  1. Thats it... fills the 4000 sized reels perfectly.
  2. you guys should go in the Dave Irvine comp this year at coffs
  3. sunline super braid 5... PE2 colour coded 11.6kg... very happy with it.
  4. The water looked great out there today, Bad luck on the Blue... But nice to find one..
  5. My new Snapper combo arrived today. A Shimano Nano Px 5 - 10kg matched with a stradic Ci4+ 4000 sized reel. The weather looked great so i went on a Solo session to Longreef to see if i could find some Snaps. Well i wasn't disappointed! Plenty of nice reads on the sounder and managed some nice fish on plastics... Funnily, it was actually the first time i have taken my Poly up to Longreef as i usuallly fish other areas, It was strange being the only boat out there in perfect conditions. Happy Days... first fish on the new combo 41cm i think this guy was horny instead of hungry 52cm 63cm the biggest fish was landed on my Snapper slayer combo- black mamba, rarenium combo. 4 -7kg All fish were released to fight another day... Thats me hooked for winter...tight lines
  6. Nice work! That's the 7th big bull I've seen a picture of this season off Sydney. I guess the big bulls are a rare and prized catch considering the thousands of smaller dollies caught this season. Best Dollie season ever!
  7. How fast are you trolling roughly, and how far back is your spread? I find it tricky to troll in that 'sweat spot' in my Poly solo. always having to ride the throttle.
  8. strike hard when you initially get the hit, get them in as quick as possible, solid constant tension, dont lift their head over the water to avoid headshakes. swim them into the net. go hard with the drag, they wont slice you off.
  9. more solid fish from the poly! well done!
  10. Nice info about the yft, hopefully Sydney has a good season this year
  11. Great flattie and all the more rewarding on the plastic! Some big lizards lurk in Botany Bay but you need some luck to cross paths with them!
  12. Solid fish land based and a solid session, nice!
  13. Nice work, i was wondering how you got on over the weekend... it was too rough for us to head wide. nice flounder too. lures or bait and inside the port?
  14. Went for a quick trip to Port Stephens, managed 2 quick sessions inside the bay as the swell was pumping outside and the wind was blowing. day one, managed a few flatties on the plastics fishing structure. day 2 fished a bit harder, started with squid and cuttles in shoal bay, including a few big inkers, then soaked the cuttles on the salamander wreck for an hour in the hope of a jewie but only managed a wobbygong and a shovel nose. decided to try for a flounder to compliment the squid for dinner. so stopped at an area fellow member scratchie mentioned via PM and we were rewarded with 2 nice keeper reds and another big arrow squid for the keeper bag. My Gf, was keen to get her first keeper snapper on a plastic and it was nice to be surprised with one on the 2kg gear! managed a few other fish to keep us entertained and some fun sessions on a beautiful totally different waterway to fish than sydney. tight lines.
  15. Great fishing! one of those offshore days to be treasured.
  16. Some fun sessions mate! Love your new boat "dexter"! I sent you a few pics of your striped tuna. I'll get my first on the silly strong soon! Hopefully I'll get a marlin first though!
  17. Nice fishing, and nice selfie! so you got it on a weighted bait, sticking with the school of bait?
  18. Congratulations guys, Fantastic achievement and a fish many of us want to tick off our list. All the more special to do it on light tackle, with friends in you own boat. looks like nice conditions for the fight too. great pics.
  19. nice mixed bag. gotta love the diversity we get in the harbour
  20. I reckon planning a drift across browns mountain with a big whole southern calamari squid about 100ft off the bottom would be a start. use a breakaway style lead weight, and a quality led light in your rig. there are heaps of good articles on rigs and techniques from the usa and NZ. Also pump plenty of light into the water from you boat to attract, local deep water bait then use them as bait.
  21. Awesome! you need to tether the rod to the boy and boy to the boat! we've all been dragged over the gunnels buy big kings at some stage!
  22. Nice work on the whiting, I've started sight casting for them in 1 foot of water too. Using circle hooks and a tell-tale on the line.Always come home with a nice feed. Big ones too
  23. Agreed, I don't get out that wide very often. Otherwise it's too uncomfortable.
  24. It's a confidence thing. Know your boat, be safe have the safety gear nearby. It's actually calmer out wide to where I usually fish.
