    Your Final 8

I dislike these threads coz i always end up looking like a dope at the end of the season when 2/8 of my sides are in the semi's...... I can give many reasons why teams WONT win this year but cant give any reasons why a team WILL win this year that is why the comp will be close and exciting! good riddance for the salary cap! I said last year a heavyweight would win, i was right..... A darkhorse will win this year, not the year for the underdog...... Heres my 3 HEAVY: Broncos DARKHORSE: Knights UNDERDOG: Warriors
  7. Yeah mate Bombo for sure! i looked at the tides and high tide rolls in early mornings, i've been experimenting with different tides there. I fished low tide last for a poor day, it seems that place thrives during a high tide ( more shelter and cover i assume) the only concern with the high tide is that if conditions are a bit dodgy there have been some nice waves that have almost seen me in the drink.... ( i am the beer.... lol) early in the week the tide comes in between 2-4am and later in the week it comes in 4-7am. im not exactly sure about tides whether the time they give you is the peak for the tide, my experiments need to cover b4 and after the tide ( 2 hours each way), i've been there on 1st light once, which from memory wasnt that crash hot, my success usually comes between the 7-10am timeslot, then again i have never fished an afternoon/evening there which is on my to do list, so if theres early morning high tides then you'd assume the next high tide would be in the afternoon... Sorry for the thesis.... this trip ultimately depends in my success in gaining access to a fellow member's boat, as i probably dont have the funds to cover 2 fishing trips! ( getting a chance to catch a KINGY is my number 1 priority) Im always willing to hear stories and reports for Bombo, so if u have any goodens, let me know! Or as always if you know of another good spot in the region im willing to have a go. cheers ben, Ian
  8. As posted in the D&B section im looking at going out next week if i get no luck for a boat, i will be heading down to my usual haunt in Kiama off the stones.... anyone interested in joining need only to PM me cheers, Ian
  9. Saw that low tide was coming in around 8ish so we decided to go have a look and not need to dodge the waves which are synonomous with high tide..... arrived to absolutely perfect conditions, flat as no wind and no waves.... thought we were in with a good chance! No action 1st up which is rather unusual as i often land my first within 15-30mins, then all of a sudden we see baitfish busting up the surface.... it was literally bubbling, i threw my bait smack bang into the middle expecting instant hit.......nothing........ tried a metal that was prolly too large..again nothing...... these baifish stayed on the surface about 30-40m away from our faces for at least 2 hours, you could see the salmon chasing them but they just didnt want a bar..... Meanwhile my mate restored some pride by landing a nice trev, i thought we would get more after that and i gave up on the goodens.... but even the trevs went quiet! In the end we gave up with little to show, it was the first time i failed to leave without a bream too...but still a great day out regardless... the pics are some shots when we first arrived... it really is a picturesque place... Will go back again , but maybe on High tide in a bit rougher conditions... it was too good for the fish to bite... if u know what i mean! ( my mate couldnt grasp the concept of shelter etc) all the best anyway guys Ian.
  10. very nice! where was it caught and how was it caught is what most people will want to know...... sometimes the story is better than the picture
  11. Steamers beach as mentioned is in the Booderee Nat Pk, go through nowra and bout 10 mins past is the turn off left at Jervis Bay Rd, follow this for about 15 mins till you get to the pay station gates ($10 for the day) , from there head towards the township general store, but instead of turning left to go to the shop hang a right instead, the signposts will lead you the rest of the way, the dirt roads are well kept as is the walking track.... its a fair hike loaded up with gear and even worse coming back up with lots of fish, but always definately worth it. There are always bushwalkers around too so you wont get too lonely..... both the north and south platforms are worthwhile casting over the sand not the reefs, although the north ledge can be tricky at high tide. let me know if u end up going, i may well tag along esp when i just realised i have lost the tip!! thanks for your help anyways mondo! if you can PM me the details i just may well do it...... other that or i will try sand back the rod as much as possible and make do with it the best i can! thanks for your help mate
  12. So the key questions are: how much of the tip did you lose? and Is it a two-piece rod (as shimano may replace the top half for cheap $)? i lost a good 5cm , there is about 2cm remaining before the next guide....and it is only a 1 piece rod
