  1. do u reckon a 4000 is enough for livebaiting????
  2. Hey mate, I occassionally stay at a place at bar point which is a bit lower in the river but not much. There are plenty of bream, Whiting and flatties aswell as small tailor and flounder. With the crab pots i'd drop one near the bend in the river before the turn into spencer. Sorry the pictures pretty small Say you are headiing up river towards spencer and just before the river takes a sharp left there is a mangrove point. Should be plenty of crabs there if there on. Also down at milson island there are heeps of blue swimmers. Caught a few in WINTER while using hand lines. Milson is also a great spot for a fish with plenty of bream, whiting, tailor and flatties from what iv,e experienced. Off the north eastern point of milson island there is a sandy drop off with plenty of big fish around. good luck
  3. I'm just hiring a boat and hopefully getting a few livies. I've currently got a Daiwa 4000 4ing. It's a descent reel and might just withstand the kingies. i'm not sure how much drag or whatever it has but yeah.
  4. Hey guys, I am intersted in getting a new real for kingfish and maybe jews. At my local store they said the cheapest one is about $200 unless you want to get busted up big time. They were saying the Penn reals were very suitable. Is the cheapest i could get away with $200 or is that over reacting a bit????

The only problem is i dont have a boat at the moment so i will be hiring one and they dont have sounders and probably wont be allowed out to the pillboxes however, last time they let us go out as far as the heads. also, With the bread would you use the doe part of it or the crusty part??? i dont fish with bread often

