  2. Here is a pike eel caught while on a nights jew fishing outing, ive lost count off how many of these we have landed. As you can see they are very similar .

    Reef Anchores

Hi Chris. Just a few comments i wanted to add to this topic. Firstly i think using this method is more to bring the anchor to the surface rather than actualy un stick it, altho it seems to get it of the bottom more times than not. Secondly if u have it tied to the front while motor ahead take it easy because sometimes if the anchor is stuck solid it will cause the front of your boat to dive and lurch sideways pretty volently. You can hook the rope the the back which seems safer to me execpt in a big swell. What do others think?
  7. Thanks Zod. I was keen to try do something myself as well hence why i was keen to see the instaled pics. looking forward to the lighting pics as well, are you going to use LED strip lights ? ty
  8. Yeah thats what i thought and hope is the issue. I drained some fuel and it didnt seem to even have that volitile smell petrol should have lol. Anyway thanks Gaz ill keep u posted. Anyone need some mower fuel , ive got 60litres here lol.
  9. Rather than start another thread ill just post my issue here. I try to run my boat every month or so as it hasnt been out for a while. Today when i ran it , it seemed to be running rough and also blowing a lot of smoke which didnt clear the whole 5 minuted it was going. Its an oil injected 50 hp mariner. The fuel is at least 12 months old, does that sound like the issue as it ran fine the last start. Apart from emptying the tank is there any additives to treat the dregs left which may be crook or contain water ?
  10. lol.. good stuff, you an i should go into business . But yeah if you buy wisely and spend some time on an old boat you can make a profit when you are ready to upgrade. Main thing is having a reliable donk and the rest can be tidied up.
  11. Hmmmm mixed questions.. Tinny or runabout.? I think an aluminium runabout( see dhypes above) is the way to go for several reasons, mainly because they are more inclosed and can be set up better for more relaxed fishing -day and night . You can add radio, stereo, sounder etc and store things more or less under cover aposed to an open tinny. Also they are more appealing to the wife and family for a general day out boating . And lastly i think steering from the front is also 100% better safety wise, so much can be missed trying to steer from the back such as shallow water and other boats etc. The harbour question ? Over 4 mtrs should be more than enough for the harbour BUT!!! a lot depends on where in the harbour and your experience. Around the harbour bridge area at busy times is a nightmare and more dangerous than the heads IMO regardless of your boat . Navigate carefully and venture out on good days and learn your boat and you should find a 4mtr will get u to anywhere within the harbour. The $6 ish... thats a bad sort of price range ive found , you either get a top notch real old model for the $5K mark or you have to jump up to the $10K mark for the bottom end of newer type models. So depends if u want a not so awesome looking oldy and a goody(-5k) or a nicer modern one that u may have to spend some bucks and time on(+5k)
  12. Buy a cheap tinny and work your way up. I bought my first boat for a grand and used it as well as painting and modernising it. When i was ready to upsize i sold it for 3500 . So be paiteint and shop wisely and it can pay off.
  13. Can you post up a pic when u have them installed in the boat as well. thanks
  14. Should perform a lot better at the correct 50:1 ratio as well
  15. Well done, ive spent weeks doing mine at home jacking up differant areas i wanted to fix. I redone everything i guess but would have been a lot less hassle if i launched it somewhere.

    SPEEDOMETER

If you are doing 8 knots against a 5 knot current you are doing an actual speed of 3knts , which is what you would be measured on.

    tow vehicle

Lol so true ,plus repair costs as everyone has eluded to. I have a rodeo which tows like there is nothing on the back
  18. maybe u can mount a 12volt bilge pump on the inside of the eskie or what ever you are going to use, and just mount it under the waterline so the water circulates an disturbs the surface( this provides the waters oxygen uptake) then run the pump of a 240v to 12v transformer inside the caravan area an just extend the lead on the low voltage side to run it to the bait tank..hope that made.sense
  19. Ps.. Let me know if u get stuck for LED lights , I may be able to get a hold of some for you.
  20. Hmmm what about a car stereo to listen to your favourite songs and footy games.. Go one further with a LED tv to watch while the fishing is quite . The ideas are endless ;-)
  21. Yep what Huey said about the adjustment is definately worth checking..id be booking it in somewhere because ive seen the damage to a gearbox when its had a fault jumping out and back into gear at high speed
  22. I use a cheapish Gernie which has a soap attachment.. Give it a good soap down then just water blast it off.. It really helps getting into all the hard spots on the trailer as well.
  23. Thanks Guys, I have a fuse box setup in place so ill just swap the power to that, an reverse the wiring on the switch for now.
