  1. What would they do in a service for that sort of price?
  2. Just wondering what would be considered as good compression for my Mariner 50 2 stroke?. Ive tested my engine and have 125 psi across all 3 cylinders. I couldnt find an actual recommended amount in the manual. Thanks

How much are u planning on spending ? You can get ppl to custom make one for about $450 onsite and generaly better quality. Pm me if u need a name of a company ive used.
  4. Is there a secret to making them last longer when they are frozen?
  5. I have ordered a service manual so ill start checking on a few more things once thats arrived.
  6. Hmmm could be ..it does blow a bit of smoke when it starts . Im not all that concerned about it as i can start it easy enough if I stick to my starting procedure and it runs fine after that but would be nice to have it working perfect. I do have to replace the low speed thermostat (I think its called that ) as I get alarm warning if I idle to long so I wonder if that would have any bearing on start up as well. I just keep doing all the easy bits and pieces and see if I can get any improvement. I do appreciate all the tips im getting as well. Sent from my GT-I9305T using Tapatalk 2
  7. Yeah it runs perfect after its warmed up . If im out on the water and restart it after an hour or 2 it will run and idle perfectly as well so it just seems the initial start up. Sent from my GT-I9305T using Tapatalk 2
  8. im not sure of the size but im just going off the manual . Sent from my GT-I9305T using Tapatalk 2
  9. Bugger !! Changed the plugs Tiles but I didnt have your luck It still runs the same. At least ive ruled that out. While im here I might ask if anyone can give me some advice on gear oil replacement. ive just changed it but the amount I drained and the amount I put back doesnt seem to be anywhere near the 450mls mentioned in the specs, I put in about 300 doing it correctly via the bottom hole up .? 12. HI Im having trouble trying to work out the year model of my outboard via the serial number. I believe it to be a 50hp 3cyl 93-95 vintage. The serial number is 0G160429 but seems a different number format to what I can find on the web. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks Gaz
  13. I have run it Tiles but havnt checked anything as yet.. Mine starts easy but will stall if I dont push the choke in every 5 seconds or so, it will run how ever if I raise the idle lever up quite high. After about 30 seconds it starts to run ok at normal idle speed and will start and run perfect for the rest of the day. I plan to at least change the plugs and see how it goes.
  14. Keep us posted Tiles, my motor has similar starting problems.
  15. Maybe like me they have a very narrow driveway making reversing extremely difficult
  16. Heres a couple . 1. A detactable berley bucket that comes of quick but is also solid enough to take all the pounding. 2. A quick cover that can be easily placed around an outboard leg when fishing to prevent constant lines tangling the prop.
  17. Im with GIO , from memory you need to put a value on the motor and the hull .. so if u set fire to your boat and the outboard remains intake you would need to find a replacement hull. Having an older boat I could see this as being a hassle should the worst happen

    tinny repairs

Yeah just any 2 pack poly filler will be fine. Just rough the surface a bit first and clean it with acetone or wax and grease remover. I prefer car panel fillers over builders bog or plasti bond altho they may very well be just the same stuff.
  19. My lovely newish cattledog pup decided chewing my favourite sandshoes wasnt enough and moved on to the cable leading into my hummingbird transducer. She didnt chew in a few inches above but right flush where it enters the epoxy filled unit. My question is has anyone attempted surgery on one of these to gain access to the wiring ? Im pretty handy with electronics so im happy to try . I think ill attack the epoxy with a dremmel and see what I can get to. Anyway im happy to hear from anyone on what they think
  20. Maybe you could approach the insurance company and ask for $1950 outboard repair cost be put toward a new outboard and you pay the dif . Least you will have peace of mind and a fair outcome for all involved. As for the serial and model you could try emailing the manufacturer , as ive done that in the past.
  21. Why do you want to pay that much for tiller steer ?
  22. For what its worth the last time i was checked all i showed was the purchase receipt of the life jacket and no inspection was made of the jacket and canister. I guess when its older then 12 months they may inspect it further to see if it has been serviced correctly.
  23. Hey Col. What channel were u monitoring when u heard the call ? And was it VHF or 27mhz . thanks
  24. Thats normal to get eractic readings while out of the water. If you place your ear near it you can also hear it pulsating which is a good indication it is working ok. Having it on for a minute here or there wouldnt hurt it so dont worry to much
