  1. Hey mate, I'm certainly no beach fishing expert but basically you need a rod of about 3-4 meters in length, A reel that can hold a decent amount of line and some star sinkers or bean sinkers that are heavy enough to keep you on the bottom. Beach worms are the go for whiting but otherwise things like pilchards and pippis will work well on other species. Also usually long shank hooks for the whiting. Your line should be quite light as you mentioned. Maybe 6 pound line. Good luck Tom
  2. Ok, Just have to wait till exams are over before i try. thanks:)
  3. Also, as i'm new to jewie fishing i was just wonderin what are some hotspots around the hawkesbury, sydney harbour and pittwater. When does the jewie season start and end or are they arond most of the time.
  4. Yeh, there are usually lights that are working there and during the day yakkas are plentiful but when you say pilchard do you mean ganged or just cut up bits? I reckon i'll have one rod out with either a livie or Ganged Pilchard and the other with a different bait like live prawns or nippers. Hopefully the fish will be around.
  5. Thanks, also say i couldn't get any yakkas or slimies what would be the next best bait for Jewies at Balmoral at night?????
  6. Yeh, i no its not for beach fishing but would you use the same rig for eg: Bar Pt on the Hawkesbury and Balmoral Wharf???
  7. Ok, does that apply for all sorts of livebaiting for Jewies?
  8. Yes, That's a very good point. Quite alot of areas near broughton island are sanctuary zones but Where they arent the fishing is still fantastic. good luck.
  9. Mate, Iv'e just been up to Weipa on the western side of cape york. The fishing is incredible. Theres everything from Barra and Jack fishing in the creeks to trolling for Big Spanish mackerel or reef fishing for coral trout. It's amazing up there and i couldn't stress that enough. The only problem is that the guides up there tend to stop fishing from December till March because it gets very hot up there. If you managed to get up there in november i would take a heep of sunscreen and protection. The fishing is incredible. If you can't get in November then it would be well worth waiting till April Next year.(April is one of the peek times to fish there. Check out a few of the websites like Weipa Sports fishing, Weipa fishing tours and charters and weipa fishing adventures. However, if you just want to steer a bit south of there then i agree that Port Douglas is pretty good if you are after the reefies especially. Anyway, just consider weipa for the trip of a lifetime. Minimum 4 days fishing if you ask me.
  10. What sort of rigs would you se for livebaiting with yakkas or squid for Jews???
  11. That's near Shoal Bay but just facing the ocean isn't it. Definitely give Broughton Island a go. Hopefully your report will be mostly positive as i'm goin up in January for a Week in Hawkesnest.
  12. I guess getting a kingie was a bit hopeful but what else is about at noght or late arfternoon there. I'd be happy to target Jews aswell.
  13. Hey Guys, I've fished off the wharf at Balmoral quite a few times but only managed small bream and flounder. Seen plenty of flathead and trevs caught too. I'm thinking of trying there at night soon. There are quite a few yakkas around there and Where there are Yakkas there are usually kings. I'll hopefully catch some yakkas and then have a couple out there for Kingies and jews etc. Any info or help would be great.
  14. Hey mate. This might sound stupid but what fish is the comp based on. eg: Bream and flathead- Jewfish and Kingfish???
  15. Hey mate, Where abouts in Port Stephens are you. If i were you i would fish onshore aswell near Jimmy's Beach for flatties, bream and whiting. Myall river for bream, whiting, flathead, tailor and jewfish too name a few. If you are on the south side then Nelson Bay break wall is great for jewies and bream. Offshore Broughton Island is the go. If you can get yourself a labeled map then try a few of these spots. Cod Rock: Mulloway and Kingfish on fresh or live bait. Coal Shaft Bay: usually a calm water bay with Flathead, Whiting, Snapper and a few kingfish around. North Rock: Snapper and Kingfish with a few bream and drummer present at times around the washes. Other offshore reefs from Port Stephens that are good are: Outer Boulders: Kingfish and Snapper. Tommy's: Mixed Reef fish eg: Snapper, teraglin, silver trevally and Morwong. The Sisters: Snapper, Bream, Tailor and Tarwhine near broughton. Once you tell me where you are based i can give u a heep more info. especially onshore.
