  1. Thanks fellas , it really was epic , we probably had about 10 or so minutes of mayhem before he was in gaff range . I thought the gaff was going to pull out when I went to lift him . We didn't think it was that big at first , thought around 18 kg then we had him weighed a couple of times to be sure. I am sure that we have all hooked these beasts before a few times but they have always drilled us in the reef. This fish had rubbed off the skin on the side of its face. There must be a few of these around , getting bigger every year . Cheers
  2. Got him in around 20 mts
  3. Thanks guys , he was caught on a squid , long story about the fight and what happened but too long to post atm. Cuttlefish ink is good berley though , we gat another at 12 and one at 10 kg too. All happened so fast , they were definitely fired up.
  4. Just wanted to share this King a mate and I got on Friday, he went 26 kg and was 135 cm to the fork. Stoked to get such a good king at home .
  5. G'day Meg126 , Yeah these are Northern beaches fish , with the squid I find that the bigger the better , whole and live. I don't have a downrigger and not sure if you really need one. If you know where to look for kings then just sit at anchor with the baits at the right depth and the kings will find them 100%. Fish with a 2 hook rig and with your drag locked almost pliers tight , not kidding. All the best.
  6. Took a good mate out last week aiming to get our first kings for the season , managed to get a few squid then we hit our usual piece of reef and deployed our live squidlies , within about 10 minutes my mate grunts that he is on. I wound in and readied the gaff. He got a 10.55 kg off the bat , nice now he can relax. He waited about 30 mons , had a beer and gave me a chance to hook up. No good , I said to him to drop another squid , saying I bet you hook up straight away. Yep he did too , another about the same size. I was now getting anxious having seeing him land 2 good fish and me gaffing them too. Well it took about another 20 mins till I had a sudden bend in the rod and I was on , got him in the esky at about 9 kg. We had a crack for a bit longer before deciding to call it quits having enough fish and headed back to the ramp to clean up. Great arvo session , good to get one early and now ready to upsize. Looking for the 18 kg plus now.

    Rope splicers

Thanks Justin , The rope has an outer braid that is very fine and then on the inside is another rope that is much thicker. It looks hard to braid..

    Rope splicers

Thanks fishingphase , I am not sure if it could be cut off and spliced again as the fibres might have tightened too much bit it would be good if someone could look at it and let me know. If not then I will just try one of your knots, which one do you prefer ? Thanks mate

    Rope splicers

Hi All , I have double braid anchor rope which is unreal as any knot comes undone really easy and it lays very well in the boat. I also have a cut in the rope that needs to be repaired , do you know anyone who is able to repair this type of rope ? Cheers
  10. King all the way , I love them .
  11. well done mate , lets hope they hang around for a while and all their mates come down too.
  12. Hi All,I am going to be heading to the Sydney north fad tomorrow then looking around for traps.Pretty much just a look around and a exploratory troll as I haven't been there for months. Is anyone else going ? I will meet you out there.CheersBrad

  14. Roosterman , tell me about it , how did you get your fish ? ie trolling blindly or cubing or were they busting up on the surface ? I am soooo keen to get my first bluefin and appreciate any info given.Lookimng forward to your report mate. Brad
  15. No way , thats nuts ! Did you see the tuna or birds on the surface ? Or were you just trolling sprockets blindly ?
  16. Mate there is no problem finding the gutters there atm , after all the swell lately there is a huge gutter in the middle of the beach. Good luck

  18. Well there you go , I would have never thought to eat a stinky pike but I might give it a go. Have only ever used them for baits.
  19. Thanks everyone , much appreciated.
  20. Thanks Leo , I have read a few reviews on the nirey and all the reports were really good . As you said though they are a bit costly.I will post up what I go for soon. Thanks
  21. Thanks Roberta , Are those gerber ones good for a sloping heel ? My steel is practically smooth , it does an amazing job , but the knife has to have an edge. I know you love your knives (ha ha ) me too. Thanks alot Brad
  22. Thanks fellas , I will look at the knife shops and ask around , Leo I dont need a 2 or 3 stage sharpener cause I finish them off with a stone and steel combo to keep them razor. Thanks again Brad
  23. Hi All , I have quite a good collection of kitchen and filleting knives . I have had these for about 7 years now and have always used a good diamond stone and good steel to keep them super sharp , trouble is that they have lost their edge and need to be ground down a bit on the edges , what are you guys using ? I know that there are some good sharpeners that you "pull" the knife through but I dont know the best brands. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks
  24. Thanks Mako , When I do go to Browns I launch from little manly or roseville but I do want to try the waters east of palmy , I am in the process of getting a spread of lues targeted at yft so I can get out and troll around looking for signs of feeding fish. Its so hard starting out , giving it a go and hoping that you will come across fish. Where are the bait holding canyons north of palmy ? Thanks again for the feedback mate. Brad
