip you all shared down there.Great catch for dinner, fresh fish all round YUMMMmm.That 4kg tailor would of been a good fish to beat for the comp as they are hard to come by. chris
  8. Thanks for the reply mate, well done on your 43cm whiting .

  14. Hi Fishraiders, Out and about last night with my brother, up from Captain Cook's Bridge. Decided to have a go at the Tailor being a full moon a couple of days ago. Hit the water about 9pm and stayed until 12.30am. It was a great night, no wind and great company. For the first hour it was very quiet and then I was onto a nice fish which I lost boat side as water police were coming up to me slowly and I wasn't sure who they were and I was more worried of them and who they were than my fish. Anyway, it's a good thing having them come over as they were checking safety gear and making sure we were all safe out there and doing the right thing The fishing hotted up as the tide changed. We managed to keep one fine Tailor which will be getting smoked at today's family BBQ and one Bream for my son Kieran (which I know looks small in the picture against my Tailor, but it was definately legal as you can see). Hope someone caught a Jewie last night as we witnessed a 20kg plus model ambush a Mullet on the Channel drop off in front of our eyes . I've only witnessed this a few times. It's amazing how Mulloway ambush their prey. I guess it pays to have a live bait under a float when fishing for Jew on full moon. I felt like fishing for Jew after seeing that. I definately had the right bait but not the rods to suit It was great to be out and about. Chris
  15. Yes,put glow light on float and go for it.Lots of fun they go well on small tackle

  21. Looks to be an enjoyable day out. Good to see you landing a few quality table fish.I love black fish EMMMM..... WELL DONE Chris.
  22. That goes with all fish when there feeding they will prefer large baits, but when they're not in feeding mode small baits work better. Just like when we're hungry at dinner time, you can eat a feast, but out of dinner time you won't say no to a biscuit but you will to another full meal. Having said that it's best to have both large and small baits out and you will soon work out a good pattern on the day Chris
  23. Got home from work last night and my son was after fish, he really likes his fish (he call's it "ish"). Felt like going for a crab session which I haven't done for a long time but keep talking about doing it, so off I went. My target was mainly crab with Bream on the menu for my little boy. Fishing area I decided on was Sans Souci, my target bait for the crab traps was cooked charcoal chicken in one trap and mullet head in the other trap. Deployed the pots around 7:00pm to 12:00pm. In the meantime I went off and did some fishing, heaps of fish in the main channel and drop off, pulling in snapper and bream all night keeping only the best one for my son, as we do. All up another great session scoring a nice feed of quality size blue swimmers and a lovely bream. Chris
  24. Frigate mack, very strong flavour if you eat it. Otherwise they are a supreme bait,Nice size.
