Currently sitting by the water at Lake Eildon in Victoria. No rain but the wind has been blowing hard all yesterday and still up this morning.

Had some small redfin follow my plastics but not big enough to hook up.

Hopefully they close the border so you can't get back to take my fish.😂🤣

  3. My approach in winter would be get up in the morning(2pm roughly),look out the window and decide from there.

Ps. I'll walk past boat like I do and that's as far as I get.

    Did I mention I'm hopeless?

    Pardon me of I didn't.

  4. My son drew me one similar to that when he was a little tacker except his drawing of me had empty hooks and he wrote on it you're a crap fisherman daddy.😂

He knew even at 6 yrs old.

Good stuff when your kids do stuff like that.Priceless.

Yup and think of the chemicals they pump into chickens to make them grow faster and lay more eggs !
Sad fact of life is we live with the sins of our predecessors and they can’t be fixed but we can make sure we don’t follow their mistakes .

You never know what tomorrow’s tide will bring so fish the tide you have !

Amen to that. You don't get this athletic, lean, fabulous 120kg body Fab 1 has by eating lettuce.

I certainly didn't get it by eating keeper fish.😂🤣

I ate one last weekend. That's probably my monthly quota (because it was a good bream, split between four people).

You'll notice you can eat quite a lot of kingies/luderick/flounder/flathead and a HEAP of jackets, but not much bream, mullet etc. I think it might be correlated with how fast they grow. Table below from Fishing in Sydney Harbour (nsw.gov.au) .

Remind me to reject an offer to come to your place for a feed of bream.I'd starve!!!

I was heading south in my van, but that has been delayed, so I headed out early to Gunnamatta Bay. May as well wet a line rather than be sitting at home.

Fished on the edge of the sandbank into the deeper water. Pulled up several yakkas and cut them into strip baits, which produced a few fish. The water colour is tea tree brown like a fresh water river, so that I could see down a couple of feet, so further up river will be a solid brown colour.

I pulled out 2 tailor, mid 30's, a salmon near 50cm and dropped another at the boat, and 3 kingies, the biggest nearing 60cm. Most fish on the handline, with one of the kingies burning a cut through a finger.

I let the baits drop to the bottom, but nothing there. A couple of tailor better than nothing. Did not bother with a photo.

    Good effort as usual mate.

My boat will probably forget how to float at this rate! Glad you got your fix and some fillets!

Mines been stuck to the trailer since before Covid.Good thing with the high fuel prices that tank of fuel is lasting me ages.🤣😂

I was going to try further up, but thought Gunnamatta would be a little bit clearer. Some fun with the kingies and salmon, but a 1cm cut through the index finger from a kingie. A short time later, a salmon run the line through the same cut. I let the line go, but the salmon was still hooked up, so had to take a bit longer to get him in.

On your way down the coast pass by my place.

I have a few bags of rapid set so we don't have to hear you whinge about a nick on the finger ever again.

While your at it I have some really heavy chain that I'd like you to wrap around yourself and jump off your boat Into the middle of the port to test if it sinks ok.

I'm hoping after thay their will be some fish left for me.😂

Next time they throw the rubbish out the window, just pick it up and trow it back in their window? See how they like it?

on a serrious note, why dont you video it and send it to crime stoppers for illegal dumping?

If there wasn't a sign there, once or twice is fair enough but continously doing it, bit stupid. Why dont people put rubbish in their own bin? Ive had people putting used diapers in my bin and stinking out the whole street, and of course they didnt even put the diaper in a bag so my bin needed to be cleaned.

Find out who put the nappies in your bin and then go and pour stinky/rotten bait juice down their air vents in their car.If their car has hub caps stinky bait behind the hub caps works a treat I'm told.😉😉

There is dozens of knots, but I reckon the plain old Uni Knot is as good as any, easy to tie, can be used to join line together, or even rope. Many years ago I did some scientific testing (at work) of line and knots, and decent quality line, with a Uni Knot just about won every test when it came to joins, hooks and consistent tests. Like all knots, some care when pulling tight (and some spit or other lubricant) will increase a knots strength considerably.

I like uni, locked blood knot.Using these 2 knots I've never had one let go on the bread and butter when I'm fortunate enough to catch them.I tie excellent knots and know many both in rope, line, fencing wire, etc.

Wish my fishing knowledge was as good or reading my sounder as thats what let's me down.

  13.  What's the purpose of different hook eye offsets?Turned out/in/in line?

I know that say turned out apparently is better for snelling (I've never snelled a hook in my life) even though I know how, but turned in?

Some knots suit better?Better line of pull?

Like to hear people's thoughs on everything hooks please.

2knots i use is uni, improved clinch with mono.I don't use or have braid.

    Cheers.

    Stay safe and dry everyone.

I've caught plenty of jew on mono, as back when I fished hard for them braid didn't exist. Not mono straight through though, as I always used a leader/trace of some sort.

Off the rocks and breakwalls I always used live tailor for bait (before there was a size limit) under a bobby cork with 50lb leader. Same 50lb off the beach but with a running paternoster rig and tailor slabs or squid heads.

With the stretch in mono you always had to strike hard to ensure you set the hook.

What leader material did you use back then?

Just on the dumped lounge I mentioned earlier, mid last year, some low life dumped an old 3 piece lounge across the road, I called council and they said they would send someone out, a few days later a ranger type guy turned up a "looked" at it, then left, after a couple of weeks I contacted council again, and got the "I don't know" treatment, I said to the person I have a Ute, the old lounge is an eye sore and I will take it to the dump, but I will not pay to dump it! I loaded the old lounge in my Ute, got the the weigh bridge at the dump and told the guy the story, he told me that he can't help me, because people try all sorts of tricks to dump stuff for free, so here I am, now the proud owner of an off lounge! Back home and I call council again to explain what had happened, no one there remembers me talking to them, so I said I will just put it back across the road, the council guy said that he hopes no one sees me "dumping" the lounge, because I would be fined.......great, now I am in real deep, I have a lounge on the back and will have to pay to dump it. Next day some council guys were doing some gardening and I told them the full story, luckily they said they had seen the lounge there a few days ago and they took it off my Ute for me! Never pays to do the right thing does it?

Rule #1 Always get the full name and contact # of the people you speak to and write down a day and a time.

Council and Councillors are as useless as you know what.

This is one case where you being a good Samaritan nearly cost you.

People are struggling up to their necks in bills, cost of living, etc. They don't have $370 to dump rubbish.

The Bush around here is disgusting and I blame the scumbags and councils for charging way too much for those people that do want to try to do the right thing and dump legally.

The council can do nothing unless you have footage of them dumping it or evidence in the bags that can tie them to the rubbish -

All they have left our is delivering the suspect to them on a silver platter.Yes, I know all the b.s. my father inlaw is/was a ranger.

  17. This sort of thing has been happening since god was a boy mate as you know.

The only thing I can guarantee you will change is....IT WILL GET WORSE WITH THE AMOUNT OF SCUMBAGS,LOWLIFES,POPULATION GROWTH ,PRICE HIKES AT TIPS,ETC,ETC.

As for your question on what you should do...the best answer anyone can give you is do what you think is right and makes you feel better mate.

I live in Campbelltown(We breed and feed scumbags like that). In the 40 odd years I've lived here I've learn't these people only understand one language if it affects me .If it doesn't it's not my problem as I can't protect the world only me and my family.

Like I said do what's best for you.

These types of people you could offer them free tipping 365days a year, surround them with 6,000 bins 24/7 and nothing will change.
