  1. any recommendations for a budget sounder for use in lakes and rivers that will show timber snags and standing trees?
  2. I am in the market for a new rod. It’s gotta be a shimano don’t even bother mentioning anything else It’s between these options Shimano 2015 Revolution Inshore Rods 702 ULSP or 732 ULSP Shimano Impact NXT Rods 763 NT Shimano Raider Rod 722 bream spin or 762 bream spin Any pros or cons of any of these models over each other or any other shimano rods better than these for what they do
  3. it was rough as guts out the front so I tucked in the north side just inside the bay. still enough white water and wash but protected from the worst of the wind and swell. this spot only fishes well for drummer when it is rough otherwise it's crowded with swimmers during summer
  4. 9 foot rod cheap egg beater(locked drag) 20lb braid 20lb leader 000 ball sinker 1/0 3x strong hook Yeah I was in a bay not out the front names billy not silly
  5. Went fishing Saturday lunch time eastern suburbs. A loaf of fresh bread for bait and stale old loaf and old crusts for burley. I caught about 10 undersize drummer a couple of kelpfish and 3 wrasse. Got bricked by a bigger fish and landed 2 keepers pic is the bigger one 46cm. I also caught a seagull which flew into the line as I cast out and a small blue fish the ones that live at Lord Howe Island. Both gull and blue fish released unharmed.

  8. I have the bio 5000 and goosa 10000 the bio is a greyhound and the goosa is a tank I wouldn't use the bio for jigging and hell not for 100g alan hawk say the only time you should buy a bio is if it is cheaper than a spheros, but I love mine bio is light weight high speed machine
  9. This is what alan hawk has to say As a general rule, long cast reels are the least durable of all spinning reels types. They are not built to last for long and they can't be as strong or have as much drag power as standard reels due to several elements, the most important of which is the extra length of the exposed part of the main shaft (more distance from force vector = greater bending moment). On the very top of the pack there are Shimano Aero Technium XSB and XTB, and near the top there are the Aero Technium XTC, XSC, and the Daiwa Tournament Surf 45-QD. The Shimanos have a super slow oscillation stroke where the spool goes a full cycle up and down every 25 turns of the handle, while the Daiwa has a quicker stroke of one full spool cycle per 4 handle turns only. All these reels are built in either metal or plastic or a combination, have different features and ergonomics including a "bait-runner" spool in some Shimanos, etc. Choosing between them is based on your needs for particular features that suit your fishing since there is virtually no difference in quality between them all. On the economy side Shimano Ultegra XTB and XSB stand out in build quality, and I rarely recommend any reels below that because their price is not prohibitive so there is no reason to go cheaper. The only exception to this is the Penn Spinfisher V LC (long cast), which I recommend in certain cases because it has the best protection against water intrusion among all long cast reels, including the expensive ones. It's not at all waterproof or fully sealed, but it remains better protected than other long cast reels. The reel is built to the same standard as the regular Spinfisher V reels, but while this falls short in the regular V reels it's adequate enough for the Spinfisher V LC since -as mentioned earlier- long cast reels have lower standards for strength and durability than regular spinners.
  10. wind doesn't cause wind knots. its loose packed line being peeled off early
  11. this is incorrect the second link you included states this at point No 2
  12. As the title sugests anyone know where I could buy this in Sydney?
  13. I don't think a skinny fish is perfect for sashimi. I would think the opposite is true. A healthy fat fish would be primo. Any skinny fish flesh would be lacking in flavour and probably poor texture as well. I'm still jealous though I threw my tackle box at the ocean on Sunday morning and didn't get a touch.
  14. I disagree it should be up to the individual to choose their own level of precaution/safety. Laws don’t fix stupid people, Darwin does.
  15. Trout and salmon flesh colour can fade or darken depending on its diet much like flamingos feathers. Indeed zoos feed captive flamingos colour enhanced food to keep them looking pink also. The show last night was more about environmental issues and business practices rather than nutritional food value or composition. If the only reason you don't eat salmon is because it contains an added food colouring do you eat anything else that does? I'm tipping 90% of processed food these days has some sort of added colouring either natural or artificial. I think you mean Australian salmon which are not a true salmonoid. Atlantic salmon is an all together different type of flesh and soooo much better.
  16. Fished with my dad at Eucumbene for the weekend. Stayed at Anglers Reach Lakeside Village (great place). Fished Friday arvo all Saturday (stopping for lunch and a hot cuppa back at the cabin) and Sunday Morning for 9 keepers a few throw backs and a few hits and misses/jump offs. We only trolled lures around the local area. Best lure was tassie devil #108 flat line. Dad caught this beast old school on a ford fender with tassie #45 in 7g Lots of fish being caught off the bank on worms by others. The weather was diverse. Sun, snow, wind and waves all represented. Lucky we caught some fish otherwise we'd have to have rocks in our head.