  13. Sorry about the last post attempt my computer went nuts ....... As posted me and my best mate went down to Steamers Beach, a picturesque beach in the Booderee Nat Park in Jervis Bay. We arrived on site about 730am to be greeted by a beautiful fine day, no wind and some flat water, the best conditions i have had going there The day could not of started worse for me when upon laying my only rod down on the rocks and organising the bait i accidentally stepped on the tip....SNAP.... the expletitives out of my mouth would of made a prisoner blush... not to be deterred i fished with a broken rod....first cast....zzzzzzz im on to what feels like a good fish....and would you believe it my line is bitten off! As im re-rigging my mate yells out that he is on and pulls in a small salmon... we eventually hooked into his school and some fun, i decided to try a bit deeper and next thing BANG! my reel is losing line at a fast rate until..PING..... the knot tying my fireline to itself (after a spooling mishap) pops, losing another good fish and about 50m of fireline, by this stage i am ropable with my gear mishaps, so i cool off for a bit before going ultralight, then something unusual happened when a school of whiting came through and we pulled them in on pillies i am happy becoz i love whiting fillets but amazed that for only the 2nd time i have seen whiting caught on pillies... ( is this normal?) After they passed it went quiet, so me and my mate put some preseason training in on the adjoining beach followed by a dip in the water, we came back cleaned our catch and packed up and left earlier than planned... when we got home we cleaned up and played some good old backyard cricket.... ALL in all a fun (but frustrating) day! TOTAL CATCH - Salmon = 20+ (ranging from 45cm-30cm- the smallest i have seen there...) Whiting = 7 ( all around 35-38cm) and a few annoying rockfish.... ( we only kept the whiting) To anyone interested in Steamers Beach, it is a great spot where i have landed Tailor,Salmon,Bream,Flatties,Whiting and Drummer (all on pillies- thats all i fish with down there), it is a breezy 2.5 hr drive followed by a beautiful 30min scenic walk from the carpark thru the nat. park, it is a great workout and will guarantee a solid sleep afterwards!! the pics added are the 1st fish, the biggest whiting and a few scenery shots off the platform. Cheers All, Ian. P.S Is my Ian Miller light stick worth repairing the tip or should i cut my losses and buy a new rod (its out of warranty)
  14. went out with my mate to one of my fav spots, arrived at 0700 to beautiful day, no wind plenty of sun and calm waters, my mate pulled in a small but energetic salmon of about 40cm which was released to get bigger and fatter, after that we hooked into his school of similar size for the next hour or so, top fun on light gear, got busted off twice by 2 biggun's , after a while we decided to try closer to shore and my mate hooked a fat whiting just shy of 38cm should taste beaut later on when i cook it.... we contiunued to pull in the small salmon and the odd rockfish for annoyances, eventually we grew bored and decided to do some fitness work on the beach and had a bit of a dip, we returned back to find our spot off the rock plagued by seagulls and after hooking one and finding our bait had gone soggy and useless we headed home earlier than planned, got home played some cricket and thats about it. For those who dont know steamers its in the booderee nat. park and is a haven for fish, it has never disappointed although the bigguns are usually more prominent.... i have bagged salmon, tailor, bream, whiting, drummer and snapper here, its serenity cant be matched and if you enjoy a good work out the 30 min hike in and out on the trail will make sure you sleep well that night. good luck fisho's on the weekend, heres a few pics... Ian
  15. Headin out to JB for the day tomorrow, leaving 4am and will probably depart bout 2pm , leaving me with around 5 hours of great fishing, this spot has never let me down, i have had 3 cracker sessions and 2 quieter sessions, will give full detailed report later tomorrow night, hopefully with pics and all... not a reknown kingy spot but who knows...
  16. Good work on the lizards and even better on the near miss Ray...... lol keep em coming andrew! Ian
  17. Hi all im planning a trip to my number 1 all time spot for some LB action on pelagics this coming friday.... Is fishing after a solid rain any good or is the water clarity/ph levels etc no good for it... or simply does it not make much difference..... I will be fishing off rocks over a beach with a nearby reef...... what are your thoughts ? Cheers, Ian
  18. Well done mate , good job! nice to see the kings are there, i just may have to give old clifton another bash......

  22. you could not miss that gorilla!
  23. thanks thats some good advice. I am not and never have been a squid fan, i have never managed a catch with it, but if u know where to get the best fresh im keen to pay $$$ . LOL never had much luck on lures either........ I'll happily retire after i get A king....
  24. Headed down to Clifton to see what all the fuss was about, arrived at 5:30am to be greeted by 3 other fisho's and about 2000 mossies.... i was armed with some fresh squid purchased from the markets and some salted pilly's , the squid didnt get a look in by the fish and i ended up giving over half a kilo to the gent who was fishin wit me , the pilly's fared only slightly better with 2 undersize snapper. decided to hang to see if the turning tide would help but alas it didnt.... even tried livebaiting with some yakka's i caught which was a first! It was one of the quietest days i have ever had ( i saw 2 decent bream caught and a few smallies), the wind was quite strong and made life hard... but as we always say as fisherman " a bad days fishing is still better than a good days work". Till next time!