    Pittwater

Hi all, i realise that i am probably posting way too often but anyway. This summer i would like to fish pittwater a bit. There are a few things that i need to know though. 1. Where and how to catch live bait for Kingies, flathead, jewies etc. 2.Good spots to fish. 3. Good trolling lures and spots. 4. For back up if the livies aren't playing then what baits are best. Basically i have two strong outfits and a lighter one for this sort of stuff. Would the way to go be use the light one for trolling and the other strong ones for bait fishing.
  9. Yeh, im a regular up there. we go up every year and mainly catch bream and flathead. Where did u get the jewies. i,m mainly landbased but it would be nice to know thanks
  10. Been to whale beach a few times and am yet to fish it though. seen some giants lost in the wash on the headlands and a nice salmon caught. Hoping for some info for later in the year.
  11. Hi all, i just got back from 10 days up on the sunshine coast. I just love it up there and the fishing is normally very good. First off we stayed in noosa for 5 nights. The weather wasn't great at all and this certainly affected the fishing. I was off to the doctor on the first afternoon and this turned out to be a bummer when i was told that it couldn't get wete for two weeks. This didn't stop me from fishing though. We had a big fat zero on the first attempt out at the mouth before getting a couple of tiny 12cm ish moses perch from behind the sheraton. We also landed an unexpected big mud crab which grabed the prawn as it was being lifted out of the water. We let him go because we didn't have many cooking facilities and are unsure of how to prepare them. Anyway next we tried the mouth again and this time we managed a 22 cm butter bream and a 25cm yellowfin bream. For tyhe next day we were booked in for a river fishing trip but the weather had other ideas. We only caught 1 20 cm bream and a very very small trumpeter. We didn't feel to bad because nothing much else was caught except a few undersize bream and flathead aswell as a big 1.5m shovelnose. I had been told that the fishing at night behind the shearaton was very productive so i gave it a go. No luck though i did get busted up by some monster bream. An finally on our last morning in noosa i got up very early and tried the sheraton again. Only a 25cm cod though. I was busted off buy a few rippers. Something nicked my rig and took about 10m of line in 3 seconds before snapping me off. i also brought in a 4 or 5 inch dohhh prawn on my baited hook. Chucked it on and flicked it under the bridge and first cast something bit grapped it and muscled me around for 10 seconds or so before i pulled the hooks on him. Main suspect was probably a monster jack. When we wre in coolum i only had one crack for about 45 min off the beach with the rsorts hire rods and worms but the well was too much and it was being pulled in closer by every wave. Very slow for noosa standards but there's always next time.
  12. Well i'm leaving at the crack of dawn on sunday and have sport duties tomorrow so i probably won't get the chance to get the 3 inch minnows but anyway. I'm not very experienced with sp so it shouldn't make a difference. At the mouth of the river would you think low tide or high tide would be best. At high tide there are loads of eddies and they attract just about everything. At low tide there are alot of shallow sandbars and this exposes a very deep channel that is about 25 m wide and about 5 meters deep. This is where the monster flatties will lurk. Any advice is very welcome
  13. Hi all, Im off to noosa in a couple of days and am planning on doing some sp fishing. I bought some 4 inch Berkley Gulp Minnows Yesterday and also Have 2 inch squidgy wrigglers and 2 inch squidgy fish. I will basically flick them around while the bait rod is in the water. Is 4 inch too big for flatties? There are some absolute giants up there. I havent had a trip up ther without a fish over 70cm with the biggest being 97cm caught on whitebait. The wrigglers are for the bream and whiting if they want to play. Will a jewie take a 4 inch or is that too small???
  14. Also at the moment apparenly there are trevs, queenies, tailor more busting up around the mouth. That's where ill bait fish from in my secret flattie spot but what SP would be the best up there. Also small metals for the pelagics.
  15. Hey mate, i dont fish pittwater heeps but the southern end of palm beach on the pittwater side is usaully less weedy and has a bit more fishy structure. Some family friends have a place on the water there and i always tell myslf to bring a rod next time. Apart from palm beach some good places to try are just south of west head for flatties, stokes point for snapper, bream, jackets, flatties, tailor and jewies and thee are some areas in the basin that hold big bream. good luck
  16. Hi Tony, If its flatties ur after then you shouldnt go past jimmy's beach. its near winda woppa and hawkesnest. its very sandy around there and there isnt much weed or rock. Flatties, Whiting and Bream tend to be the norm there. Bennetts beach at hawkesnest produceS Tailor, Bream, Mulloway, whiting and flatties. If you are needing to stay on the nelson bay side then around shoal bay there are a few flatties. Also the Nelson Bay marina breakwall has a few giants including jews, sharks and flatties just to name a few. Also there are alot of charters that go offshore to Broughton island. they get lots of flatties, snapper, trevs, jewies and much much more. most of these charters arent too expensive at all. Also if you hire a boat then come over and fish the mouth of the myall river near winda woppa. loads of fish there on a good day. Bream, flatties, jews, whiting and blackies shouldnt be far away. Good luck
  17. hi guys, ill probably go with either an Alvey Sidecast or just your average spin reel. How much would you reckon an alvey and rod would cost. are these suitable for rock fishing too. i would like to try maybe at whale beach in summer. seen a few sambos and other fish caught there. also where are some good beach spots in sydney. preferably the Northern beaches.
  18. Hi all, Never done much beach fishing but am hoping to change that. i am going to get a new outfit and get better before summer when i go up to haws nest. My goal is to get a jewie in Hawks nest over 80cm. If u can then tell me anything i need to know then that would be great.
  19. Hi guys, i go up to hawkesnest every summer and of course take a couple of rods with me. In summer the snapper fishing seems to be okay aswell as some good bream and flathead. Near Jimmy's beach the whiting are pretty thick and cant imagine that they wouldnt be up there at the moment. If its reef fishing you like then there are heaps of charters that leave most days of the week. I go out with the Argonaught which is hawks nest's deep sea and reef fishing charter. Lots of Snapper, Trevally,Flathead, nannygai and there are also alot of jewies down there. never got one though. If you are staying in Nelson bay or near by then you should try the breakwall at nelson bay. it is great for blackies, bream, jewies and squid. Also the mouth of the myall has good bream, flathead, whiting, jewies and much more. Good luck
  20. Just got emailed a few of the pics. plenty more to come though. just have to work out how to get em on
  21. Going in about 2 weeks. decided to just fish myself rather than with a day charter guide seeing ive just been to weipa. Any more tips that for the landbased angler in the river or rocks. preferably only light rocks without much swell because i dont have a rock fishing outfit at the moment. thanks
  22. Yeh ,good luck with the houseoats. we caught 14 different species all together and lost some other stonkers. Hope to hear of a few good catches when you get back
  23. Good luck up there. i hope you like the barra and jacks though because its really windy and if you are going with guides then you will have to probably convince them to take you outside. Anyway, are you a regular up there. if so when are the best times to fish weipa? I had such a great time up ther i am already planning next years trip.
  24. Yess, the water is certainly still cool but it shouldnt be too long before it warms up seeing that its almost spring again. This time of year is usually windy but you still did pretty well considering all. When you were at nth head was anyone trolling. Ive heard that the bonito and salmon are hanging around there and trolling has been quite successful.
