G'day throw me a fish Take yourself of to a beach or a rugby field. Take several weights with you. Attach weight and hold up rod with about 1 meter of line from the tip of the rod to the weight Give the rod a short sharp shake the weight should fall to the ground and the drum / spool should stop turning on the reel as the weight hits the ground Play with the drag settings to achieve this tension Now cast a bit not too hard at first You will need to learn to control the drum with your thumb This part will take time When you get good you can cast a long way with this method Hope this helps a bit cheers inhlanzi

Yarraone the Hawkesbury is not fishing well at the moment. You have to travel a long way to fish so rather go to the Harbour. It is a bit crowded but there are heaps more fish there. cheers inhlanzi

G'day Raiders Had an early morning start and headed out from Roseville. (Dodging rowers with minimal nav lighting!) Today we had the pleasure of Having GofishPete on board. Headed out to livie central and bagged enough jellybeans. Both the Skipper and I had a gut feeling for spot x and we headed straight there. Pretty soon the skipper was into a nice fish. We worked the strike today so everyone could have a go. All went quiet and then I got slammed by a slightly bigger model. He managed to take all three lines and the Skipper and Pete spent their time frantically cutting tangled lines. Legal no two in the ice box. Another big wait and it was Petes turn. Bang and hes on BUT up comes a tough little Samson. Would hate to know how their big brothers fight! Things got really quiet so we started a downrigging session. No sooner had the bomb gone down then wham - Skippers second Kingey for the day. Had to pull the pin at 11h30 and headed home. Three legal Kings and a Samson - Seriola Double! Thanks for a great day Skipper and for a fourth trip in a row scoring Kings! Pete it was good to have you out there with us good luck for the weekend. cheers inhlanzi

Here is my 2c worth I mainly fish the Hawkesbury / Cowan area. Lately I have been very lucky to get a few trips to the Harbour. Knocked out by the amount of fish. I have to say I was really quite shocked at the boat behavior on the Harbour. As JD said maybe there are blokes who have no idea and do some stupid things but I have seen a lot of blokes who know what they are doing pull their downriggers right through your "space" ( a few meters away) and you were there long before them. Conversely I have seen blokes downrigging an area for a while and then a few boats come in just drop anchor right in their fishing line. The harbour seems to be a free for all and muscle in at all costs. Try that on the Hberry and you will cop some. Now the sad part for me was - Ah well if you can't beat them join them. I found myself driving like a knob and doing stuff I would never normally do. This is a BAD mentality and not good for safety and enjoyment of the water. I reckon there needs to be a system or an etiquette of some sort or things are going to get out of hand. Here is an idea - How about we have bright (Dayglo) fishing flags "KINGISH", "Anchored", "Drifting", "Downrigging" or what ever that can be hoisted ( 0n a rod or ariel or outrigger ) and then this flag will let others know exactly what you are doing and to keep their distance - say 50m. Kind of same thing the divers have. Very hard to police I know but if we don't do something about it we are going to sh%$#T on our own doorstep making what should be a great day out a very ordinary one. I know in our little Jewie community on the Hawkesbury most of the blokes are very aware of the others and make sure they ask to anchor close by and usually most blokes are very co-operative. If they are not they soon get a few words of advice! I think downrigging is the main cause of the problem. I hope it's not too hectic on the social this weekend!! As I said my 2c cheers inhlanzi

G'day Fishraiders Having had a great day on Friday the skipper and I decided we should try our luck again...but we both had to be back by lunchtime. So shot out on Sat morning for a quick session. Every where we went there were a LOT of boats compared to the day before. The Kingfish Armada! At one point there were 12 boats at Balmoral!! We only did downrigging - squid one side, livie other. Travelled all over the bay to spots W,X,Y, and Z Sadly the fish were in hiding or elsewhere today. It seems slinkey and and a mate of mine were on the fish for an hour or so and then all went quiet. Did see some bonito being caught which was good. Caught a 30+ cm tailor which devoured one of the squid baits. We had to be back by 12 so it was all a bit of a rush BUT got a good hit and up came a nice Samson Fish (Seriola Hippo) Had him for lunch yesterday (beer batter) with some King from the other day. Interesting to see some folks liked the Sambo more than the Kingey!! Hey Kingfishercam Start off with some thick braid and a BIG hook. Learn to get the grip on the hook and the tension on the line right. Once you can work with the braid move to mono. I add a bit of olive oil or tuna oil to help the line slip and pull up easier. It is very hard to explain in words and even pictures or animatics. The best is to sit with someone who can tie knots well and lean by watching and doing! Hope this helps a bit cheers inhlanzi

Hello Majed Have a look at the SARCA anchor. Sand and Rock/Reef combination anchor Here is the URL for the Australian site http://www.anchorright.net/index.php?id=aus I bought a no 2 a while back and it has been really great. My boat is fibregalss 5.3m I used to use the normal sand anchors and a reef anchor. I now only use the SARCA but it is wise to always carry a spare. Go and have a look at their website and there is an excellent movie on the whole concept. I have no affiliation to this company whatsoever. Just a good and clever product well worth a mention. Gibofisho Have a good look at the Kluger it has a back door made for fishermen with boats. It opens up instead of sideways. When you reverse down the ramp or parking it you can see everything!! It will pull 1100 no worries Which model are you looking at? Cheers inhlanzi

G'day Kingfishercam This is more or less the rig for Yakkas - this can be used on a downrigger or a "poormans downrigger" or just dropped down or floated down to the school. Everybody has their own small changes but this is the main conept. Cheers inhlanzi
