  1. Wow, nice fish there Merro.
  2. Well done mate, curious as to what depth of water?
  3. What the ????? You sure that's not a legless alligator? Outstanding, two thumbs up on the releases.
  4. Thanks Fryboy, much appreciated. Had missed this in my perusal. Beers, Lucky
  5. Thanks Fryboy, the best I could come up with was to ensure the map map datum was correct, which it is at WGS-84, and to clear any map shift, however the offset is still there. Do the chart databases go out of date on these things requiring a subscription?
  6. G'day Fishraiders, I'm having a problem with my Navman 5380. It seems to have it's position permanently offset to the north west by about 400 metres. I have completed a factory reset, but it didn't help. The unit came with a boat I just bought, but there is no manual with it. General tracking is accurate, just always offset by the same amount. Any ideas? Thanks, Lucky

    Which Fuel ?

Best to get hold of a manual for your engine, that will tell you if E10 is okay. For instance, my Suzuki 4 stroke, 2001 model is ok on E10. For the easy answer ring your local Yammie dealer. For the record, Ethanol fuel has a higher octane rating, lower calorific content and is more corrosive than normal unleaded. This means that an engine tuned to run on 100% ethanol would be more powerful but deliver slightly less fuel economy than an unleaded engine. Essentially the deal breaker for engines not designed for ethanol blends is the corrosion of the fuel system. Not a problem if your engine has been built to cope.
  8. So that was your #%*^¥€ prawn! Oh well it's not everyday you get yourself a fishing combo while diving

    Boat License

Well done Dusky, time now to get out and enjoy it. Looking forward to your catch reports.
  11. Great start with the new boat Topgun, agree with 'catch n release' well done on letting her go.
  12. Hi dominator4.3, my advice, do one of Scotty Lyons fishing schools. It's a bit of a drive from the north side, but the information is exactly what you need.
  13. Let's see, if you were allowed to keep 50% of every fine as a bounty, I wonder how many people would become a volunteer inspector. Quite a few I think. Or perhaps inspections could be outsourced to an organisation with a vested interest in the outcome, like Fishraider. Would take a bit of organising.
  14. Thanks for the support Fryboy, but you're the one who has come up with a way to achieve the figures. Open a new forum with the aim to come up with fishraider recommendations- great idea!
  15. Thanks everyone for the tailor feedback, I wonder how big a plastic fed tailor grows!
  16. Having never caught a Jewie, I can't comment on it, however I have recently caught a just legal snapper and a just legal flathead. After filleting them, it was surprising how little the fillets were compared to fish that were just a few centimetres bigger. In the future I won't be keeping smaller fish of these species even if they are 'legal'. Is it time that some seasoned heads within the Fishraider community got together and compiled some recommendations for both minimum sizes, bag limits, maximum sizes, etc independently of NSW fisheries? It might just show that we are pro-actively committed to sustainable fishing practices, and send an important message to certain special interest groups and officials.
  17. Hi there Scarp, I was a complete beginner as well until a couple of months ago, then I went to Scotty Lyons fishing school - it was exactly what I needed, good info and a practical day out in the boat. Now i catch fish most times I go out (got two trevally and a bream today). He's also a sponsor of this site for what it's worth.
  18. G'day all, managed to get out on the Hacking on Sunday for a few hours. At the first two stops got nothing, not even a bite, however had more luck at the next spot on the drift. Was soaking and drifting a ganged pillie, also had a nipper out, and was jagging along a soft plastic on the drift. Got nothing on the baits, then had an almighty whack on the sp followed by a couple more whacks then a hook up, had the fish on for about 30 seconds, then it was gone. Check out the damage it did to the sp! Tried another run through the same area, but got nothing. Moved to the next spot and got my first ever keeper snapper (ganged pillie), plus a few throw backs. Went out the next day for a quick session and got another sp hit in the same spot, but no hook up, however I did manage a nice 45cm trevally with a nipper on the drift. Me thinks the sp muncher was probably a tailor? Thanks for lookin.
