G'day Dino I think you need to be very specific as to what kind and size of fish you want to catch and target it accordingly. I suggest one of the following Bream, Flathead, Kingfish, Salmon and Jewfish. Each species requires its own little tricks and techniques. The great joy of fishing is discovering what to use where and when and how. Living in Normanhurst you are very close to the Hawkesbury system. There are many excellent spots and species in the system. When you say decent catch what do you mean by that? What kind and how big? Start yourself a fishing journal or file and every time you learn something write it down. After a while you will learn what works and what doesn't. Be aware of: Tides, (time and size) Barometric pressure, (falling or rising) Wind, (direction and speed) Current, (direction and strength) Water colour, (clear or dirty) Temperature, Go through each part of your tackle and ask is it the right stuff for the job? Good fishos are good because they spend a lot of time, money and effort on their game. I wold suggest starting off by learning to catch baitfish ( yakkas, slimeys, tailor, mullet, yellowtail pike, garfish ) and squid. If you learn to do this well it will stand you in good stead for the bigguns. Good fresh bait is the key to catching fish. Research your tackle and buy quality that will last. I promise it will cost you less in the end. Ask good fishos what they use and why. Pretty soon you will get a good picture of what you will need. On this site there are experts and gurus in just about every species. Read their reports and don't be shy to ask them questions. Start off with a bait outfit and a medium outfit. Don't use too many rods. Read the "Articles" (top right on the menu bar) on this site by Ken and you will find just about all you need to get you going. And most important of all don't give up. That is a Pink Ling (Genypterus blacodes) or Kingklip One of the best eating fish in the sea. It is uncommon for fishmongers to show the fish whole ( always sold as fillets or cutlets ) as you would probably never eat it if you saw how ugly it looks. Hope you enjoyed the feed! cheers inhlanzi

Hey Nexus Sorry to hear about your demerit points. Have a go and challenge them you never know if you don't try. A mate of mine got done for DUI and got 2 and a half years suspension. He appealed and it was reduced to a year. Don't be shy to put your hand up for some one in your area to take you for a fish. Gday RayR I agree with what Jewgaffer says and I will add my 5c After a season I change my braid. During the season I will reverse the line so the good stuff at the bottom gets a turn at the top. I run 80 and 50 lb for Kings and Jewies. Much lighter for livies and squid. Fish on average twice a week so the braid takes quite a beating. Kings near the rocks do a lot of damage. I will also take he good middle bit at the end of the season and add it to another good bit from another reel and use it for a second season. Make a good neat double uni and coat it in superglue to join the two. The colour usually fades and and with all the dirty water it goes quite brown. I wash the line with fresh water after use. On a good sunny day at the right angle you will see the "fur" on the braid if it has taken a beating. Hope this helps cheers inhlanzi

You can't really call yourself a fisho till you have ... 1. launched the boat and left the bungs out 2. lost a rod and reel overboard 3. got the anchor rope caught in the prop 4. run out of fuel 5. left the bait in the eskie for a week 6. got a hook somewhere in your body 7. got smoked by a monster who knows what 8. left the boat strap on the boat tied to the trailer when launching 9. dropped the boat off the trailer on the boat ramp 10. cast a fully baited rig ( with sinker ) into another boat 11. hit a submerged log 12. got fishing line around the prop 13. got bitten by a tailor 14. got a birds nest on an overhead 15. got spiked by a yakka 16. tried to launch the boat with the safety chain still on 17. had a dead battery more than once 18. got to the ramp only to find you have left your tackle box / bag at home 19. got a plastic bag around the motor 20. lost and anchor (or two) 21. snapped a rod tip in the car door 22. dropped the bait knife overboard 23. putting a livie on a new trace / leader and throwing it overboard only to realise is not tied to the main line 24. lost a hat / cap / beanie whilst underway 25. lost your mobile phone overboard 26. put fish in the keeper net and forgot to tie the keeper net to the boat 27. (ungry warnie) ...........Getting to the ramp to realise the boat keys are at home on the bench.. 28. (ungry warnie) ........ Leaving a gaff in the rocket launcher and subsequently taking out 24 fluro's at the servo 29. (ungry warnie) ......... attempting to put 245 litres of petrol in the fuel tank (same servo may i add) through the back rod holder not the fuel filler cap..... 30. Hey tan 8-15kg Wilson Live Fibre Texalium I have a few. If you find better for around that price let me know!! Seriously very tough rod with a sensitive tip. Great for big jewies and kingies 6500 very balanced on the outfit as well May be a bit more than $250 but well worth it cheers inhlanzi

They are a fantastic fishing platform. I have a Boston Whaler an love it. Mine is 22 years old and is still going strong. The Boston Outrages are a fantastic option ( 19 to 32 foot ). With the AUD this strong you may get one at a reasonable price. Have you looked at the Noble Centre cab? This gives the best of both worlds. Walk around and cover. Only downside for me is the weather thing. Long jewie sessions and overnighters on a centre console are not that comfortable. Take up Andyloops on his offer and you will see how good they are. cheers inhlanzi
