  8. hey guys, got to the place at low tide, nothing until 3:30 wen it changed to incoming tide. Then i thought maybe there was nothing, so i just tapped the tip of my rod, then all of a sudden it moved down by itself, tap tap TAP and im ON! It started off as a huge take, cuz it getting line out under the wharf, i was using 10lb fireline, 20lb mono trace, i had to actually 'pump and wind' this fish, because it alot of line under the wharf trying to snag me off the oysters, luckily i couldnt. After 6 or 7 runs, i really thought it was a small kingfish or surgeon fish, because i didnt feel any head shakes. When it surfaced i saw silver then i knew it was a trevally. It was a big one, 39cm w0o0o0 my new PB for trevallies. after that i used handline with prawns, got a yakka, tried live baiting it by hooking it through the nose but no take so i left at dusk.
  9. i got spiked by one and this guy fishing next to me told me it was poisonous, and he said i better go hospital. And then i thought i was gonna die, but then i told my friends i will be alright.
  10. how do u eat rock cods?! i mean i dont even wanna touch them due to all those spikes. do u skin them first?
  11. went fishing today in the harbour, started at low tide at 12pm. Fish till 4pm. landed one 32 cm trevally, lost something big off the pylon, it pulled drag for like 5 seconds then PING! gone, i wonder what it was? maybe a bigger trevally? burleyed with bread and tuna chunks. Used prawns.
  12. wow awesome post plastic_fantastic. The flatties are a pain in the ass, i just get sick of them after a while. Anyways when the water is shallow and if u're able to see them means they can see u, and they usually get spooked and swims away. Try not having ur shadow over the water next time. Were you at the very end of the bay? like sumwhere near the stormdrains? cuz i remember theres a little beach thing around there at low tide.
  13. rob! i'll see u around clifton on wednesday. Yeh those trevas are all around the harbour atm. dont u have pic of the trev u caught?
  14. best report i've read in a while. Thankyou for writing this jewgaffer. I went to balmoral today and all i caught was a yakka on handline with pilchard. The other crowd there caught trevallies and breams. Seems like the trevallies are in. balmoral gets so packed at that tiny wharf its not fun. I'll head over there on the weekday, anyone wanna come join me? gonna try lure some sambos.
  15. will do pmak, thanks for the advice! maybe if you go out next time gimme a yell, im free all week next week.
  16. soooo goood! How come when i work that area i never get a flattie. Did you go at low tide or something? Cause usually when i got i go around run out and its quite high. I use the 2" grub pumpkin seed and bloodworm.
  17. the fish there is in the danger zone of toxins. However i still eat one or two fish every 6months or so. I keep the ones that gets hooked deep and bleeding. thats just me. Um bait, but i usually lure there but it didnt want lures for some reason.
  18. it was also my pb at 33cm, its nothing big but beat my old pb by 1 cm. first time i've seen a bream fight that hard and take so much drag.
  19. excellent! what lure were you using? thats so mad, the water looks really shallow. Yeh its strange now, trevallies, jewies, kingies and now salmon are up this far in Iron cove! wow!
  20. so true, i used to catch crab and small puffer fish wen i was young and it shits and it makes the water really dirty and they eventually die. The crab that i had lasted for like 2 days. Cuz i left seaweed as food for it to eat but not knowing it needs to shit too.
  21. nice catch, that flattie's head looks more pointy than usual
  22. 65cm for a legal king instead of 60cm
